Hola!. I'm here to give a review on one of my favorite novels I read right now on this platform. This is a complete honest review from me as a reader who is caught up with non privilege, and my position as a moderator of this novel has nothing to do with it. Let's start with the obvious. Of course arriving on this novel you might think it's a good old cliche exta novel, but I beg to differ that ITS NOT. In no way does the protagonist hide his power or try to keep the maincast away. He is not weak either as he is quick to catch up to the main cast. Story wise, this is a complete different route from the extra genre though I do agree that some starting chapters are similar, but lets be honest. Don't we all expect the starting to be similar in an extra novel. The character development of characters is very good, and though you might hate the author in some mini arcs for example the cultural festival, please stop being an average wn reader and read further to see why he did that. The characters are neither too flushed out or just blatantly dry. If they are, then that's just something that author develops further. The pacing of the novel is perfect as well, its neither too slow nor too fast. Which is also one of the main reasons why I love this novel. The plot of the novel is really different from extra novels and I mean it. In the normal cliche novels where the extra just has to kill demons, this is quite different as there are further things that come on later into the story. The author also perfectly sets emotions, depth and character development at each plot point. The stability of updates is something you absolutely don't need to worry about as author updates 2 chaps daily while also doing mass releases time to time. Overall, I highly recommend this novel to everyone and I would really hope that they give this a try and find out for yourself that this is infact not glazing and an actual honest review of the novel.

Also, I know it's ridiculous, but it starts off very cliché and I think it contains too many cliché elements, which reduces my enthusiasm for reading. What can you say about this? Also, from what I gathered from the first 2 or 3 episodes, MC is a bit of a jerk.

(TL;DR at the end)At first, I simply started this novel for more extra brainrot. I came in expecting the same old generic bs we see in literally every other extra novel in existence. I did not get what I wanted. But was I disappointed? NO. 'Extra's Descent', is unlike any other extra novel I have ever read(and I have read a LOT). First of all, the writing quality. The writing style of this novel is simple. It is more or less the same as what you can see in korean webnovels, or even in Entrail_JI's 'Advent of the three calamities'. Simple, yet efficient. It is a writing style I personally like a lot.[5/5] Next up, is the update stability. I have been reading this novel since it didn't even have a measly 10 chaps and I can guarantee you that not a day has passed without 2 chapters being dropped. And of course, the bonus chapters for meeting PS goals is being updated as well.[5/5] Story Development. I have to say this is most probably the most surprising part of this novel for me. Like I said, I went expecting a generic story and at first, I believed that is what I got. Oh boy was I wrong. What I thought to be plot holes at first turned out to be plot points for a major reveal. What I thought to be a generic story at first, turned out to be a gem hidden in plain sight. If you are going to read this novel, give it at least 50 chapters before you drop. Trust me when I say it will be worth it.[5/5] Character Design. We are getting to the good points(oh well, everything before was also good points but this does require a special mention). The character design of this novel is one of its strongest points. Each character, offers to substance to the novel and are a major driving force for the plot. In fact, I would dare say this is a character-driven story despite its enthralling plot.[6/5] World Building. Now this is where the novel hits a bump in the road. Everything, novel or otherwise, has its flaws. While I wouldn't go so far as to call it a flaw, the world building of this novel is in fact one of the only things I find to be lacking. Of course, it offers a unique twist by getting rid of demons. That's right, this is an extra novel WITHOUT DEMONS OR OTHER GENERIC RACES LIKE ELVES AND DWARVES AND ORCS. But I still find it to be lacking because we know nearly nothing about the world. All the information we need is revealed as the plot progresses but we don't get much additional information.[4.5/5] TL;DR: Read at least 50 chaps before deciding to drop, great story, spectacular characters, KR style writing, 2 chaps per day, NO WAR AMONGST GENERIC RACES BS and 100% recommended read. WQ:5/5, SU:5/5, SD:5/5, CD:6/5, WB:4.5/5. What are you still waiting for? Go read.

This review contains spoilers for the first 80 chapters of the novel. I had high expectations coming into this novel, as the "extra" narrative is something I enjoy, sadly I was disappointed. My complaints started when he first fought against the assassin in the Deus Company. He received his powers the day before, didn't train with them, and casually decided to fight against a TRAINED ASSASSIN?! How stupid is he? [He could have tried to escape, the assassin didn't seem to be interested in him. And with the system, he can have as much money as he wants, the CEO wasn't that important] The only reason he won was because he completed the quest, and that's another weird thing. For the quest he had to survive for 15 minutes, and you are telling me that they took that long to exchange a few words and a couple of blows? What an incompetent assassin! Also the way he wins is ridiculous. He uses a skill that I still fail to understand: the neutralize magic skill. The description of the skill is simple, but that leaves behind a lot of questions that are left unanswered: what is the range of the skill, and how much area does it cover? It only says a location, but does that mean that he needs to locate the precise point where the magic will be created, or is there a margin of error? Is it like a 1m sphere? 1 cubic meter? Who knows. And then the MC trusting the assassin was completely moronic. Leaving aside what happened later, did he really think that he could keep up pretenses for a long time? Did he really think Alpha wouldn't suspect a thing after seeing how weak the first seat was? I won't detract points from the novel for this, but something that annoys me are the girls in the novel. When I see the no-harem tag, what I think is a romantic subplot with just two people. Instead, I am 80 chapters in and we already have Rachel, Sarah, and even some weird moments with the teacher. There isn't anything concrete for now, but in 80 chapters flirty moments with 3 people is not to my liking. Seeing that there were other people with a system was quite interesting. Moving to the school trip arc, more problems arise. Firstly, did no one really notice that two classes of students (the two best ones, by the way) were sent in the middle of nowhere? And why didn't the professor try to resolve the issue on his own? Why does he need a bunch of kids? I don't know if I missed the explanation but I didn't get it. I also didn't like how the MC is behaving. When he's at the guild, and he finds out about the missing girl, he lashes out on the people there because they didn't help, but that's stupid. He's in completely different circumstances from them. They don't have a system. They can't buy potions, they can't create skills, they don't have multiple elements or the ability to nullify magic! They are vulnerable people who just want to provide to their family. They don't have an obligation to help others. Sure, maybe that means that they are not good people, but so what? Additionally, it's not like he's a saint. He also killed humans back at the hotel. Did he check that all of them were evil people without families? He also probably killed someone that was loved, it seems something so out of character.... Another issue is the power scaling of this world. There are ranks, but they don't seem to matter much. What is the difference between an S level and an F one? It's never shown (aside from the fight with Jin, but he's probably the strongest human in the world). Also ranks doesn't really matter because he can just nullify other people's power. In conclusion, I had some issues with the first part of the novel. Nevertheless, I will continue reading a bit more, and will maybe upload the review if it gets better.

This novel is really just something to pass the time when you have nothing else to read, which is a shame because it has so much potential. There are a lot of good ideas here, but they’re not fully realized. Spoilers ahead World-Building: There’s not much detail given. It’s mentioned that there are different continents, but there’s almost no information about the relationships, culture, or society within them. The main character (MC) lives in an empire on one of these continents, but there’s never any information about the imperial family or the empire’s hierarchy. There are supposedly great, influential families, but in practice, they don’t really matter. For example, someone from one of the wealthiest families is kidnapped, but neither the authorities nor the family seems to care—only the MC and the “hero” of the story take action, which makes little sense. In another instance, people and children are disappearing in an imperial town, yet no one seems to be doing anything about it. Even when a professor from the continent’s most prestigious academy calls for help, no one acts, causing unnecessary suffering. The problem is so easy to solve that it feels more like a Fallout-style experiment to see how the town would react to disappearances without any government support. Writing: I won’t delve into this too much because English isn’t my native language, so I might not notice things that native speakers would pick up on. But as far as I can tell, the writing is understandable, and I don’t get lost while reading, which is definitely a plus. Story Development: The pacing is inconsistent—it starts slow, then speeds up, then slows down again, and so on, making it feel like a rollercoaster. The story itself is interesting—not bad, but not particularly great either. There are storylines that make you want to know more, and others that you just wish would end. Characters: I have mixed feelings here. At first, the characters feel flat—not really interesting but not terrible either. Then, they start showing signs of development, like when one of the “main” characters acts classist toward the MC because his rank is too low, even though he’s hanging out with high-ranking people. Later, the MC outperforms her in a competition, and you see her regret her previous attitude. This makes you curious about how her character will develop… but instead, she just apologizes and quickly returns to her original behavior. The biggest issue, though, is with the MC himself. All the elements around him are intriguing: his entry into this world, the mysteries of the previous owner of his body, and why he was chosen to transmigrate. But the MC himself feels uninspired. He doesn’t learn, doesn’t grow, and keeps making the same mistakes. He comes up with plans that fail, blames himself, promises not to rely solely on knowing the novel anymore, then goes right back to doing the same thing. Even when he realizes that his knowledge doesn’t help much—because the world he’s in may resemble the novel, but it isn’t one—he rarely adapts or uses his knowledge strategically. He doesn’t try to recruit people who could be valuable allies in the future, nor does he look for artifacts that might benefit him. He doesn’t try to improve in any way; instead, he relies on a system that’s practically useless and rarely helps. Later on, when he gains the previous Brandon’s knowledge—which includes the experience of hundreds of attempts, alternative realities, and more—it’s like he learns nothing from it. Even though it’s mentioned that the previous Brandon was a genius at mana control and magical study, the MC doesn’t use any of that knowledge. He just calls the previous Brandon a failure for not being able to save the world in all those tries, even though he himself hasn’t achieved anything but failures, only surviving due to protective armor.

The Author's POV

The person whom the world revolves around. The person who defeats all of his opponents, and ultimately gets the beautiful girl. The sole existence all villains fear. That is the protagonist. What about me? As a failed author who had only one success throughout his whole career, I had reincarnated into my late novel. "This is it" I thought, as I tightly clenched my fist. Did I just get reincarnated in my own novel? Is this where I reincarnate in a novel and become the protagonist? No. Sadly it's not that kind of novel, as I reincarnated as a mob. The world doesn't revolve around me. The girls don't come flocking towards me. The cheat items don't come to me. "Phew" I let out a sigh of relief. "Thank god I'm not the protagonist" I joyfully shouted as tears streamed down my cheeks. Wait, are you curious as to why I don't want to be the protagonist? I did forget to mention the most important thing when I was describing a protagonist. That is... They are calamity magnets. I just died. If I learned something from that, it's that it really isn't a pleasant experience. If possible let me live a long stable life. Thank you, whoever reincarnated me. I would later come to regret these words... ======== Reader Disclaimer : Please read the *Read before reading novel* in synopsis. ======== Credit to _oinkchan for helping me find the previous novel cover Credit to Rengoku for his amazing edit of the new cover. ======== Discord : https://discord.gg/FNAKgfyky4 Patreon : https://www.patreon.com/TheAuthorPOV
