"My name… My name is Anya," she choked out, the word raspy from disuse. Her voice echoed eerily in the open space, "Please," she pleaded, her voice cracking, "Please let me go. I won't tell anyone what happened today or who did it, "I… I won't cause any trouble," she stammered, her voice dropping to a desperate whisper. "I just want to go home. Please, I beg you, just let me..."
Tears welled up in her eyes, blurring the image before her. Her hands, bound at the wrists, felt rough against the cold cement floor she lay upon. Each desperate breath caught in her throat, fueling the rising hysteria. She wasn't just scared; she was utterly, terrifyingly lost.
She just wanted to return to her kids, and she would forget everything that had happened that day.
Her body trembled, wracked by sobs that she choked back, fearing they would only serve to draw unwanted attention to her plight. At that moment, all she craved was the familiar comfort of her life, the sound of her two kids, not in this tomb-like silence, but within the walls of her own home. Anya, who although in the openness of the terrace still felt like a prisoner in a fortress of stone and fear, awaited her fate, hope dwindling with each ragged breath and falling tear.
Yet what she dreamt was closer than she thought.
"Calm down, I will not harm you, I saved you from him, calm down okay, I will take you to your kids, just calm down," said Izuku as he maintained a safe distance from her, to make sure she could feel she was not trapped.
After his words registered in her mind, she calmed down and said, "R-R-Really y-y-you w-w-will t-t-take m-me to my kids?" Asked Anya as she was still scared yet she had stopped crying.
"Yes I will, just calm down and listen to me, okay" said Izuku.
Anya nodded.
"Fourth kind isn't who you think him to be, he's a sex trafficker, and you were about to get sold by him, but I saved you and more than 20 women like you.
And he's going to come looking for you and your kids, so you'll have to do as I say okay?" Asked Izuku as he calmly waited for her to register what Izuku said.
Anya's world came to a standstill. Everything she thought she knew was a lie. Fourth Kind, the guy who was considered as the chivalrous hero that everyone looked up to, was actually a bad guy – a monster who sold people.
Totally forgetting that she was raped a few hours ago, and that wasn't all he was going to sell her! Anger burned in her chest, but it couldn't chase away the icy fear that slithered around her heart. Her kids... what about her kids? They were innocent in this mess, dragged along like kittens in a sack.
Izuku's words washed over her again, each one a punch to the gut. More than twenty others. Girls, just like her, are trapped in the same nightmare. The weight of it threatened to crush her. She squeezed her eyes shut, trying to force back the tears that threatened to spill.
Izuku's gaze held Anya's, searching for resolve amongst the flickering shadows of fear and anger in her eyes. "Anya," he said gently, "I'm going to bring a revolution, and bring Fourth Kind down, will you be part of this event?"
Anya swallowed, the taste of betrayal still bitter on her tongue. "What do you need me to do?" she asked, her voice rough with determination.
He said, "Nothing much, just some truth, like telling everyone what the Fourth kind did to you," said Izuku, with a smile. His words were precise.
Anya listened intently, she was shocked that Izuku said something like that as simply as if saying a normal sentence. Seeing how normally he said something like that she had a mixture of emotions, she feared the hope he was trying to give her.
"But what about my children, and most importantly me, what about me, making a public statement like that, Fourth kind won't let me live, he would come after me and my children, they have just recently lost their father I don't want them to lose their mother as well, plus who would believe me, when Fourth Kind has made such an image for himself, no one would believe me, and I would just end up putting my kids at risk as well, I can let this go, forget about it, as my kids are more important to me then getting raped by someone." she interrupted, her voice breaking.
"You can say this because I saved you, had you still been there, in that warehouse, where you were kept, then you wouldn't have the luxury to say such things, you would mostly be high on drugs, fucked by someone, waiting to get sold, he wouldn't have listened to a single thing you said, now that you are safe, you don't want anything of him, not caring how many other girls are still waiting to be saved, living in misery, and how many others he would rape like this and sell.
You are worried about your kids, what about other girls, don't they have families as well? Don't they have people they love, waiting for them to come back, some girls were killed, some sold, and some were forced to write fake runaway letters, so they close the case, now that I saved you, you have the privilege of saying no, why not help in bringing him to justice, you are lucky to have boys, had they been girls you would have to worry about their safety as well.
If you can't help other females then I don't need you as well, I'll send you back to where they had kept you, then it's up to them what they do to you," said Izuku with a disgusted look on his face.
"If you do as I say, then I'll assure the safety of both you and your kids, no one would be able to touch you or your kids, but if you wish to not do as I say, then I'll let you go, and by now he would have already found out you are missing along with 20+ girls, he would go to any lengths to get you, and god knows what he will do after that, but I can assure you one thing, before you can even run away from Hiroshima he'll get his hands in you. Tell me what will you do after that?" said Izuku making her aware of all the possibilities and what would happen after she disagreed to help him
His words echoed in her mind, as she contemplated what Izuku just said, she felt a bit guilty, even though knowing what he had done, and that other girls were also in such a state, yet she decided to let what happened to her go aside, she knew if she let him go, Fourth kind would keep on doing it, with no one to stop him.
"How can I know you're telling the truth?" she whispered, her voice barely audible.
Izuku met her gaze, his own unwavering. "Because, Anya, I once wanted to be a hero, yet these people like Fourth Kind, have ruined the hero's name, and I don't want people like them to be in power or even go around with a pro hero in their name.
I've seen Fourth Kind's victims, their broken spirits, and shattered lives. I know what kind of person he is, and what he did to his own family, and I want to make sure that he doesn't get away with using his hero name to commit a crime, I want to make sure no one uses hero name to do anything like that, and respect the trust other people put in him, and make sure people like him think hundreds of times before even doing any such thing."
The sincerity in his eyes, the echo of her own pain mirrored in his face, pierced Anya's doubts. She saw a man driven by a wave of righteous anger, a survivor who understood the darkness she'd crawled out of.
Like a flower pushing through cracks in the pavement, Anya started to rise from the shock. Her kids. They were the ones who mattered. This monster wouldn't take them from her. Not on her watch.
Izuku's offer hung in the air – a lifeline in the storm. He promised to keep her kids safe, hidden away where Fourth Kind couldn't find them. He'd take care of everything, food, shelter, even new names if they needed them. All she had to do was help him bring Fourth Kind down.
Hesitation nibbled at her. Part of her wanted to run, to hide, and never look back. But another part, the just part, wouldn't let her. This wasn't just about her anymore. It was about every girl Fourth Kind had snagged, every dream he'd crushed. The fear didn't vanish, but it was pushed aside by a burning need for justice.
"Okay," she said, her voice hoarse but steady. "Tell me what to do."
