Chapter 38: Plague Of Death IV

...........

Just when he defeated the malignant cancer he had, an even more malignant disease showed itself, spreading to every shadow in his life, hiding in every notch in his restless mind... The Unknown.

Bernard was certainly mad, but he could only watch from afar as the flames encompassed the entire place, although failing to spread much further.

The explosion had already done enough, bringing down everything around into nothing but radioactive rubbles and ashes, and with nothing left to salvage, Bernard could only watch from afar, wrath eating him.

All the old man could do was send his people to investigate for he was sure whoever was responsible had already left and he couldn't detect Silver for he wasn't in his line of sight.

The only reason Silver was able to detect him was because of his domain and the massive white construct he manifested.

Bernard and his people had to wait until the next day, at least until the flames died down before they could investigate. The radiation, it isn't that difficult to deal with for them.

Yet imagine their surprise when the very next day, they found themselves plagued with the strench of death, so much death and so much of the dead wandering about.

In the course of one night, the radiation zone turned into a zombie nest with hundreds of thousands of zombies wandering about, even ones not under Silver's control as radiation is very attractive to zombies.

However, what was most unsettling were the eyes hidden in the rubbles and amidst the constructs of flesh, flesh released by the Zombie Queen for the purpose of building her nest.

And it took her but one night to turn the area into a sea of flesh and blood, in which hid many abominations, lickers, and even zombie dogs.

Umbrella may not fear zombies anymore due to the cure but the same couldn't be said for everyone else. There must be others whose ability grants them immunity to the virus but those are the minority.

For everyone else, even a single scratch means death, turning into a mindless zombie, thus why most's way of fighting zombies is attacking from distance.

Eliminating this limitless horde of zombies, however, seemed to be nothing but a pipe dream, and reaching the Queen was even more so, for hidden right by her, in the clumps of flesh were several Queen guards.

Umbrella of course studied the Queen guards and they found out that the zombies closest to the Queen naturally evolve to become guards, as if the virus was programmed to function in a certain way.

So Umbrella already prepared several guards and while they're weaker than the Tyrant Zombies which are still in the testing phase, they're still stronger than the majority of humans.

The Lords in New York could only watch as the plague of death very quickly spread to the point of hopelessness. In a matter of two weeks, the hundreds of thousands of zombies turned into millions.

Umbrella certainly couldn't create so many on their own, but the Zombie Queens certainly helped as they introduced more and more of them into the nice city of New York.

The most important thing, however, is the fact that the zombies controlled by Umbrella can infect the other zombies with the Silver Cells, thus introducing them into Umbrella's Hive Mind.

Silver never had to show himself. All he needed do was sit back and relax in the comfort of his own labs, and he naturally took over New York as the other Lords had to escape.

Today was quite the interesting day as it was the Quintessence's first meeting since the group was formally established, the group of people who rule over Umbrella.

Yet the second strongest person in Umbrella wasn't attending for she wasn't a part of the Quintessence, Crystal. Silver did invite her, but her response was very much expected, she only wants peace and quiet until she gets back her little sister.

The Quintessence so far consisted of only five individuals with only one position missing as he has yet to find one suitable for it, and Silver's plans didn't consist of adding any more members than the final six.

So the round table they sat around had exactly seven chairs, only one of which was empty, and Silver naturally sat at the head of the table, adorned in clean white clothes as usual.

However, there was an extra individual in the hall, someone wearing a black suit akin to a butler's outfit and a black mask, hiding every speck of his skin, and even his eyes were entirely white.

"Luscious, how is your progress?" Silver calmly asked, initiating the meeting.

"We've already fixed most electronics and put them to use," Said Luscious, "However, constructing production lines will take some time even with the help of awakeners."

"That's to be expected," Silver nodded as he stroked his chin, "What about the Red Queen? Were you able to improve her?" To a certain extent, his questions were mere formalities as he pretty much knows everything that goes on in Umbrella, but the others don't.

"I did," Not so surprisingly, the man with the cyber mind nodded with clear confidence, "And I think I can push her to greater heights, although I would need a lot of time and more information to add to her repository."

"That can be done with time," Silver nodded, "And the new Zombie Worker units should be able to help with constructing production lines."

"Huh?" Luscious blinked, somewhat confused, "Zombie worker unit?"

"It's our new invention using the Zombie Queen as a sample as she's more intelligent than most zombies," Natalia took the chance to explain, "We created a type of zombie that can understand relatively complex commands and with ridiculously strong bodies, thus they can take over all the heavy work in Umbrella from now on."

"That... That changes everything," Luscious blinked, his cyber mind simply unable to process the sheer usefulness of such a zombie.

"Therefore, we can start our expansion project," Silver released quite the strange smile as he said, "Brief us on the repair project's progress."

"We were able to repair a total of 31 Helicopters, a third of which are military grade. However, we were able to repair only five aircrafts, only one of which is a crago aircraft. The rest will take a while." Luscious stated as he showed them all the helicopters and aircrafts he spoke of on his tablet.

"I assume that the rest were either taken by the other Lords or fell somewhere else," Luscious added, "Our best bet in finding more transportation vehicles is military headquarters and airports of other cities."

"No, that's enough for now," Silver shook his head, "Our first priority is spreading our eyes everywhere as soon as possible, so let's start the expansion plan."

"By the way, who is that?" Natalia curiously asked what had been on everyone's mind since the start. Who is the strange person standing behind Silver?

"Oh, It's Larrious," Silver shrugged.

"Who?" Natalia was confused, never having heard of the name.

"It's the first abomination I met," Silver explained, "I've used him for a project of mine and he turned out to be the only success... Larrious is quite the special Zombie."

"Speaking of which, the success of my project should make things much easier," Albert suddenly said as he massaged his mustache, "The Tyrant project is ready to go."

"Tch," Natalia couldn't help but click her tongue, "The success of the Worker Zombie project accelerated the project of the Nemesis project significantly, so expect your Tyrant to be useful for, like, a month."

"Hahaha," Albert strangely let out a light laugh as he shook his head, "Don't worry, I already started work on a new project, the Hercules Project, so expect your Nemesis to only be useful for, like, a month."

"I've already drawn out plans for a new project which I will start directly after the Nemesis project. It's called the Demigod project, so expect your Hercules project to only be useful for, like, a month." Natalia fired back.

"Hahahah," Silver let out a genuine laugh of amusement as he finally signaled for them to stop, "We have more pressing issues... The gods are watching, and they're capable of interfering with the game."

"What?" Many were still wondering if gods even exist, yet here is Silver said definitely that not only are they watching but they can mess with the game.

"I will not explain much for I don't know if there is any consequence of explaining such things," Silver continued, "Just know that we should try not to act ourselves, but let our toys act."
