"Enemy attack! Enemy attack! "
[Reputation points from Steve Rogers +275]
The destruction caused by the tank was a real shock to Steve, who was hiding. Although he had tried his best to imagine the power of these armoured tanks, it was obvious that the destructive power of the tank Dio was driving caused a huge shock in his heart.
Trying hard to suppress his inner shock, Steve took off, running deeper into the base, while Dio drew the attention of the Hydra soldiers.
Passing through a suspected weapons manufacturing facility inside the base, Steve found a new weapon Schmidt had developed by deciphering the Tesseract's power.
A group of US prisoners held underground were rescued. Steve heard the news that there were other survivors still at the Hydra base from them.
...
"Sir, you have to come to see this."
The commotion Dio caused was no small one, especially with the indiscriminate shooting from the armoured tank he was driving, which caused a flash of anger in Schmidt's eyes.
"What is happening?"
Dio's destructive methods at the base were seen on the monitors. Before Johann Schmidt could give the order, another large group of captured US soldiers were seen running out of the base. Their presence made an already confusing battle situation a little more chaotic.
"it looks like there was more than one intruder in the base."
Thinking of that, Schmidt glanced at the monitors in the control room and soon noticed Steve's figure.
"The so-called Captain America..."
Schmidt obviously despised the successful test subject of the Super Soldier serum.
On the monitor, Steve was constantly fighting off the Hydra soldiers who were rushing towards him.
"It seems that our transformed soldiers are no different than before against someone like him."
Most of the Hydra soldiers inside the base had been injected with vampire blood under Schmidt's arrangement and had become ghouls. However, it was clear that the strength of these transformed soldiers alone couldn't stop Steve's pace. Even though these soldiers had already acquired considerable strength under the effect of the vampire blood, there was still a considerable gap between them and Steve, who had been fully fortified with the Super Soldier Serum.
Hearing these words from Schmidt, Dr Zola's expression changed. Looking somewhat reluctant.
He had always been somewhat disappointed with Dr Erskine's experiment, considering it a waste of time. However, at the moment, seeing Steve's actions, he had to admit that the super soldier serum-modified man in front of his eyes was indeed much stronger than the soldiers he had transformed.
Noticing the change of expression on Dr Zola's face, Schmidt spoke up, "However, Arnim, you don't need to jump to conclusions. Their serum experiment had met its end with the death of its inventor, Dr Erskine. As long as we have our vampires, we can keep growing, developing even better soldiers."
Saying that, Schmidt took another look at Steve's figure on the monitor. He pressed the alarm and activated the self-destruct device inside the base.
"No, no! What are you doing?!"
Noting Schmidt's actions, the expression on Dr Zola's face suddenly changed, "We've spent a lot of effort here."
"As long as we have the Cube and the vampire, we don't need to fear failure."
Schmidt himself was a rather decisive schemer, seeing that the situation inside the base couldn't be controlled. Not only Steve but the captives who had obtained the new weapons were no longer afraid of the ghoul soldiers. After all, even if the undead army in the base weren't afraid of bullets, the weapons could instantly turn them into ashes, and they couldn't resist at all.
"The Stone Mask? And vampires?"
Sealing the Tesseract into a case, Schmidt found that the remaining time wasn't enough for him to send someone to fetch the imprisoned vampire and the Stone Mask.
"Damn it!"
With a curse, Schmidt looked at Tesseract in his hand and winced, "Seems like it will have to be discarded."
In contrast to the vampire and Stone Mask, the Tesseract was what Schmidt cared about the most.
Therefore, if Schmidt had to choose between them, he wouldn't hesitate to choose Tesseract. After all, the power of the gods that the Tesseract possessed was the greatest in comparison to the vampiric power that the Stone Mask represented.
No matter how powerful a vampire may be, they would still be reduced to ashes when faced with a weapon created from the Tesseract.
...
"Huff~"
Knocking down a transformed soldier in his way, Steve, who was strengthened by the super soldier serum and was obviously stronger than these soldiers, was still feeling fatigued due to the constant fights. Lifting his spirits, Steve made his way to the first floor of the base. He was surprised to see Dio in the middle of a strange laboratory.
"Dio ..."
Subconsciously stepping inside the lab, Steve immediately saw the bruises on Dio's body, "You're injured?"
Turning his head and glancing at the unharmed Steve, the expression on Dio's face was noticeably colder. He covered the wound on his arm and gritted his teeth as he replied, "I was just distracted for a moment. These vampire soldiers pulled one over me."
Dio hid his real strength. Naturally, he wouldn't easily get injured by these transformed soldiers. The reason he allowed himself to get wounded was purely because he wanted to show the difference between himself as an 'ordinary' person and Steve.
"Vampire soldiers?"
Although Steve was concerned about Dio's injury, Steve was attracted by the words Dio had mentioned.
Steve then noticed that the laboratory he had arrived in was covered in a large amount of complicated and bizarre information, including a photograph showing an odd mural next to it, a lot of information about vampire rumours and some incomprehensible experimental data.
"Vampires don't exist, they're just... legends..."
When Steve saw the information, he was about to say something but immediately thought of the Hydra agent he had encountered earlier and remembered how he had turned into charcoal in the sun.
"Do ... vampires really exist??"
