First Friend in Beacon

"The Vomit Boy!"

"Hey!" Jaune called out, clearly offended at her remark.

"Ahh! I'm sorry! R-Ruby, call me Ruby."

"Jin, the name's Jin."

.....

Soon, the trio were walking around Beacon Academy. They were in an area that were filled with scenic trees, arching architecture, and a winding road alongside a circular pond.

"All I'm saying is that motion sickness is a much more common problem than people let on!" Jaune ranted as they walked on.

Jin lightly elbowed Ruby, "He seems to be the only person in Beacon who has it."

"Look, I'm sorry. Vomit Boy was the first thing that came to mind." Ruby said while giggling.

"Oh, yeah?! What if I called you, Crater Face?" Jaune retorted, causing Jin to almost laugh.

"Hey, that explosion was an accident!" Ruby said before turning to Jin, who was grinning at her newly found nickname.

"Sup, Crater Face." He waved at her.

Ruby just groaned at this. She just hoped that Yang never hears this.

"Well, the name's Jaune Arc! Short, sweet, rolls off the tongue, ladies love it!"

The twins gave him a skeptical look before saying all together, "Do they?"

"They will! Well, I-I hope they will at least.....I think my mom always says that.....Never mind."

Jaune looked broken at this point, so Jin just patted his back in comfort, to which Jaune appreciated. Ruby giggles before a short awkward silence takes place.

"So.....I got this thing!" Ruby then pulled out Crescent Rose and stabs its blade into the ground, which made Jaune jump back in surprise.

"Whoa! Is that a scythe?"

"It's also a customizable high-impact sniper rifle!"

"A-wha...?"

Ruby then cocks the weapon while smiling, "It's also a gun."

But she was then reminded of something. Ruby glanced at the back of Crescent Rose's blade and she felt a little bitter.

'Rocket boosters! I need have it on!'

Ruby looked to her brother, "Hey, Jin! Remind me later on to add rocket boosters to my baby!"

"Fine, but do you even have the money to buy the mods?"

Ruby stared at him in a daze, completely realizing that she doesn't have enough money to buy all the stuff that she needs for modifications.

"Oh. That's cool!" Jaune praised before turning to Jin.

"How about you?"

Jin just showed his Silver Gauntlets that he dons beneath his long sleeves. The gauntlets were letting out some red electricity as Jaune gazed at it.

"Woah, it doesn't seem to look much, but I think it's pretty cool. So what does it do?" Jaune commented.

Jin smiled, "Nothing, it does nothing. Just your regular old gauntlets that functions as normal gauntlets."

Jaune had a bewildered look, "Huh? Really? Then why is it sparking? It must have some lightning Dust or something."

"No, it really is just some normal gauntlets that's just made with highly conductive metals and other strong materials for durability. Those sparks are just my Semblance."

"Ok..." Jaune said before looking at his also mundane sword and shield.

'Even though he also has some normal weapons, I bet he's a strong fighter...' He thought while being somewhat down.

"Wait a minute! You didn't bring 'Silver Tracer'?! Why?!" Ruby exclaimed.

Jin shrugged, "Not really needed. I'll only use that bad boy when a situation calls for it."

"But we are now in Beacon! Remember the initiation test?! We are required to bring ACTUAL weapons!"

Jin smirked and showed his gauntlets again, "But these are weapons. Plus, you really think I'll need Silver Tracer for killing some low-class Grimms?"

Ruby was a little annoyed at her brother's arrogance. He may be an easygoing and an amicable guy, but he was quite prideful.

Maybe because of the fact that he was considered and called by many as an unparalled talented genius, maybe because he was overwhelmingly strong, or maybe because he has never lost before.

Possibly in relation to it all, Jin was a prideful person, and will always show arrogance to his opponents. But he was not a moron, he wasn't some idiotic young master that doesn't know his limits.

"Your too full of yourself! You should stop being like that! You're too prideful for your own good!"

"Ruby, don't worry. I know how to act in the right situations. Heh, I bet your thinking that I will be beaten soon because of my ego."

Ruby just pouted at him before looking at Jaune, "So anyway, what've you got?"

"Oh! I, uh...."

Jaune then unsheathes a normal looking blade as he continued, "I got this sword."

"Ooooohh!" Ruby said curiously while Jin was appraising the blade.

"Yeah, and I've got a shield, too!" Jaune said as he gets his scabbard, he then raised his arms slightly and it unfolds into a shield.

"So, what do they do?" Ruby asked as she tapped the shield.

However, this causes the shield to refold into a scabbard. This, in turn, surprised Jaune as he lost his grip on the shield and attempted to catch it again.

What came next was a few seconds of him juggling his shield around while it unfolded and refolded, until he was finally able to get a proper hold of it.

"The shield gets smaller, so when I get tired of carrying it, I can just.....put it away..."

"But, wouldn't it weight the same?" Jin asked.

"Yeah, it does..." Jaune replied dejectedly.

"Well, hehe, I'm kind of a dork when it comes to weapons, sooo...I guess I did go a little overboard when designing it." Ruby said as she caressed her Scythe.

"Wait, you made that?! Yourself?!"

"Of course! All students at Signal forge their own weapons! Didn't you make yours?"

"It's a hand-me-down. My great-great-grandfather used it to fight in the war."

"Sounds more like a family heirloom to me." Ruby said with a few giggles before continuing.

"Well, I like it! Not many people have an appreciation for the classics these days."

"Yeah, the classics..." Jaune replied as he unsheathes his sword.

"Besides, it might be a good thing Jaune." Jin spoke out with his eyes closed.

"Why do you say that?"

"Some weapons that has been passed down has some kind of secret message from their ancestors, or have some great powers hidden in them. You never know, your sword might be some kind of a Holy Sword or something." Jin said, to which made Jaune brighten up upon hearing this.

"So what brought you to us, Jaune?" Jin asked.

"Eh? Why not? My mom always says that strangers are just friends you haven't met." Jaune answered.

Jin just smiled as they walked further down and quietly said, "Otoko, yatsu..." (Truly a nice guy)

"A what?" Jaune asked.

"Nothing..."

"Hmmm." Ruby was looking around while scratching her head.

"Hey guys, where are we going?"

"Oh, I don't know. I was just following you guys around. Y-you think there might be a guide or directory or something? Maybe a recognizable landmark.....I don't really know." Jaune anxiously said.

"Don't worry, I know where the orientation is being held. Just follow me." Jin said as he lead the way with the two following him.

Later on, the trio arrived at Beacon Academy's giant Amphitheater, that was filled to the brim with students who were gathering around for the orientation.

The assembly area takes he form of a glass-domed amphitheater with raised bleachers arranged in a circle around a circular stage that has a tall ornate backdrop with blue lights. There is also a large open area in front of the stage where students could stand.

As well as being used for meetings of the students, the assembly area could be used for dueling practice, with the raised stage serving as the fighting area. The lighting in this area could be carefully controlled, making it impossible to see the rest of the area, thus giving duelists the illusion of being entirely on alone in the area.

"Ruby! Jin! Over here! I saved you a spot!" Yang called out as she waved her a hand for the twins to see.

"Oh! Hey, W-we gotta go! I'll see you after the ceremony!" Ruby said as she ran off into the crowd and towards to Yang with Jin following her.

"See ya later, Jaune."

"Yeah, sure thing..." Jaune said as he watched the twins run to their assumably elder sister and sighed.

"Well that was fun, but where am I going to find another nice group of people to talk to?"

With that, Jaune just walked to a random spot in the assembly area to listen to the orientation. But he didn't notice a red haired girl in Amazonian Armor, that was looking at him curiously.
