Because that's how a review works? The author is supposed to take the criticism to make a better novel. Criticism helps authors. It's not like a YouTube video where you can just dislike and leave so the creator can look at the like/dislike ratio to see if the content is good. Giving a writer only positive reviews when it's not how you truly feel is not helping, infact, you're doing the exact opposite.

How doesn't it help? Just because I was harsh? I explained why I don't like the novel which should be enough for any writer. If writers can't take harsh criticism then they'll never be good writers.

Did you review grammar, world building, character presentation besides the MC? You didn't provide any useful information that the author could use as feedback. You just wrote your opinion about the MC, which could be something that could have been placed in the comment section, not under review.

But what you're not getting is that all that shit like world building does not matter if you don't like the MC. To me the most important thing to any story are the characters and everything else is secondary. No matter how well done everything else is I can't enjoy a story where the main characters are all shit. It's like instead of Aang being the MC of Avatar the Last the Last Airbender, it was someone like the MC of this novel. The story and everything else is still perfect but with an MC like that none of that matters to me, I'm still not going to enjoy the show. That is why I did not comment on anything else, you are of course free to have you're own opinions on that but that's just the way I see things.
