Nonhuman characters are more interesting when the human souls don't go to great lengths to pretend they're still human. For example, this jellyfish mc doesn't need to sleep. Ever. Still, he stops every night not because it's dark or dangerous to move around but because he wants to maintain the routines of humanity. It slows him down. And when he's traveling somewhere to do something while he's completely alone it isn't interesting, it's idiotic. You don't need to maintain your humanity to such a degree you refuse to take advantage of your new nature. And as of chapter 11 he's long since left the ocean behind and it doesn't look like we'll be revisiting it now that religions and villages have been introduced(A development that happened way too quickly IMO. We only just started exploring the ocean floor). So this story isn't very adventurous nor do we have any reason to put the budding sea monster on a pedestal anymore. He just doesn't feel legendary or mysterious now that's he's less than 1% of his original size and about to straightforwardly introduce himself. - This review will be subject to change as I continue reading but I wanted to warn anybody getting their hopes up that this story only just barely represents it's Cthulhu namesake. Pretty much all you're getting is a big jellyfish. And judging from the mc's empathy towards people he's going to be a copout "evil god". So don't expect any mind-melting horrors, death flags for entire continents and worlds, alien minds and etc. Just note that my current problem with this story lies entirely with an mc I'm beginning to dislike. I've seen people mentioning this story used to have translation issues but I haven't noticed anything yet so you should be good to go if that's what you're worried about.

Looks like my review is becoming more and more accurate. He's currently declared the Night God's as his enemies which are basically the evil gods in this world. He's buddied up to some nice benevolent gods and talked about how their presence made him feel warm and good. That kind of thing. I just can't get past its namesake. You can't write a story about a big monster and pretend that gives you the right to name it after a horror story. The resemblance between the 2 is too surface level and without that haunting tone of the original there might as well be nothing shared between them. There's no way to get past the comparison when it's right there in the name.

This is the mc's philosophy. "Even if Sui Xiong was really a God, he was not a god like the God Wu Mian. In his view, the glory of a God came from the virtue and the talent of his followers, the praise of the beneficiaries, instead of the threat and terror. A god who made his follower devote everything he had—even his life—should never be called a god, but a devil!" I'm going to stop commenting for a while because the hope I've been holding on to that I'm wrong and things would change is gone. I guess all that's left now is to see if there's anything else worth sticking around for. I've still only just started reading this story so it could happen.

One thing I liked about the MC was that he was good. So many of these Chinese MCs are pretty much evil no matter how much they hide behind the flag of True Neutral. A normal Chinese MC in this world would attempt to become a God so he can be the "Strongest" while simultaneously bashing all God's as an "Chinese Atheist".

Evil mc are more rare you can find about 1 evil mc in every dozen good mc, for me personally I love antagonist but I don’t hate good mc unless they trying to save everyone or someone annoying

It depends on your definition of evil i guess, the common Chinese MC wanting to be strong and killing/stealing anything in his way would be described as evil. If you view the Xianxia/Xuanhuan they are rarely any good people. There are two kinds of evil, there is Linley from Warlock of the Magus World who admits he's evil and there's Chinese Xianxia MC who will kill/steal/rape in order to get Powerful but will lie about how evil he is.

I think you misunderstood something, he doesn't mean that it is a bad thing in a story that character acts according to morale code that was sewn into his being in the modern world, what wrong is what we see in the novel simply denies its title. So it is quite disheartening how author tries to bend our perception of Ctulthu.

According to others Cthulhu is wrong and it should be translated like Wicked God. Essentially he doesn't follow the rules of Gods because of his moral compass from Earth.

For me the distinction between the 1 evil mc in every dozen mentioned by StressedByHW and your own opinion stops entirely at "does it FEEL taboo?". Cause like you said if you take the mc of just about any Chinese story they really are murder hobos, thieves, racists and sometimes even rapists. But that seems normal for those worlds as if the mc isn't actually doing anything wrong by their cultural norms. If it gets particularly bad that's when I'll drop a story but usually, I'm down for immersing myself in the world and the character so I can experience them vicariously. But then you have an mc like Linley who made me love his story so much I read it again immediately after it finished. What he was doing was so clearly taboo for his world and because the author got every one of the antagonistic notes we're familiar with from other villains correct it does feel different when they really aren't. It's what makes WMW 1 out of a dozen. - But for this story I think it was fair of me to assume it would have a lot of horror and twisted elements to it. If it's the fault of a translator messing up the name then I'm a little annoyed tbh. It's misleading and for me it stopped this story from being its own thing that I could enjoy.

what i want to know is, is he really a Cthulhu? because if he is, how can he introduce himself to anyone when just sight of his form is enough to drive everyone mad?

My issue is with the author .(Racism) " This was an allusion on the Internet before he traveled to this world. It said that those who were lucky had a white face, and those who were unlucky had a black face. Those with a white face were naturally Europeans, and those with a black face were, of course, Africans. Those who were unlucky to a certain extent were African Shamans, Old Chiefs of Central Africa, and so on." If you have nothing good to say about other people's culture please don't say anything .This is one of the many times in your book, you have diss(attack) African People(Black People and their Culture). As African person I was disappointed cause I respect everyone's culture and race regardless and here author is dissing or down talk other people's culture and race.
