Beast Driven System

The modern age of human society had undergone an evolution that changed it forever. Mana had arrived on Earth, and with it, came a meteor shower that threatened to reduce humanity to nothing but rubble and debris. Earth's governments were thrown into chaos because of this, and many military units were deployed to protect the masses from what they could only assume to be the end of the world. Using the most advanced arsenal possessed by the various world military governments, the adverse effects of the meteor shower had been controlled to an incredible degree, protecting most of Earth's inhabitants from utter annihilation. There were countries that were destroyed, leaderships and citizens wiped from the face of the Earth. Reconstruction had to be done to bring the demolished landscapes back to their former glory. It seemed like everything had gone back to normal, however, that was far from the case. Months after the meteor shower incident, world renouned scientists dedicated their time to studying these strange crystalline meteorites. Years later, and something ground breaking had been discovered-abilities. These meteorites, they weren't actually meteorites, but crystals. Where they had come from was unknown and still being researched up till today. From the crystals came abilities that changed humanity forever. Those who could afford the crystals were fortuate enough to obtain strange powers from within. Fire, boulder, serpent, and many others. Many more years passed by, and more and more was being discovered about abilities and the crystals they came from. Everything seemed to be heading up after the phenomenon that nearly destroyed the Earth, but not everything was for the benefit of everyone. For many years, most were oblivious to the presence of abilities on Earth. It wasn't until an alien invasion occoured, that the information on abilities was made public. Strong ability users were needed to defend Earth against the Shales. The government, private and public corporations, and many others, they were all monetizing whatever crystals they could get their hands on, using it as a means of earning revenye from the populace. Those who were rich enough to purchase ability crystals could become ability users, while those who couldn't would simply remain as regular humans. Many rich families in the new world were able to obtain strong abilities for themselves and their children; the ones who would continue their lineage and glory once their parents are no more. In order to learn how to defend humanity from the invasion of the aliens, people from the ages of 16 were ordered to attend a military academy by the decree of the federal government of their respective countries. Failure to abide by this law was punishable by jail time. Kayden, a sixteen-year-old from a city known as Black Saber city. Having lost his parents at a very yoing age, he had to live with his single uncle and his cousin. Like many other teenagers his age, he desired to attend military school to learn how to fight against the Shales. However, being unable to afford an ability, his dreams of becoming powerful seemed like they would be crushed, but that all changed the day he had been given a system that allows him to unlock monsters by completing quests. On his path to evolve, he must face multiple challenges, complete quests and go on missions just to grow in strength. For in the current world, only the strong are regarded, while the weak are cast aside and forgotten. That was the general rule, the rule that governed everything that happened. From a crystal, came a power that changed his life. Now, he must do whatever it takes to save the people he loves and cares about. He must make sure that he doesn't loose the people he cares about once more.

The Shade

Seeing Kayla standing outside of his dorm room, his mind quickly went back to the conversation they had had that day. He remembered that she had told him about some conspiracy that was currently happening around the school, and about how it involved the first and second year students as well. Seeing her here, he could only guess that she perhaps wanting to speak to him more about that.

"Well, will you look at that. It seems like wolf boy also has a way with the ladies," Paul said, resting his face on his palm as a smirk broke out on his face.

"Will you shut... You know what, just forget it. You're too dumb to understand," Kayden said, slamming the door behind himself the second later. Meanwhile, all he could hear was the frantic laughter coming from inside the dorm room.

"Ignore him," Kayden said, with an uncomfortable look on his face.

Kayla couldn't seem to care less about whatever was going on, as she quickly got down to the point as to why she had arrived here in the first place.

"As I've already told you, there is a conspiracy going on at the academy. However, so far, we did not have a plan on what to do about it, until tonight. I think I know how we will be able to gain more information about the secret activities taking place. Do you know Kumon, the student with the wrist tattoos?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.

Scratching his head, Kayden was trying to think of any student named Kumon, or even someone having wrist tattoos. In fact, he thought that perhaps having tattoos as a student was strictly prohibited by the academy, until he had heard of this student named Kumon.

"Nope, never heard of him," he eventually replied, shaking his head.

"Sigh... well, in that case, Kumon Lee is a first year student who has a dysfunctional ability. It is a mystery class ability that allows him to influence the effectiveness of other ability users," she continued.

"Mystery class? Then in that case, why isn't he in the mystery class division?" Kayden asked, his interest piqued. He was shocked to hear that there was another first year student at the academy who has a mystery class ability. However, he was also confused as to why this student wasn't in the mystery class division.

"Even I don't know the reason for that. To be honest with you, no one really knows why he isn't in the mystery class division. Currently, he is in the fire class division with the other fire ability users. Some say that it's because he has two abilities, and that he doesn't want to go through the stress of learning both at the same time like that student with the ability that glitches from one class to another," she explained further.

"So, how will he help us is learning more about this secret group?" Kayden asked.

"I assume that he may be in cahoots with the group in the first place. However, he seems more like a loose cannon, someone who isn't quite serious about their goal like they are. I'm thinking that we could perhaps gain some vital info out of him if we press him for answers."

"Again, how does this all involve me? From the sound of it, it seems like you're more than capable of handling this student on your own. He's what? Ranked sixth? You're the Titan one. You can basically make this student beg for mercy. Heck, you can even make me beg if you want to," Kayden said, waving his arms in the air.

"You're right. I can make you beg if I want to," Kayla said, her eyes glowing yellow. The temperature around her body had increased rapidly, causing Kayden to start sweating profusely. Then suddenly, she grabbed him by the neck, pulling his face closer to her, before whispering a few words in to his ear.

"I am stronger than you. I can make you beg for mercy whenever I want. And most importantly, I can break you. Remember this always," she said, before letting him go and cancelling her ability, returning the temperature around her back to normal.

Kayden gulped down in fright as he looked down at her, shaking his head up and down slowly. Although he didn't like the way he was currently being treated, he knew that there wasn't much he could do about it for now. While he would continue being obedient to her, he would just have to continue to grow his strength until he is strong enough to defeat her, ultimately becoming the new Titan one of the first year students. However, he wasn't doing it for rank alone at the end of the day.

"Tomorrow, we will go and get Kumon to admit whatever it is he knows about the group, and you will do exactly as I say," she declared, before walking away.

Kayden had suddenly let out a heavy breath. He didn't even know that he had been holding his breath all that time. However, now that she was away, he began raining curses on her, wishing that her parents never had her in the first place.

Meanwhile, opening his dorm room, he could see Paul staring straight at him, with a wide grin on his face.

"So, did you guys kiss?" he asked out of the blue.

"Shut up," Kayden replied, before walking over to his bed.

"You know, I have quite a bit of experience with dealing with ladies as well. If you'd like, then maybe I can give you a few pointers that'll sure make you a master of the game," he replied, grinning from ear to ear. "They don't call me the god of women for nothing," he said, imagining a bunch of women swooning all over him.

"Ugh... such a perv," Kayden whispered under his breath, before eventually falling asleep.

"Huh? You said something?" Paul asked, raising an eyebrow.

The next day, Kayden was doing his best to go about the day as usual. However, he couldn't stop thinking about what Kayla had told him the other night. Today, she and him were meant to get information out of a student named Kumon. But, today was also the day that he would be having his match with Paul as well.

Later after the normal classes, Kayla had met up with him in the hallway while he was on his way to the canteen to have breakfast. She told him that now was the time for them to get to Kumon since he was also still on his way to the canteen. However, they would have to move fast before their actions become far too suspecious to the other students.

'Man, when did my life become like this?' Kayden thought to himself. He remembered the times when it would just be him and his friends. They would spend the day talking about a whole bunch of useless stuff while not having a single care in the world. Ever since the incident with Josh and Steve, his friends had gotten distant from him, not talking with him like they usually would in the past. They don't even eat at the same table anymore.

On their way to the canteen, they had eventually stumbled across the student they were looking for, who was just about to make it into the canteen. Whispering a couple words in to his ear, the latter's eye went wide from fright. He was no longer reluctant to move along with them to a separate room in the building.

They had made it back to the classroom, and locking the door behind herself, her minions, who had vowed to do whatever she wished, had got to work with silencing the room, and creating the perfect environment to further compel Kumon to tell them whatever it was that they needed to know.

"Let me ask you something," Kayla said, sitting in front of him. Kumon himself was sitted as well, sweating profusely as his eyes darted from one student to the other. As his eyes fell on Kayden, the teenager could only nod in response, telling him that if he simply did as told, that he wouldn't get hurt.

'This is the student I plan to defeat... How scary,' Kumon thought, struggling to maintain eye contact with her.

"Are you involved with a group known as the Shade?" she asked.

'The Shade. So that's the name of the group she's after. But wait, how does she know the name of the group? Has she been doing further research all this time and ended up finding this out?' Kayden thought to himself.

The Shade is the name of the group that they were after. However, Kayden and Kayla had no idea just what they were getting themselves into, as Kumon eventually opened his mouth to reply to her question.

"I... am not," he said, shaking his head profusely.

"Wrong answer," Kayla said, and the next second, Kumon had been electrocuted.
