Chapter 129

Dio swore on behalf of all the gods that once this situation was resolved, and if he was alive, he would beat Constantine with all his strength.

He assumed that the man who came out of the dust was the first vampire as soon as he saw him.

Which was not good news for them.

The first vampire was standing in the middle of the room. He looked a lot like Andrew, but his eyes were all white and his hair was blonde.

The veins in his body were prominently red, which created a pattern all over his body.

He was shirtless, but there was a black cape coming from his feet and covering the ground.

The aura he emitted was like a void without light, sound, smell, and warmth around him.

He didn't say anything to them, but Dio could sense his gaze looking at them.

'Don't move!'

Dio alerted all of them.

'I got this!'

From the ceiling, Boston passed through him and flew toward the first vampire.

"Boston, no!"

Constantine shouted to try to stop him.

Boston kept going because it might have to compensate for his early capture.

Dio freed him shortly after saving John; his cage was on the ground, and he just needed to break it to set him free.

Boston floated a few inches away from the first vampire with extended hands. He screamed and opened his arms just before the hit.

A sphere of blood-red energy exploded from his body and hit Boston, but his scream didn't make any noise.

The red sphere expanded like a black hole while devouring everything around them.

"Everyone out!"

Dio shouted while holding John, and he flew up.

The people who could fly and Kid Flash helped everyone else get out of the house, gather in the garden in front of the red sphere that covered the whole house, and stop devouring.

"Beautiful, isn't it?"

Mary appeared while floating on the left.

"You crazy woman. Do you know what you brought into the world?"

Constantine asked.

"Me? I didn't do anything; it was all you, Constantine."

Mary teased.

They didn't pay attention to her for a while because things were so bad, and they looked at God instead.

"What is that thing that looks like Andrew?"

Kid asked.

"Constantine, you idiot, explain it to them."

Dio spoke as he put John on the ground.

The drop Dio gave him wouldn't be able to heal all of his serious wounds.

However, his body still needs time to fully recover from the pain he endured.

He's out for the next battle.

Before he could finally explain, Constantine took a cigarette out of his pocket and lit it up as if he wasn't guilty of anything.

"The first vampire was Cain, son of Adam."

"Like in biblical stories?"

Kid asked with his head tilted to the side, which made him laugh.

"Exactly."

Constantine agreed seriously enough for even those with doubts.

"Cain was the first murderer; because of his crime, God cursed him to wander the world eternally, and thus the first vampire was born."

Dio provided a bit of an explanation.

He didn't tell Batman and the team which version of the first vampire would be in this reality because he didn't know yet.

Unfortunately, they ended up with the second worst version possible, second only to the God of Vampires, Mandrakk.

"How do we defeat him?"

Starfire asked.

"HAHAHAHA!"

Mary laughed from above.

"You can't kill him, kid. Didn't you hear? God himself cursed Cain to wander this world forever. He is immortal!"

"She's right, we can't kill him, but we can seal him again."

Constantine suggested.

"We've got movement!"

Kid warned.

In front of them, the red sphere disappeared and revealed a destroyed house.

The first floor and all the walls are gone, leaving only the ground floor. Cain had moved and was now flying up with his energy surrounding him.

"He's heading toward the city."

Starfire spoke as she slowly approached Mary, but before she had a chance to attack, Mary turned into a mist and disappeared.

"Sorry, I couldn't do it."

Of course, Dio wasn't just talking with their enemy nearby; he sent some telepathic messages to Starfire to try to capture her alive.

This way, they could get some answers as to why the first vampire was unleashed when Andrew died.

"And thus goes our source of information."

"Shall we follow them?"

Kid asked.

"Yes, we have to inform the others as well. We can't let them attack Cain."

Dio remembered something.

"What do you mean?"

"God not only cursed him with immortality, Kid but also gave him a mark, the Mark of Cain. In short, there are seven calamities that await anyone who attacks Cain."

They must not only fight an immortal but also do so without attacking him directly.

"It sounds like an interesting challenge."

This seems to have put down everyone except Starfire.

"Don't worry about that; this Cain doesn't have the mark."

"What do you mean, this Cain?"

Dio asked Constantine in confusion.

"Long story, so just accept it for now. Let's find our ghost and get out of here."

Constantine responded

Boston wasn't far away; he was lying on the floor of the room while groaning softly in pain.

"Ghosts can be hurt like this?"

Kid Flash asked in shock.

A common misconception was that people often thought that after death, nothing could harm them since they were no longer alive.

"Yes, but this wasn't a wound; he was drained, and that shouldn't be possible."

Dio said while kneeling beside Boston's body.

Boston was in the same condition. Andrew was a few seconds ago, all dried up like a mummy.

"I don't know how to help him."

Dio told Constantine.

Constantine kneeled beside Boston and placed his hand on his forehead.

"All his energy is gone; he needs more, or it will take him a few days to be able to move."

Constantine said this while looking at Dio.

Dio understood that and raised his hand, which glowed with gray ectoplasm.

"How do I do this?"

Dio had never performed an energy transfusion on someone before.

"Place your hand above mine; I'll do the rest."

Dio hesitated a bit; this guy wasn't trustworthy, but he knew he wouldn't do anything to Boston or me now.

So, Dio put his hand above his.

The process was simpler than he thought it would be.

Constantine showed Dio how to make his ectoplasm compatible with his to let him accept his magic, which is like blood.

After a few seconds, Boston's dry body started to swell up.

"Sorry about that. I thought I could contribute more to the team."

Boston apologized and looked embarrassed.

"You already do; just be more careful when attacking an enemy god."

"I promise, and thank you."

Boston thanked him and looked at Dio.

"Look on the bright side, Boston."

Constantine butts in again.

"Bright side?"

"We just found out what the danger Rama Kushna warned us about was."

"We have to move; our comrades need help!"

Starfire informed them.

Starfire was responsible for reporting what happened here to Batman.

"What are we going to do with John?"

"You're not doing anything to this old man!"

They left him sitting in the garden, but he's already strong enough to walk over here.

"I may be almost dying, but I have two things to do before that, kill a biblical being and this idiot!"

John shouted and pointed at Constantine.

"Many have tried, old man, and many have tried."

Constantine didn't care about the threat, as he was sure of himself.

"We've wasted too much time, Constantine. You open the portal."

Dio asked.

"Not gonna happen mate."

It was his voice that made Dio lose patience.

"How do you mean it's not gonna happen?"

"That last fight and spell drained me; the tank is empty. I need a few minutes."

Furthermore, Dio was almost empty, which made things even worse.

"Flying it is, then."

Dio decided.

"Starfire, you carry, Constantine."

Dio said.

"Sure thing!"

Starfire responded enthusiastically and lifted off into the air.

"Wait, what do you mean to carry?"

Starfire grabbed Constantine from under his arms and flew upward.

"Why don't you take him?"

Kid asked.

"There's a good chance I might drop him accidentally."

That was an honest answer.

"Can you run there without stopping?"

Dio asked Kid.

Kid wasn't as fast as Flash yet, and his endurance wasn't as great either.

Dio didn't know what he went through while they were fighting in the house.

"Easy, easy."

Kid said while giving a thumbs-up and ran out of the house.

Dio stayed behind with John.

"This might be a bit uncomfortable."

Dio warned and picked him up in the same way Starfire did.

Boston flew on the other side while maintaining speed.
