Watching Rui take her first steps in a combat frame, Zai could help but feel proud. After a basic walk, they worked on orienting her to the arm controls.
Two hours after they started, Rui was ready to try sprints. She ran circles around the field while the engineers and K'le took notes. After ten laps, Rui popped open the pilot armor to reveal a massive grin. Despite the cool air of the early winter, she was sweating and panting, but she looked alert and excited.
As far south as they were, Zai knew there wouldn't be much snow here, if at all. Just the odd day or so.
K'le rewarded her by showing her the switch for the air conditioning fans.
"What's next?" Rui asked as she relaxed into the cool air wafting at her from the sides of the frame.
