"I fight so that no one has to cry the tears I cried." - Eren Yeager (Attack on Titan)
After agreeing to live with Izuku, Maki was formally introduced to Kaina. The encounter allowed Maki to understand Kaina better, shedding light on the reasons behind Kaina's actions and the pain that had molded her into the person she was. Despite the initial shock of their plans for revenge, Maki couldn't ignore the deep scars that united the three of them—each a victim of circumstances beyond their control.
Izuku and Kaina opened up about the things they had done and the path they were planning to take moving forward. The weight of their collective suffering became more evident with each revelation, and Maki found herself grappling with conflicting emotions.
She wrestled with the concept of revenge, an idea that felt foreign and uncomfortable. An idea she wished to have but didn't dare to execute. However, Izuku took the time to explain the reasoning behind their choices patiently.
He reminded her of the systemic oppression they had all faced—born quirkless or with a villainous quirk, condemned for factors they had no control over. Kaina's transformation into a villain was especially touching; she had been pushed to question her superiors, only to find herself labeled a criminal.
The shared experiences of prejudice and injustice formed a common thread binding their stories together. Maki began to see that their actions, though extreme, were born out of desperation to reclaim what was rightfully theirs, equality without any discrimination and respect in a world that had often denied them both.
The lines between right and wrong blurred, and Maki grappled with the moral complexity of their journey, however as she recounted the last 14 years she spent, devoid of a single moment of love, kindness, respect, care, everything a kid would need to properly grow up, along with the fact that she was punished for something she had no control over, people ostracising her, beating her, punishing her for something she didn't even do or had control over, treating her as if a plague, beating her, not caring to see that the person they are cursing and punishing is hardly a 14-year-old kid, who doesn't even know what her mistake was to be treated like this,
A kid who was forced to mature early, as all she was met with was harshness, the world was a really harsh place for her, not caring that the person facing this is all but a 14 year old kid, not caring if she will survive or not, infact she could feel, the people around her actually deep down wanted her to die.
Then there was yesterday when she met with Izuku and Kaina, who both gave her love, care, kindness, respect, friends, everything she ever dreamed of, everything which she ever craved.
A hope which was reignited by them, then she found out that they had also gone through similar things, where life wasn't so kind to them, and they decided to fight back, take what's rightfully theirs, even if it means by force, she realized there were more similarities between them then she thought off, and they were ready to do what it takes to get what they want, yet here she was just accepting punishment for something she didn't do, and was also ready to die if that's what it takes to end the misery.
Yet Izuku didn't leave her, he listened to her, her opinions mattered, she felt heard, and Izuku made her understand where he was coming from, and subconsciously she just wanted to do whatever it took to stay with these people, deep down she wanted to make this world a better place, where no other maki has to suffer for something she didn't do, yet she lacked the means and courage to do it, yet now with Izuku and Kaina, she feels she can do it, she isn't alone, she now has people who care for her.
As a wise man once said, "Those who go through pain, don't want others to go through it, as they know how painful it is,"
She was completely overwhelmed by all these thoughts as she had made a subconscious decision to follow them, not as a henchman, but as a partner, walking side by side with them.
Izuku's plea for understanding resonated deeply with Maki, urging her to reconsider her view on the revenge they sought, and she understood everything completely, it wasn't that they were doing bad things, but rather they were doing necessary things, necessary for a better tomorrow, things others wouldn't.
Despite her initial reservations, Maki felt a growing sense of agreement with Izuku and Kaina. Her subconscious convinced the conscious. The recognition that they were all survivors of a flawed system fostered a newfound connection. The weight of their collective struggles began to overshadow the discomfort Maki felt toward revenge.
Now she wanted to have revenge as well, as till now she thought that what she went through was her fault, but not now, now she realized, what she went through was something totally out of her control, something she shouldn't have suffered for, it filled a rage in her, rage to get revenge, get back at all the people that made her suffer, she was so flared up that she actually stood up and was about to run out to get her revenge here and now.
Izuku held her by the hem of her shirt as he asked, "Where are you going?"
Maki just said, "To get my revenge, I won't let them go, I want to give them hell,"
Izuku sighed as he said, "And how are you planning to do so, did you forget that you were thrashed out of your house just a few hours ago, it hasn't been even 24 hours since you left, do you think you can actually beat someone who is stronger than you, older than you, has been beating you for years, when you haven't trained your body, your quirk, you are malnourished, don't have enough strength to even land a single hit, if you use your quirk recklessly, you would render useless in just a few minutes, you won't even be able to stand against them a single minute, and most importantly you aren't in Kyoto but 100s of km away from there in Shizuoka,
Listening to this Maki stopped as she said, "Ehh, how did we come to Shizuoka, so fast?"
"I used my quirk, most importantly, calm down, I'll give you a chance to get your revenge, we all here have our revenge pending, before you jump into action, atleast gain strength, you are totally malnourished, learn how to fight, how to use your quirk, get the strength to stand up against people who have made you suffer.
As they planned their next steps, Maki found herself drawn to their cause, not out of a desire for fast revenge, but a rather slow one, where the people who made her suffer get tormented for everything they made her suffer. Her journey with Izuku and Kaina became more than a quest for retribution; it transformed into a mission to challenge the very foundations of a society that had pushed them to the brink and get the things that they deserved.
"Then, let's start your training first," said Izuku as Kaina also nodded.
