It wasn't fair.
The war wasn't supposed to end like this.
The Continental Alliance was supposed to have the new Republic of Aviye as its puppet, not lose it to some rabble... All his planning, millions spent, lives lost... He had every expectation he'd be held to account for it.
Then there was Ambassador Rahin.
All he'd done the entire time was watch Sommer stoically, even after word of his assistant's disappearance was allowed to come through. They'd had to communicate in broken sentences without her, and Sommer was doing double duty trying to salvage the embarrassment of losing not only the entire division of mercenary frames but the Second Ascendant of Lightning herself.
Everything left would be lost the moment Sommer evacuated along with the rest of the staff officers the President had sent as advisers.
