To be honest it never made sense why kids of uchiha clan were killed in story. Heck they would have a generation which was revenge hungry and loyal to village(if manipulated properly) It felt like author wanted to redeem itachi. Maybe it was cause zetsu wanted all the six paths descendants dead. But a backup is always good.
