Mao ni novels are different from regular cn novels that are full of cliche, repeatative tropes and fluff. Mao ni novels have well thought of plots, full of literature (like poems and qoutes), descriptive paragraphs. For sure, not everyone prefers this. Writing style is a bit heavier compare to shallow and easy to understand novels. It might take a while for thing to get interesting. But it is worth taking note of, mao ni novels are different from others of it genre

LIKE"I am one who would rather suffer an eternity of destined calamities than beg for solace from thy saints..." This sentence alone reeks of the typical "Overbearing" and "Domineering" MC tropes. I'll give it a shot, but will probably drop it if I see to many tropes, and will drop it even faster if it turns out to be a harem.
It's true that the original intent of the poem/literature may be lost in translations. Well, we chose to read translated chinese webnovels which were written with the influence of their culture. As per reading those is a chore, I guess everyone has their own view. Every writer (or translator) is different, the same story may be conveyed in a different way than others. Maybe if someday, your taste changes, or u want something different, you can try reading it. Like when, I have days that I only want to read light-hearted novels after reading something too heavy. :)
