They saw him absorb the system in his chest, and having a small group of people know what's going on is paramount for earning trust and maximizing the usefulness of the system. This is not a novel where the mc can do whatever and people will look in amazement, secrets cause rifts in people and tend to attract a lot of prying eyes. Having some people he shares it with can mitigate the problem.
They saw him absorb an artifact, not a system. The magical things he would do afterwards could be explained in many other ways later on. Talking about truths and secrets when everything they know is all based on the biggest lie that he is no longer Roderick seems a little ridiculous though. The story is written amazingly but the mc is pretty meh. His thought process and decisions kind of suck.
