Never

"Hey am I doing this right?" Xilo had to follow each instruction the woman gave him or this could very easily end in disaster. Althea shrugged her shoulders as she watched Xilo getting nervous. "You're doing fine, this isn't that difficult." Darkness filled the room as Landal continued to lose himself next to the graves. He had zero idea about what was going on with his surroundings making things much more smooth. "Just a bit more and you should be good to go." Landal grabbed the centre grave as energy poured into it. Cleaning off each of the graves one by one he felt a chill run up his spine as another set of breathing entered his ears.

"5 years ago....you failed to protect them."

"Huh?"

Whipping his head around the instant he heard it he saw something behind him floating him. A blur of darkness that surrounded the room with glowing red eyes that pierced straight into his heart. Landal's head was spinning as he looked at the blurr looking for some kind of life presence as its questions dug into his bones. The swirling abyss of darkness floated around him phasing through objects like they weren't even there as it asked a question. It's gruff deep voice raked at his ears causing them to bleed. Sometimes it felt like it turned away as it moved but would never stop looking at him.

"You let them die, why?"

"I-I-I didn't.I tried to save them! I was just too late."

"Too late or too weak? Your wife, all your friends and family died that day. Yet you can't say or do anything except make excuses."

"...."

"Do you have anything to say for yourself?"

Xilo stood there hovering over top of Landal as he tried to drag any information that he could out of him.

"Drahal is the one at fault here, he set me up! We both know that. He invited all of us to a party to celebrate my birthday. I thought it was a show of kindness at the time. I didn't think he'd slaughter everyone there, even my children."

Hearing Landal mention he had children took Xilo aback for a second, he didn't have any memory of Lexia mentioning she had children.

"You say that he slaughtered him but just today you kicked your own wife out and argued with her."

"That is not Lexia. That's just a puppet that was created by Drahal. I refuse to call that thing my wife no matter if they look the same."

"She has her memories too though."

"I...know, I don't know how he managed to create a puppet like that but it's not her. I saw with my own eyes how she had killed my own family. She sliced them apart without hesitation. My Father, My Mother all of them died because Drahal controlled her and then I was forced...to kill her myself. I saw life fade from her body....I lost everything all for nothing. Drahal never wanted to be friends with us.

The demon buried its way into his heart reading all his thoughts. Landal knew this thing was just a part of his own imagination. To the old Landal this was probably how he looked like to him now. "I'm just haunting myself..." Crumbling to the floor, Landal knew just how much he hated himself. Even though it was Drahal's fault he had always blamed himself. He had vowed to take revenge on him one day and soon that was coming. Listening to more of what had actually happened Xilo only found himself getting more confused as he talked with Landal. "He seriously thinks she's dead...plus the whole child thing." Things were headed in a very different direction than Xilo initially thought they would go.

Floating there the demon went silent for a few seconds giving Landal a moment to relive the past. The memories he had wanted to lock away and forget. It was a private little party he threw without many people, he didn't want to make it a big deal. "That was what Drahal said." Little did he know that everyone who entered was just another corpse to add to the pile of graves. After he defeated Lexia he watched as Drahal flew away laughing like a maniac until he disappeared. overtaken by the shock Landal felt himself pass out as soon as he felt safe. The next time he woke up though he saw Lexia right in front of his eyes trying to wake him up along with the rest of his family.

"They were alive the next day, I never knew why or understood how it was possible. People just couldn't revive."

"No they cannot and yet you saw them. Lived with them and eventually came to the conclusion that Drahal had done something."

"....He's the only one who would."

"Why keep them around then if they were already dead?"

"I couldn't find it in me to kill them again. I held onto the memory of their lives until I couldn't any longer. I began to hate them, despise them and even then I couldn't kill them. At some point I had kicked every single one of them out and sent them somewhere else except for Lexia...."

"Why her."

"Because if all of them were gone, Drahal would be suspicious."

Xilo asked a couple more things about the situation before he heard the woman's voice in his head. "Times up." If Xilo kept going any longer Landal would figure out that he was a real person and he would be dead. It was time for Xilo to make his own disappearance and return. "I've got enough information now I think...and a whole lot more questions." Talking with Landal, Xilo asked one more question before he had to go. It was just something that he was really curious to find out. Landal slumped his body as he heard the voice talking to him again.

"Do you think...you'll ever be able to forgive."

Looking up at the darkness Landal's eyes twitched as one answer came to mind only.

"No. Never."

Saying that Landal blinked as the darkness in front of him completely vanished and everything went back to normal.

Enjoy.
