Chapter One

It was lunch time at school, but I had my head down on a desk in an empty class. My last class, which was after lunch, was swimming but I never participated. My head was pounding against my skull and I felt like I was going to be sick. When I heard footsteps, I looked up to see my best friend.

"Hey, sleepyhead. I thought I'd find you here." Jason smiled. He had deeply tanned looking skin and long black hair. He was also very muscular with loads of tattoos on his arms and collarbone. His eyes were emerald green, but sometimes they looked like melted gold.

"Hey." I squinted at the lights above us.

"I came with a gift in hopes you feel better." he swung his bag around in front of him and opened it. First, he pulled out a bottle of water then a small bottle of Tylenol and finally a box of Russel Stover chocolates.

"Oh my goodness, I love you." I opened the Tylenol, pulled one out, and took it with water. "You're a life saver."

"I aim to please." he sat in the desk in front of me. Our school desks were welded to the chairs because people kept leaning back and falling. "What are you planning to do for the next class?" Jason and I shared 3 of our 4 classes and unlike me, he enjoyed swimming.

"Probably just reading like always." I shrugged, opening the chocolate box. "Or watching you splash around." He raised a dark eyebrow, his emerald green eyes filling with wonder. My face suddenly grew hot as I realized I just told him I watched him swim half naked.

"I'll be reading, yeah." I looked down at the chocolate box. "It's an amazing book, too."

"The one you've been reading for two weeks?" He smirked. His teeth were so perfect it made me jealous.

"I've been...distracted." I looked up at him. "Hey! It hasn't been two weeks!" He just laughed and shook his head then pulled his black hair into a messy bun.

"It's been a while." The bell rang, causing me to jump at the sudden noise. "Time to go to class." We got up and shoved our things into our bags then headed down the hall.
