Beast Driven System

The modern age of human society had undergone an evolution that changed it forever. Mana had arrived on Earth, and with it, came a meteor shower that threatened to reduce humanity to nothing but rubble and debris. Earth's governments were thrown into chaos because of this, and many military units were deployed to protect the masses from what they could only assume to be the end of the world. Using the most advanced arsenal possessed by the various world military governments, the adverse effects of the meteor shower had been controlled to an incredible degree, protecting most of Earth's inhabitants from utter annihilation. There were countries that were destroyed, leaderships and citizens wiped from the face of the Earth. Reconstruction had to be done to bring the demolished landscapes back to their former glory. It seemed like everything had gone back to normal, however, that was far from the case. Months after the meteor shower incident, world renouned scientists dedicated their time to studying these strange crystalline meteorites. Years later, and something ground breaking had been discovered-abilities. These meteorites, they weren't actually meteorites, but crystals. Where they had come from was unknown and still being researched up till today. From the crystals came abilities that changed humanity forever. Those who could afford the crystals were fortuate enough to obtain strange powers from within. Fire, boulder, serpent, and many others. Many more years passed by, and more and more was being discovered about abilities and the crystals they came from. Everything seemed to be heading up after the phenomenon that nearly destroyed the Earth, but not everything was for the benefit of everyone. For many years, most were oblivious to the presence of abilities on Earth. It wasn't until an alien invasion occoured, that the information on abilities was made public. Strong ability users were needed to defend Earth against the Shales. The government, private and public corporations, and many others, they were all monetizing whatever crystals they could get their hands on, using it as a means of earning revenye from the populace. Those who were rich enough to purchase ability crystals could become ability users, while those who couldn't would simply remain as regular humans. Many rich families in the new world were able to obtain strong abilities for themselves and their children; the ones who would continue their lineage and glory once their parents are no more. In order to learn how to defend humanity from the invasion of the aliens, people from the ages of 16 were ordered to attend a military academy by the decree of the federal government of their respective countries. Failure to abide by this law was punishable by jail time. Kayden, a sixteen-year-old from a city known as Black Saber city. Having lost his parents at a very yoing age, he had to live with his single uncle and his cousin. Like many other teenagers his age, he desired to attend military school to learn how to fight against the Shales. However, being unable to afford an ability, his dreams of becoming powerful seemed like they would be crushed, but that all changed the day he had been given a system that allows him to unlock monsters by completing quests. On his path to evolve, he must face multiple challenges, complete quests and go on missions just to grow in strength. For in the current world, only the strong are regarded, while the weak are cast aside and forgotten. That was the general rule, the rule that governed everything that happened. From a crystal, came a power that changed his life. Now, he must do whatever it takes to save the people he loves and cares about. The Truth?

Kayden, seeing everything that was going on, couldn't stop himself from shaking uncontrollably. He was currently witnessing Kayla, the strongest first year student at the academy, torment and terrorize this student named Kumon, who apparently knew a thing or two about this organization known as the Shade which was secretly operating at the academy.

Amongst all these things, he was wondering just what the goal of this organization was in the first place. For one, didn't everyone have the same natural enemy. Everyone was currently getting ready for another war with the Shales-one that would end up determining the fate of everyone on Earth.

Moreover, he had heard rumors back then of another society that wished to eradicate abilities in the world. Thinking about this, he couldn't help but shake his head. What sort of idiot would want to get rid of abilities, when it has been abilities that has helped humanity survive for this long?

"Tell me the truth!" Kayla screamed, her eyes glowing bright yellow in anger. It was clear that she wasn't playing around. She was about to order one of her minions to electrocute him once again, when Kumon suddenly opened his mouth, screaming at the top of his lungs for her to stop.

The last shock had put him through excess pain. Lightning was quite a powerful ability, as it is capable of putting one through intense pain. Kumon's appearance was disheveled and tattered. Black scorch marks were present on his skin and clothing, and his overall appearance was a lot darker than what it used to be.

"I will tell you what I know about the Shade," he said, breathing heavily.

Hearing this, Kayla's anger began to subside, as she nodded her head in approval. "Speak!" She ordered, looking him in the eyes.

"The Shade is a fast food chain I recently opened a couple months back. I didn't want to tell anyone about this because I didn't want anyone to get any funny ideas and choose to upstage me. Please! Don't tell anyone about this else I'll be put out of business!"

Suddenly, a loud slap sounded in the room, as Kumon's face was sent swinging to the side. Even Kayden had to cover his ears after hearing the loud spanking sound. His sensitive ears were able to pick up on the noise a lot better than everyone else in the room, causing him to squint his eyes shut.

Of course, Kayla had used a lot of her strength in that slap, which threatened to detach the latter's head from the rest of his body. Her hand print could be seen on the side of his cheek, shining bright red as Kumon looked to be in extreme pain from the strike.

"Do you think I'm stupid?! How dare you lie to me to my face?! I would've killed you if your parents weren't influential today!" She screamed at the top of her lungs, struggling to fight the urge to rip the student to pieces.

'Rich and powerful, huh?' Kayden thought, raising an eyebrow.

"Huh?! What do you mean?! I just told you everything! That's my biggest secret! The Shade is the name of the fast food chain I had opened! If you don't believe me, then you might as well kill me right now! It's clear that you aren't as bright as you look!" He yelled back, glaring daggers at her as the tears threatened to break out from his eyes.

"What the heck is going on here?" Kayden wondered, dumbfounded by the situation unraveling before him. The other students in the room seemed equally confused by the situation. At first, they were under the impression that they would at least gain some reasonable information from this student about the Shade. However, after listening to what he said to say, they were left speechless.

'A fast food chain? Seriously?' Kayden thought, staring at Kayla, who's anger was about to boil over. From where he stood, he could feel the heat of her power affecting him. He turned his head to glance at the other students, and they too looked quite worried, scared for what she may go ahead and do next. She was the most powerful among them all, and even if they band together, they weren't sure if they were capable of stopping her.

"A fast food chain? A fucking fast food chain?!" Suddenly, she had delivered another slap, this time, to the other cheek of the student. He yelled out in pains, the tears breaking out of his eyes as he begged for mercy.

"Kayla, I think we should leave. We've been here for a while already. We don't know when an instructor or someone else may decide to come in here, only to discover us and end up putting us under punishment," one if the students suddenly spoke out, gathering whatever bit of courage he could to speak out his mind. "Think, how do you expect us to learn more about the Shade if we're too busy going through punishment?"

Hearing this, Kayla had suddenly froze. She seemed to be thinking about what he had just said, then her eyes fell upon the student still seated at the chair. He wasn't strapped to it, or anything else like that. As a matter of fact, he was simply sitting down on the chair. He was just far too scared to get up or try anything that will bring him nothing but more pain in the current situation.

'This Shade thing. I wonder, if this guy knows nothing about them, but Kayla thinks he does, then there has to be a reason for that, right? I mean, would she just go ahead tormenting students just to get answers like Josh? I don't think she is that kind of person.

'Whatever she's doing, I think she must have gotten her information about the Shales from a reasonable source, at least. She must be quite sure that this Kumon guy knows about the Shade. Going out of her way to torment him like so, even putting herself and others at risk of being punished.

'For now, the best course of action would be to do as he says. It's only been a month since we joined the academy, anyway. She's gonna have plenty more chances in the future to find out whatever it is she needs to know. Hopefully, soon enough before these Shade individuals decide to do something,' Kayden thought to himself.

Heaving out a sigh, Kayla turned her attention back towards Kumon. "If you tell anyone about what happened today, then I'll willingly get in trouble with your family," she declared, her eyes glowing bright yellow.

"No problem! Besides, I don't want anyone to find out about this secret of mine!" Kumon shouted back, shaking his head.

"Again with the fast food chain shit?!" She yelled, about to deliver another slap, when suddenly, a hand had grabbed her wrist. Of course, she could have easily overpowered this person, she was more shocked by the fact that someone had dared to go against her in the first place.

"Didn't you hear what he said?" Kayden asked, glaring back at her. "We could get in trouble any second now. I don't know about you, but I have no plans of getting in trouble with the school authorities," he stated.

"Tch," she gritted her teeth, forcing her hand out of his grip. "Very well, then. No one say anything about what we have just discussed after Bara deactivates his ability," she ordered, turning towards everyone in the classroom. They all nodded their heads in agreement, and the next second, the sound cancelling ability had been deactivated, before they all left the room.

"Wait, what about Kumon? He looks pretty beaten up. How will they explain to others if they wondered what had taken place if they saw them all entering the canteen together?" He wondered, however, it was then that he could see Kumon walking out before the others towards the canteen. And not long after, Bara and the other students would leave as well.

This way, they would assume that they were the ones who had beaten up Kumon. It would seem more reasonable that way, since he was of a higher rank than them. Although he hadn't taken his rank, since he hadn't delivered the final blow, the others wouldn't think too much about him since they were aware of Kumon's strength.

'This has been quite an eventful morning,' Kayden thought, stepping into the canteen. He had gotten his breakfast, and sat on a table alone to enjoy his breakfast. His eyes would constantly glance at his old friends, who looked to be having a good time, chatting and having fun. He was beginning to miss the good old days.

"Hey, wolf boy," a voice said. Turning his head, his heart rate had suddenly sped up, as he could see Kayla, along with her minions, sitting down around the table to have their breakfast.

"Since you're involved in all of this, I think we should start spending more time together. You know, get you familiar with the gang," she said, taking a bite out of her sandwich.

'Great, and my suffering continues,' Kayden thought, staring down at his breakfast.
