"Char, why are you in such a hurry?" Anne asked him as he quickly left after class.
"I'm going to the arena, I want to try something there. Do you want to go with me?" he asked the girl.
"No, I will train my Imp so it is ready for its evolution, I have a path in mind and it is not an easy one to get," she replied before telling him good luck on his visit to the arena.
"With the last tournament, there should be fewer challenges from others, I have shown them that I'm not just lucky," Char thought as he put his hand on his sword.
He had a certain someone in mind; he wanted to fight the holy horse again. The skeleton might have killed it, but that was because it got caught off guard.
Char wanted to win against it without relying on the suicide technique. Although the compatibility was a problem, it was a good chance to test if the bone sword actually worked as he planned it to be.
When he arrived at the arena, I was as busy as always. People were gathering to fight or watch the fight.
The moment he reached the arena, he issued a challenge before anyone could challenge him. The holy horse ranked quite high, and Char would need to win a few fights before he could fight his target. He did not have time to waste in fighting lower-ranked opponents.
The first challenge was against a boy that summoned a giant snake, but the summoner decided to decline his challenge, which allowed him to climb the rank without a fight.
The summoner knew that its summoned creature was ill-fitted to fight against an undead creature, its greatest weapon which is its poison magic was basically unusable against the undead creature.
Char did not plan to challenge him because of his advantage, he just decided to challenge the man because he was the higher rank he could challenge and available for him to fight.
The second challenge was a hobgoblin, it was like fighting a human rather than a creature, the hobgoblin moves and acts just like a human.
Char told the skeleton to fight against the summoner while he tries to fight against the hobgoblin.
He used his black sword to incapacitate the hobgoblin. It was sharp enough for him to cut the creature even without his physical boost.
"It was physically stronger than me, but its movement was too predictable and slow. Or maybe I'm just getting used to fighting fast opponents," he thought as he cleaned his blade from the goblin's blood.
The sword was better than Char expected; it was harder than a normal black metal that Char could easily cut the opponent's weapon with his own.
After going through a lot of fights, Char finally was about to fight the man who had won first place in the last tournament.
"This time, it's a one versus one fight, I should not lose again. I have improved since our last fight, so it's time for payback," he thought.
Fighting the living armor was a choice too since he wanted to fight the one who beat him before, but the holy creature was the bane of his skeleton. He will need to surpass it one day, and there is no better day than today.
"It's you again! Do you bring even more explosives today? Last time you killed my creature because you caught me by surprise, don't think that you can beat me just because you can kill my horse once!" The summoner chastises him.
"Oh, I don't plan for a draw by making my skeleton explode, I will beat you this time," Char smiled.
The fight began and both of them summoned their summoned creature, the summoner run at Char with his sword raised.
Before they came into melee distance, the horse summoner shot out a white light from his sword. It was purification magic.
Even though its damage to non-undead was negligible, it still useful for doing ranged damage and blinding opponents.
Char did not flinch. He used his black sword to cut the light. Normally, the light would continue even after it has been split into two, but to the caster's surprise, it dissipated the moment Char cut it in two.
"One advantage of having adamantine in a weapon is that it can actually kill magic, although its quantity matters, I should have no problem with common rank magic," Char was pleased by his new sword.
His opponent used the chance to launch a surprise attack from the side but Char was prepared for it, he knew that a follow-up would come, so he sidestepped the attack before locking swords with his opponent.
On the other side of the arena, the holy horse shot the purification magic at the skeleton, even though it knew that Char could just resurrect it with a piece of bone he carried, without doubt, the magic still very effective against the skeleton.
Rather than dodging the light, the skeleton shrugged it off; it ran at the horse with its new bone sword.
It bathed in purification light, but rather than turning into a pile of bones, it only flattered for a second before it continued to attack.
It wiped its consciousness from all of its bone but the bone sword, with one remaining bone in its control, the skeleton took back all of its body control the moment the light disappeared.
"It works as I expected. Purification did not work on the sword since it's already holy in nature. Unless it destroys the sword, the purification would not work on it," Char grinned as he pressed on his opponent.
The older student was physically stronger and more experienced in combat, but Char used his physical boost just enough to compensate for his disadvantage.
He lessened the use of the physical boost little by little once he got used to his opponent's fighting quirk and technique.
Char's technique also improved considerably by using this method. He was getting better and better at handling his opponent.
"Now, it's time to settle the score," He grinned as he was ready to finish the fight.
