Chapter 16 - How can I get water?

After posting the second video, I left the house to supervise the goblins' work. They were still cutting trees. They had made good progress, but if I had helped them, the work would have been almost finished.

I should help them soon.

"Hey, old goblin, let's head to the residential district. The goblins have already started building the houses, right?"

"From what I've been told, the house construction hasn't started yet. They're still assigning the land for the houses."

"That's right, I forgot about that detail. The goblins can build big houses; I don't mind. You can handle that."

"It's not necessary. We usually live with little space, so it's fine. Besides, we don't have many residents."

"But the number of goblins and other monsters will grow, so make sure to build as many houses as possible."

"But Mark, there's a problem."

"Hm?"

"The residential district is far from here. It's hard to transport all the materials. This will delay the construction."

"That's true, all the bricks and materials are here."

I looked over at where I'd placed all the materials. There was a massive pile of bricks, a mountain of cement bags, a mound of sand, a pile of stones, and so on.

I should have bought these materials while I was in the residential district.

"Don't worry, I'll take care of it."

I started buying a bunch of wheelbarrows. When the goblin chief saw them, he sighed in admiration. He grabbed one and began pushing it. "Oh, this is great, this will make the job much easier."

"It might be a bit difficult to push this over the dirt, but I'll start working on the road soon."

"Are you planning to do that alone?"

"Of course not, you guys will help me."

"I see."

"Want to come with me to the residential district to check on the progress? I also need to get a better sense of the space we have to build. I didn't take a good look last time."

"Sure."

"But before that..."

I walked over to the goblins cutting trees. I shouted, "Stop cutting trees and start moving the construction materials to the residential district!"

"What? We still have a lot of work to do."

"Forget about that, I'll take care of it later. If I leave you guys to do this, it'll take months to finish cutting all the trees. Focus on moving the materials!"

"Got it!" the goblins replied in unison. They had gotten used to following orders.

As soon as I gave the command, I transformed into a small dragon (Wyvern). "Hey, old man, hop on my back, we're heading to the residential district."

"What?"

"Hurry up, I'm losing patience."

The goblin chief reluctantly climbed onto my back.

"Hold on tight," I said before flapping my wings. The goblin chief continued shouting in panic as we flew high speed toward the residential district.

A few days had passed since construction of the residential district had started. I didn't help with the building, but the goblins had already made significant progress, having built three large houses.

They constructed the walls with bricks and used wood from the trees we cut down for the roofs.

Speaking of which, I used my dragon form to cut all the necessary trees. I had created such a large pile of wood that it turned into a mountain. This wood mountain was outside the city and could be seen from kilometers away.

I hope it can't be seen from Dwargon. But I'll take care of that soon and reduce its size. We'll still need a lot of wood.

In addition to building three houses in the residential district, the road leading there also started to take shape. I made large rectangular concrete blocks for the road using materials I bought and a large form I created.

Only a little of the road had been completed.

"I need to take care of the water supply soon. I think the best solution is to create wells. There's no large river nearby to pull water from."

Ideally, I would buy a machine to dig a hole down to the water table, but it's too expensive—thousands of points—and impossible to buy. "I'll have to dig the hole myself."

"After I finish the wells, I should focus on building more houses and then start constructing the wall around the city."

Better to take it one step at a time.

"Chief, isn't the hole I've dug big enough?" Then, Ranga entered the meeting room, where the map was spread out on the table. He was covered in dirt and visibly tired.

"I told you I want a big lake. This isn't enough."

"I'm sure it's plenty. I made it even deeper."

I went outside with Ranga to inspect the artificial lake. Indeed, he had dug a lot. The lake was now nearly three times the size of my house and about 3 to 4 meters deep.

It could be more profound, but it's good enough.

I looked at it and thought.

"Wouldn't it be better to take advantage of this and dig a well here?"

"A well?"

"Yes, we need a natural water source. Wouldn't this place be good enough?"

"You're not going to make me work more, are you?"

"I'll take care of it myself."

"Thank God, I'm so tired." Ranga lay down on the ground.

But first, how do I do this?

Is just digging a well enough? It needs enough pressure to push the water up and fill the artificial lake.

That won't work.

Should I dig a well somewhere else and let the residents use buckets to fetch water? It's a good temporary option, but I wanted plumbing on all the houses. I installed plumbing in my new home, but the water comes from the tank.

I need to make an automatic well or something like that.

"I got it. Aren't there water pumps that suck up water? I think I can use that. Perfect."

Time to create the city's water "generation" system.
