Andrea sat down at her desk and rubbed her eyes. As much as she hoped that she might be able to persuade Madison that Kyle hadn't cooked her breakfast, she had to accept that unless she was going to lie, that was basically impossible.
She gestured for Madison to sit down as well so they would be at least approximately the same eyeline. She reached out and took Madison's hands and tried to sound as earnest and convincing as possible.
"Madison–" she began.
"So did you two spend last night 'examining each other's briefs'?" Madison interrupted. "Was it–"
"Madison! Shhh!" Andrea exclaimed. She took a deep breath and started again.
"Madison, I'm going to be straight with you, okay? Kyle is my client, you were right about that much. But we haven't slept together!" she added hurriedly. "He was at my apartment this morning, and he did cook me breakfast. He came over to talk to me about the case."
