Home Under Attack

John awoke, only to see slivers of light that waved from underneath the door. Sean and Greag were out in the hallway talking and laughing. John heard a random heavy breathing noise next to him, being curious he turned his head and looked over to see what it was. He noticed that the scientist girl was laying in the bed next to him, cuddled up in the fetal position with her back facing him. John was instantly startled and went to wake her up, but realized she seemed to be at peace for once.

He laid there for a moment to recollect everything. Nothing came to him in his memory, he finally rolled over to her, grabbed her shoulder and shook her gently to wake her. She awoke in a frantic jump while covering herself with the blankets. John sat up and looked downward, ashamed of himself, he then looked to her.

"Ok please tell me if we did anything last night. I don't remember anything. Did we fuck?"

She laid there staring at him and smiled, she placed her hand on the side of his face and uttered.

"It's ok."

She leaped out of bed, while John stared at her sexy naked body through the darkness. John reached over and turned the light on that was next to the bed, looked back over to her and was now really enamored by her body. She began putting on her red lace panties, John took notice of her tattoo of a lantern on her back. John aroused, hoisted himself up and walked up behind her, put his arms on her sides and began sensually kissing upon her neck. She leaned her head back from inclination and as he finished kissing she turned to him, gazing in his eyes and said.

"Thank you. But we have work to do. Last night was the best night of my life."

John looked at her in confusion and asked.

"Ok so we did have sex?"

She smiled once more, turned back around, her hair swayed in the air. She grabbed a hold of her bra, her shirt and her pants that were on the ground next to the bed, and walked to the small bathroom that was connected to his room and closed the door behind herself.

John turned to the side of the bed, with his legs leaning over, bent. He sat there thinking to himself of what could've happened last night. Finally snapping out of it, he stood up fully erect and began to get dressed. As he was putting his armor plates on, the girl walked back in, wearing a black and white suit. John noticed and stared at her, enamored by her suave and sexy body and looks. She grew red as she noticed that he was checking her out.

"Ok let's go"

She stated quietly and shyly. As she went for the door, John hurdled to her and grabbed a hold of her arm, and pulled her in close.

"So you never answered, did we have sex?"

She looked at him with a glimmer in her eyes, a smile gleamed across her face, leaned in and gave him a kiss. She turned around, opened the door and walked through. She went down the hallway, past Sean and Greag as they were pretending to box each other by their rooms.

They peered at her as she passed, watching her body sway and then looked over to John.

"Oh shit. Hahaha now that's my man. Like Rex said, we know nothing."

Sean said with laughter as he walked close to John's room. Greag while walking behind him continued.

"All I can say is...damn."

John chuckled up and started to walk out of his room and down the hallway past them with a grin on his face. Sean and Greag looked at each other, smiled and ran to catch up with John. Making sure to pound on Rex's door and shout out for him to hurry as they passed by. Rex came running out, while he struggled to throw his chest piece on, and ran over to catch up.

As they entered the end of the hallway, into the room with all the other scientists, Sean asked.

"So what are we supposed to do now? Like do we head home orrrrr?"

John answered him back as he was walking.

"I honestly have no clue. I'm about to ask and find out."

John walked up to the girl scientist and asked.

"Ok first things first. What's your name? I never asked. Also has command radioed for our next task?"

She turned around and looked at him, walked over, grabbed his arm and pulled his wrist piece out from its socket. She began to type something upon it while occasionally moving her eyes up to see him. She redocked the tablet device in the socket, a click as it locked into place. She turned back around and walked away to a screen that was surrounded by several other scientists.

John looked down at the device to see what she had typed and saw that it read "Darla" and had all of her contact information saved on his device. He giggled and grew a huge smile across his face. He also took notice that his device had a message that came from command. He clicked on the message icon, where it then displayed a message for him to put his helmet on and radio to command.

John looked up to Greag and broadcasted.

"I guess command sent a message saying to contact them. Guess they knew we were gonna ask what's next."

Greag shrugged his shoulders back to him with confusion upon his face. John turned his helmet forward and placed it upon his head. Pressed the button on the side and radioed to command. Within seconds command came on, but John could only hear sounds of frantic chatter and gunfire in the background. John startled and started to yell.

"What's going on? Hey, someone answer."

Still listening and heard more shouting and gunfire. Finally someone came on that could be legible.

"John. John this is command. Do you read me? John picked up now. This is an emergency."

John responded as quickly as he possibly could.

"This is John. Hello, what's going on? Why is there gunfire going on?"

Command arose back.

"We need your help. We're under attack. They're at the base now. We need you guys back here ASAP. Take one of the aircrafts from the science base. Get back here ASAP. This is not a drill."

John heard as the gunfire was coming in louder and people were shouting in the background.

"Oh shit, they're overrunning us. Watch the doorways. They're getting in."

Suddenly static was blaring over the speaker set. John yelled back anxiously.

"Command. Command what's going on? Command do you read me."

At this point, several of the scientists were looking over to John as he was still yelling in his helmet. He looked up to see everyone looking in anxiousness, but he only heard the static come though.

Greag frantically asked.

"John what's the problem? What's going on?"

John pressed the button to end the signal, and then replied to Greag.

"We have a problem. They want us back now. They're under attack."

John turned to Darla and asked her, with impatience in his voice.

"Command is under attack and needs our help now. They said to grab an aircraft and get there ASAP. We don't have time to wait. Do you have an aircraft for us to take?"

Darla looked at him shocked, the other scientists were staring over by this point at the distress. Darla's face turned pale before she answered.

"We have some, but I think it would best if you took one of our prototypes. Might prove to make things easier."

John nodded his head in approval. She waved for them to follow her as she walked to the other end of the room to a small metal door, which appeared to be welded to the wall.

John and everyone stood there waiting and looking at one another, with confusion and struggle on their faces. Darla swiped a card on the card reader and typed in a key code on the keyboard that was next to it. Suddenly sparks started flashing where the welds were, burning the metal and liquefying it onto slags that poured onto the ground. As the red hot puddles of metal built up on the ground by the sides of the door a red light above the door started to flash. John stepped back a little, unknowing of what would happen. Finally the sparks stopped and the door began to release air. Cshhhhhhh clurchunk. Darla twisted a handle that was on the door a complete 180 degrees and pushed the door open.

John started to walk through the door, looked back at the door and what all just happened to it. Greag, Sean and Rex walked through and Darla walked through last. They noticed that they were inside a massive hangar, cars were parked against one wall football fields down. On the far end they saw a glimpse of aircrafts on pads. They looked up and saw that the ceiling had to be several hundred feet high, and several other aircraft were on pads up there. Sean started to slowly say with amazement.

"Ho-ly shit, this is fucking huge."

Darla was already up way ahead of them and was calling back to them to follow her. They ran to catch up to her. To be drastically stopped in front of a pad with nothing on it.

"Why are we stopping here? We need an aircraft."

John said out loud to Darla. Darla laughed and then answered.

"Here it is. You're looking at the newest prototype aircraft. You are having trouble seeing it because of its mirror stealth technology. It's actually reflecting the light around it so it appears invisible. And it's quite substantially faster and much more heavily armed than the other ships and planes we have."

John grew a huge smile across his face. He ran up to the ship like a little kid, while reaching his hand forward until he finally touched a hard surface in thin air. The sound of the metal on his gloves as they scraped against the shiny metal surface.

"Ok you guys. You heard the orders, let's go now."

Everyone ran up to the ship, while putting their helmets on. Searching around until they discovered the door hatch to get inside. Darla walked up to John with her hands clasped together and looking down, her face was beat red. John grabbed a hold of her hands, lifted her chin up word and reassuringly said.

"Hey thanks for everything. I have to go, but you and your crew need to stay safe. If you ever need anything just ask."

She lunged forward and wrapped her arms around him, giving him a hug while whispering to him through his helmet.

"Thank you, for everything. It means a lot. You don't understand your role in this all yet, but you are the key to it all."

She released and started to back away. John stood there staring at her as she shouted for him to go.

John turned around and loaded up into the ship, walked past his squad to the cockpit and sat down. As he strapped himself in, he looked down at all the control buttons, trying to interpret what button did what. Finally he noticed a button that read "start." He pressed it, a whining noise from both sides came up, and kept getting louder and louder. The sounds of a burner kicked in. John grabbed a hold of the joystick, and then looked down around at all the buttons on the dash. He was seeing buttons that read "fire up, fire down, pilot control, after burn, diagnostics, radio," and several others. He pressed the radio button and Darla came online.

"Ok John I knew you'd be confused a little, so I'm going to open the top hanger. All you need to do is press the fire up button, ride all the way up till you're safely out of the shaft and then press the button again to shut it off. The rest is like flying any other craft, just move your joystick forward. To warn you. It is fast."

John replied.

"Ok thanks."

Just as he was preparing, Darla came back on the radio.

"Hey John?"

John answered back as he was strapping in.

"Yes."

"Your girlfriend is lucky. I don't think she realizes just how lucky yet."

She replied. John froze up as she said this. Sean and Greag from in the passenger's area overheard the whole conversation, looked at each other while oohing for what they had heard.

John doesn't respond, he just stood there confused and looking around. Darla gave them the ok to go. John snapped out of shock and without hesitation, pressed the fire up button. The engines started whirring loudly, fire was burning from the engine exhausts and creating a gust of pressurized air. The ship started lifting up off of the ground, and then suddenly the thrust kicked in and leaped them up in the air. They went flying through a tunnel that headed upward. John and the guys were being forced down into their seats from the force. As John was able to see the light at the end of the tunnel, he prepared himself to press the button again. Finally they exited the opening of a large chimney looking tube, and John pressed the button for the thrust to stop them dead in the air. John pulled up the GPS coordinates on his wrist piece to get to the command zone and then tipped his joystick to the direct the screen read to go to. In an instant the craft started to move and pick up speed.

John looked down, and saw the tall buildings in the city as he flew overhead. Occasionally he would see a Kreole or a roller that was wandering throughout the streets. Within minutes they were past the city limits and over forested land. John peered down to the speed. He opened the cockpit door and shouted back.

"Wow this thing is really fast. Where going 1,200 miles per hour apparently."

Greag was cheering back. John looked down at his GPS to keep up with the distance. He laughed at the device, as he occasionally noticed that it gave them a straight path home.

Several hours went by and John decided to call back.

"We're almost home. Be ready for contact."

John was getting himself mentally prepared as he was able to see the mountain, which was surrounded by hundreds of the creatures outside of it. He slowed down, looking down at what all was going on, and taking in the situation. He saw tracer rounds flying through the air to the creatures, explosions partaking throughout the yards by the mountain side. Rollers moving throughout the fields, ripping through the ground, and smashing into soldiers. John shouted back to anyone that was listening.

"Ok I'm gonna get us in close. Use the guns to thin out the creatures then we'll go in by foot. Ready?"

They all confidently shouted back.

"Let's do this shit."

John got in over top the creatures, pressed the aim control button. A screen popped out which showed the ground with a crosshair reticle in the center. John flipped the fire safety off on the side of the joystick, pressed on an icon on the screen say read "Gatlin gun." He aimed at whatever creatures were closest to his reticule and pressed the trigger on the front of the joystick with his pointing finger. As he looked through the screen, he saw what looked like rocks being thrown out at high speed down to the ground. He began to move the joystick around to different creatures and saw as rollers were being ripped apart, as the bullets smashed down into them. Kreoles were attempting to dodge the hail of bullets that rained down upon them, but to no avail.

John depressed the trigger, pressed the icon that read "scud 24 missile." He thought to himself.

"Let's see what this does"

He aligned the hairs on some more incoming rollers, pressed the trigger button several times and watched as the rockets flew through the air down to them. Boom boom boom. One after another the rockets flew down, broke apart into several smaller bombs, and then exploded. Each flash sent out a massive shockwave. The craft struggled from stalling from each shockwave. John shouted back to his men from the cockpit.

"We're gonna get in close and land now. Let's get ready. There's still many creatures to go."

As everyone was getting stocked and ready to go, John landed the craft over to the side of the entrance safely in a bunch of trees. He shut off the craft, unbuckled himself and walked out of the cockpit. He grabbed a hold of a rifle, a pistol and his machete and walked over to the door. He went to open it, only to stop when he noticed a few Kreoles as they snuck by, unknowing of their presence behind them. John whispered back to his squad.

"The Kreoles are trying to flank. They don't see us. So we're going to pop out of here and flank them while we have the element of surprise."

John turned back around, grabbed the handle and in an instant, opened the hatch. He hopped down and ran to the creatures, firing at the Kreoles from behind. Everyone else was following behind him. Before the Kreoles got the chance to react, John's super speed got him up behind them, and he smashed the butt of his gun into the back of their skulls. One after another the Kreoles dropped down dead. They looked over to see the exit of the woods and bolt to it. At the end they had popped out a few hundred feet from the base opening. Smoke was rising from all over the area. They saw a greenish blue hazed mushroom cloud on the far side of the mountain and saw that the fields were covered in body's and remains of dead soldiers. Squads of soldiers were spread thinly throughout still trying to fight off the incoming creatures.

John shot out orders to his squad.

"Let's move out. Weapons free."

He started running forward into the battle. Within only seconds of running, the ground was trembling. John looked over to his left, and saw three Roller's that were coming their way. They all slid down to the ground, and kneeled. They had their guns pointed forward as they waited for the Roller's to get in close enough to them. Seeing that the Rollers were not stopping this time. John ordered his squad to throw grenades close to them, to force them from beneath the surface. They tossed one grenade after another. Boom boom boom. One of the Roller's stopped dead in the ground as the other two popped out from the ground. They came flying up in the air while quickly spinning forward, opened up the bodies from a ball and landed hard down onto the ground. As soon as they landed, bullets were already flying at them for John and his squad had already opened up and started to fire their guns at them. With only a few rounds, the first armadillo looking creature dropped and the last followed afterwards. John stood back up, and started to sprint. His squad picked up on this and followed behind him. They ran through tall yellowish grass, shooting at any incoming creatures, watching as they died from bullets flying through their skulls. Sean had to keep up on reloading his rifle, as Rex from behind was covering him. The wind was blowing, and the grass moved in waves.

They finally reached the entrance of the base, where they were greeted by a general and several soldiers.

"Where the hell have you been? We've been under attack all night and day."

The general led John and his squad to an armored command station outside of the base opening, as gunfire and explosions were occurring outside. The general stopped, turned to John and began shouting over the loud noise.

"These fucking things have been at us all night. They're slaughtering my men, and one of the nuke explosion things went off on the other side of the mountain. Worst part about it is we've lost a few civilians. We need help and no one except you guys have responded to our distress calls. So do whatever you can."

The general pulled out a pad thing and showed them a picture of the terrain with red and green dots spread throughout and continued shouting over the loud gunfire.

"Currently here's where all the creatures are at. They're trying to spread us out thin, so they can come at us in a frontal attack. We need you guys to stop that from happening. You guys are the ranking officers below me now. Do what you have to. I'm going to try to fortify the sides and flanks. Alright carry out soldiers."

John saluted him, waited for the solute back and then turned to his squad.

"Ok we're the ranking officers under the general now. We are ordered to hold the front and do whatever we have to. Let's carry out men."

The entire squad saluted him with respect, he saluted in return and walked past them, with his gun ready in hand.
