When the Rain is Made of Teardrops

She stood there, unable to move while trying to absorb what really happened between them. It's been years but why did she feel like she was already too late? She forced her feet to take steps, to go to him but then, she slumped on the floor while reaching for his hand. "Taiki.. I'm here. I'm sorry. I didn't know. I didn't know that you were here. I didn't know—" She cried hard while trying to spit out everything she wanted to tell him. She kissed the back of his cold hand. She missed touching him. She missed him. She badly missed him. "I— Taiki.. I didn't really know. I'm really sorry. I'm sorry for making you wait. I'm sorry for forgetting you. Please, wake up. Please look at me again. Please, Taiki. Please, I'm already here." She continued as she cried harder.

"About what happened between us last night.." She started and Kenta smiled faintly. He knew that she would reject him. He was already done wearing his clothes when she suddenly hugged him. He saw her crying earlier but he didn't speak about it.

"It's fine, Ren. I don't want to force you on something you don't want yet. It's fine. I will wait. What happened between us last night was not a mistake. We willingly did it." She nodded and tightened her hug. She needs to let go of someone but she still doesn't know who it will be. He left a kiss on her forehead before leaving.

Meanwhile, Taiki was wandering outside the headquarters. He was waiting for someone to arrive and when he finally found his target, he followed him. Ren saw him following Kenta's senpai. She furrowed her brows and discreetly followed the two. She ended up in a small chapel. She was about to hide behind the huge tree when Kenta's senpai saw her. She bowed her head and smiled at him.

"What are you doing here, Ren-san?" He asked and she looked around, thinking of what kind of excuse she will be able to give this time. She pointed at the chapel and smiled innocently. That's right. She needs to confess for the sins she had committed.

"I will have a confession, senpai." She answered as she walked towards the chapel. He opened the door for her and Taiki followed them inside. She took her seat in front and she felt like she was committing more sins because she just lied to the older one.

"Senpai, I saw Kenta's photo during the national competition. You said you don't know Taiki but you had a photo with him." She said, taking her phone from her pocket to show him the photo she got from the headquarters' database. He didn't bother to look at it. Of course, he knew that it was him.

"He was my partner during the stakeout. I was so surprised. I didn't know that he was part of the smuggling case. I tried to stop him but he threatened me with his gun instead. Then, he let me leave the location because he told me that he didn't want to shoot me in exchange for our friendship. The next day, I learned from the higher-ups that he escaped. I don't know what happened to him after that." He explained and tears fell from his eyes. She clenched her fists tight, thinking if she should believe him or not.

"Those were just lies, right? Tell me that he was not a bad police officer. Taiki was not like that. He would never do that." She shook his arm and he just continued crying. She couldn't absorb everything she learned. Is there any more ways to hurt her? She doesn't know what to believe anymore.

She felt a tap on her shoulder and she looked at the person who just arrived. It was Kenta. It's been an hour since his senpai left but she just couldn't accept what he just revealed to her. He sat beside her and she buried her face on his shoulder as she kept on crying silently. Her heart was aching and she couldn't take the pain anymore. He gave her a piggyback ride and since he knew that place, he carried her to the hill and showed her the beautiful scenery it can give to them.

"They said that if two people kissed here and when they go back to kiss again, they will be together forever." He said when he put her down and hugged her from behind. She wiped her tears and closed her eyes to enjoy the fresh breeze passing by. She was finally hushing down after knowing that he was there for her.

"Then, let's kiss." She whispered, turning to look at him and then, she kissed his lips. He smiled between their kisses and he couldn't help but to fall for her more. He gently broke the kiss and held her closer and tighter. Even if it means he has been used to forgetting someone, it will be fine for him. That's how much he fell for her.

Later that night, she went back home to talk to her brothers. They both knew Taiki since then and she wanted to know if Kenta's senpai is telling the truth. She had dinner with her family first and then, the people in the household gave them the whole place to talk. Whenever they have problems, they are always doing it, talking to each other and letting hear their own perspectives. This time might not be that easy though. She finished her cup of tea before speaking up. She prepared for this and she should not back away.

"About Taiki.. I will let go of him soon. I want to know what I should do to let him have his peace. Seeing his spirit lurking around, it is making me confused. Aniki said that you already held a funeral for him and buried his body but why is his spirit still wandering around?" She started and their second brother looked at her.

"Ren, are you sure about this?" Sho asked first and it took her a while before nodding. Sekai let out a deep sigh and placed a small piece of paper on the table. He knows where Taiki's body is. He knows what she should do for him to completely have his peace.

"I have a lead that might help you. I thought about this for a while and I know that you should know more about what really happened to him." Sekai added and she took the piece of paper. A phone number is written on it. She covered her mouth when she realized that it was Kenta's number. How could he have any connections with Taiki? He doesn't even know Taiki.

"This can't be. This is Kenta's number. How is he related to Taiki? He said that he doesn't know him." She stopped her tears from falling and then, she grabbed her phone to type down his number on the screen. It was really his number. She pressed the call button and after a few rings, the call connected.

"Kenta..?" She called his name and he asked her what was wrong. She unconsciously shook her head and just told him that she wanted to say goodnight. She felt like everyone around her was just playing her. She ended the call and she saw Taiki standing behind her brothers.

"Aniki, I think you need to tell her already." Her eyes widened when Taiki suddenly talked to Sekai. Sho looked at her as he didn't know if he should pity her or not. Their abilities to see spirits has been awakened since then but Ren's ability for it just started when she woke up from comatose.

"Why are you talking to Aniki when I'm just here? Did you purposely not talk to me?" She started confronting Taiki but he didn't even bother to talk to her. He just looked at her and smiled faintly. That's all he could do for her. Nothing more, especially when she already found the person who will take care of her once he completely leaves the human world.
