Unfortunately, the system is well thought out. MC can control whether the effect will last eternity or wears of faster than intended. All effects are subjugated to MC's decision of whether to make them last an eternity or dispel them as fast as possible.
Too bad, would be fun with a story about a guy who tries to work through the demerits, instead of a typical “I’m just op” story.
