As I take slow, hesitant steps forward, it felt as if I'm walking on a ground full of needles. The floor is painfully cold, but that feeling slipped past my mind that I did not bother wearing my slippers that I passed by. Instead, I kept my attention forward, where Rhys awaited me from the other side.

The time seems to be going in slow motion as I walked, and seven steps broke into tiny steps, which made the door feel too far from my reach.

A smarter part of me is enraged, telling me to stop this instant, but I can't fathom the powerful attraction that I feel toward his voice. He sounds convincing with his emotion and desperation. That call from him is enough to pull me closer by force, and my legs that are out of control.

When I arrived facing the red curtains that are my only hope of protection, I lift both my hands, grasping them. I feel the chunkiness and the weight of the shade before slowly tugging on them and pulling.
