Doctor

"Good day Jane"

"Good day doctor"

"How have you been so far"

"Well, just living my life since there's nothing much to do in this world anymore." She said taking her seat.

She let out a sigh resting her back on the chair and staring at the ceiling.

"Grandma sent you to speak to me to get the operation done again, right?"

"Yes." Said the doctor who was staring at her in a worried expression written on his face. "You see Jane, your condition is really critical. But think about it Jane, there's a fifty percent of chance you might survive."

Jane suddenly gave him a sharp gaze.

"And the remaining fifty?" She said in an angry tone.

He lett out a frustrating sigh and pinched the middle of his brows....

"Jane" he said in a low soft worried tone. "I have not just been your doctor for the past couple of years now, I've also been your dad's friend and a family friend to your family, and you know that. Your grandma and your dad are extremely worried about you. To be honest Jane, I sincerely think that this time it might be successful."

She quickly raised a brow and giving him that 'how' look.

"Your parents are planning on arranging the best doctors for you this time."

"And with what money?" She said in still in an angry frustrating tone.

"I understand, but...."

"It's really of no use trying to convince me anymore to get the operation done. My days are numbered already right? I'd rather use my remaining days trying to do something meaningful or something fun. If possible using the money to buy burgers for myself than spending it in an operation we're not sure of." She said in a now calm and teasingly tone.

Jane had been a lover of burgers. When she was still a kid, she'll always try her best to behave like the good child that she was just for her parents to get her more burgers. She'll study hard, bring back home different awards and always doing her homework very well. When she's been asked 'what should I get you?' Her answer will always be 'burgers.' She was pretty obsessed with it that her grandma nicknamed her 'burger lion' beacuse she actually turns into a lion when eating it. She doesn't seem to care about who was around at that time, all she knew was that she couldn't get enough of the woderful taste of it.

She was quite cool with the name her grandma gave to her at first, but later felt so uncomfortable and irritated when her grandma yelled out that name at the school's function. Her grandma will always tell Jane not to blame her for screaming that name out loud. Her grandma that day, have been calling out to Jane from afar. Jane was busy chatting with Lisa and the rest of her classmates. She was having fun with them and the place was quite noisy, so she didn't hear her grandma call out her name. And then her grandma screamed out that name 'burger lion' from the pitch of her voice, making everybody halt and stopped the activities they were all doing. They all looked terrifed maybe because of the word 'lion' which they heard, ignoring the word before that. There was a long silence and terrified look on their face as if preparing to run for their dear lives.

Her grandma walked towards her with a big smile on her face, not minding the actions on everyone's face, almost as if not noticing it. She called out again when she was close enough.

"Burger lion."

Jane who was also standing there frozen could only blink at what her grandma just said with complete shock written all over her face.

"My burger lion, I've been calling you for ages now. Come, come. Let's go take a picture together." She said dragging Jane out.

Looking at the crowd, she finally heard laughter at how the name sounded funny and the relief on everyone's face. She was so mad at her grandma for that. And since then, she has hated that name and her grandma would only call her that to tease her or to get her annoyed.

The doctor smiled widely. "So you really haven't changed a bit uhn?" He knew she was so much in love with burgers.

Laughter echoed in the room as both of them laughed so hard.

"Yes and you know that uncle Maxwell." She said in a happy face.

She called him uncle because she was used to his presence. He often comes by to see her dad often, and always comes along with burgers for her.

"My dear," he said now looking extremely serious and placing his hands on the table. "What do you think will happen to your family once you're gone. If not for yourself, why don't you think about your dad and your granny. Your dad has only you left in this world. Why don't you try and reconsider this whole thing. Coming to think of it, you're the only child Jane and they need you to survive this. To fight this."

"And what if I don't come back alive." She said in a sad tone.

"We don't know yet, but you have to..."

"Exactly my point uncle Maxwell. I'd rather die spending the remaining of my days doing fun things and going to places I've not been, and eating burgers. I've been living a boring life all my life, I just want to do something fun, just this once. I did nothing but listen to all of you. You guys made decisions for me and I didn't succumbed to any of that. I....I just want to do this." Tears were threating to fall from her eyes. She bit her lips and looked up at the ceiling again as if forcing the tears not to flow out. "I...I know what.....I know what they'll all go through , I want this for myself."

Looking at how emotional she was, his only response was 'ok dear'. He understood her very well and let her do as she pleased. It was her choice and he knew her mind has already been made up. He also knew she deserves anything good life have to offer because he knew her as a good girl, probably the most sweetest girl he has ever met. Sometimes, he even wished she was his child rather.
