Chapter 93

Alois glanced down at Cecil, studying him intently. It made Cecil's heart slow down, certain that Alois would call him out for having a couple of his shirts on his arm.

Alois frowned, reaching out hesitantly like he expected Cecil to refuse him. "Were you crying?"

Cecil's eyes widened again, his pupils shaking as Alois reached out a hand to brush his cheek, he had totally forgotten that he had been crying. He crudely wiped at his eyes with his free hand which was a mistake because it made him tear up again.

'Why was Alois always so nice to him? They were of vastly different social standing.'

While Alois was literally higher ranked than most nobles, Cecil was merely an imposter. He hadn't even been born into a wealthy family and was instead picked off the streets by an ambitious businessman who was yet to have a child and saw potential in him.
