Chapter 37: Plague Of Death III

...........

Until suddenly, there was darkness no more, only blinding brightness as something akin to a sun overshadowed the sky, and with that, two individuals showed themselves, the targets Silver marked in bold.

"Focus on the one to the right," Luscious instantly instructed as the awakener on the left looked very thin while the other was quite muscular with what appeared to be an armor of rocks around him.

Yet he still chose the one on the right for the simple reason that he looked like a muscle head and a much bigger target. Also, appearance usually speaks to one's ability, "You shoot the one on the left." Luscious further instructed, intending to gain information about the left guy's ability.

The triggers were pulled. The bullets traveled their way exactly to the targets' heads... Only, they were stopped by a series of rocks that spurted before the enemy.

The bullets did explode, but the explosion was nowhere near strong enough to reach them through the sturdy rocks. The man then controlled all the rocky material around him to build a bridge.

And it was finally time for the thin man to act as he vanished, his speed so fast that he could avoid every bullet just like he avoided the first one, moving about like a mirage.

"We should catch them alive," Luscious murmured, knowing that Silver might take interest in such special awakeners, not seeming bothered at all by the fact that the enemies were making a bridge towards them in a matter of seconds and that their bullets were basically useless against them.

All of that happened in a matter of seconds, yet that was enough for Sam and Loyd to achieve their goal as the small bright sun vanished, the sun that acted as a source of light and a signal for help.

"Mathew is dead!!!" The speedster exclaimed as he halted his steps, realizing that their colleague, another awakener had been killed. Although weak as his ability can only act as a source of light, radiating no heat whatsoever, he was still valuable for sending signals.

"Doesn't matter! Focus on getting rid of the snipers!!" The rock guy bellowed as leaped through hills of rocks of his own making. Their only chance of survival was getting rid of the snipers which would surely prove to be a headache when facing the enemy's main force.

The main force is naturally Sam and Loyd, and they're part of Umbrella's Quintessence for a reason... They've been underestimated as they performed their mission in seconds before quickly making their way back to the battle, or rather, Sam kicked Loyd directly toward them.

"Watch out!!!" The rock guy warned the speedster, the latter naturally reacting quickly as he had time to eye Loyd before gently steeping to the side with a grin, even going as far as punching Loyd directly in the face.

Loyd seemingly couldn't do anything as he flew in the air, unable to change his direction. He could only take the punch that amounted to the fall of a hill on his cheek, stunning his head, "AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!"

He screamed... Not Loyd but the speedster, screaming to the top of his lungs, blood spurting from his hand.

The speedster's hand came in contact with Loyd. Therefore, the latter's power of decay took effect, taking out a significant chunk of his hand in that split second.

Unfortunately for the speedster, the rock guy was way too slow to save him from what was to come as Sam followed right behind Loyd, taking the opportunity to send the speedster flying while the latter was still wailing.

And well, he sent him flying directly toward Loyd who struggled a bit to stand up amidst the rubbles, feeling very dizzy, dizziness which vanished quickly as the Silver cells did their magic.

Loyd, thus, was able to quickly get back his composure, lifting his hand and waiting for  the speedster's face to land directly on it, "Decay."

"You son of a bitch!!!!" The rock guy wailed, but soon he wailed no more... Serenity returned to the area, just not for long.

"Umbrella wants living test subjects, so please try to keep them alive from now on," Luscious advised as he eyed Loyd who was pulling alongside him the dead body of the speedster, the latter's face absent, leaving behind only scarred bloody flesh and a flood of blood.

"I was dizzy, so I wasn't in the right state of mind," Loyd shrugged.

"Also, don't try dangerous things like that," Luscious nodded before further adding, "The punch to the head could've killed you."

"No, it wouldn't," Loyd shook his head with a weird smile, "You'll understand in the future." Luscious is still new after all, so there is a lot he doesn't know, especially about the Silver cells.

Luscious frowned but didn't ask any questions, he merely led everyone far away from the nuclear power plant before meeting with the other team... Indeed, they weren't the only team, there was another team.

"Already done?" Luscious asked with his face twitching as he eyed the icy girl before him, none other than Crystal, and she just nodded.

The other team consisted of a single person, Crystal. That's it. Quite the monster she is, Luscious realized.

If there was any conversation to be had, it was cut short as the city brightened, the darkness of the night dissolving as the city lit up, the sound of a deafening explosion reaching them soon after.

They turned around to look in the direction of the Nuclear power plant... No more, it became nothing but rubbles and an extremely radioactive area, the flames of the blast reaching the sky to brighten this dark day.

"The rest is left to Silver, so let's head back before we're detected," Luscious stated before walking away.

The mission was actually very simple, to accelerate the occurrence of mutations through creating armies of zombies, so they sought to use a second nuclear power plant to provide the perfect environment for zombies to thrive, but also to keep humans away.

That's the second radioactive environment Silver acquired. The only place left is the third nuclear power plant which was completely cleared by Crystal, but in contrast to the other where Loyd and Sam planted bombs all over the place, the last nuclear power plant was left clear.

The only thing Crystal had done was encase it in a dome of ice as per Silver's instructions. He has some plans for the last power plant.

While the group made their way back to Umbrella, Silver was nearby the site of the explosion, so close that the heat of the explosion reached him but couldn't do much to him.

Silver very much enjoyed the spectacle, his eyes closed, feeling the burning breeze of the explosion on his pale skin alongside his friends, zombies, numerous zombies.

And at the very center of the zombies was the Zombie Queen, awaiting her lords to give the order before she spread her branches in the place, this very nutritious place.

Suddenly, two things brightened the place even more, Silver's radiant silverly eyes as he opened them to look at the other luminous thing, the luminous shadow of a person in the sky followed by a cry of rage.

'Bernard?' Silver narrowed his eyes, his domain sensing something very peculiar, 'And the power of faith? That... It feels like the divinity of salvation?' He realized, for he feels that type of faith all the time.

'That should be impossible... Unless?' Silver frowned, feeling the divinity to be very complete, and something Silver knows to the heart is that despite being a lord himself, capable of sensing and absorbing faith, it's basically useless, and to form a divinity would require what feels like thousands of years to even magnitudes more.

'Unless the Gods are watching... Unless they're capable of interfering with the game,' Silver mused as he closed his eyes again, 'So was the game created as a way to amuse the gods, or is there more to it? Awakening...'

Silver clearly felt the scythe of death gently resting on his throat, even imagining the eyes of gods on him. Any wrong move or choice would mean death.

Just when he defeated the malignant cancer he had, an even more malignant disease showed itself, spreading to every shadow in his life, hiding in every notch in his restless mind... The Unknown.
