Path to Follow

At the Central power generation area aboard the shore, people were busy working about. Although the power plant was mostly automated, and the operators there only needed to keep everything in check and look out for any anomalies, There were enough things going on aboard to keep them busy.

Vivian was busy monitoring and managing the power supplied to different areas of the ship. The terminal in front of her showed the different areas that needed a huge amounts of power, she needed to manage the energy flowing through the area and balance it among the different supply lines as to not overload one of them, because that would be problematic.

The most power hungry areas generally included the Production areas and the defense systems of the ship. During turbulent times, the shield generators were the most power hungry component of the ship. And thus had the highest priority when it came to energy supply.

As Vivian went on about her day, she suddenly noticed a spike from the Labs section. As the Labs were a big part of the ship, much of the energy produced was allocated to the labs and they were sufficiently supplied. But this sudden spike was a bit unnatural.

Vivian looked at the sudden spike, she noticed that it wasn't coming down. This was an anomaly. Normally, this kind of spikes were only produced when the powerful lab scanners were being used. But The energy draw was a bit greater than usual.

She looked at which lab it was, and found it to be Lab X. That was assigned to Dr. Kita, she confirmed that Dr. Kita was inside the Lab, and was probably performing some experiments.

She didn't think much of it, as it was still under the tolerable amount, she chalked it up to a one time thing and then adjusted the system to handle the sustained load.

Unknown to Vivian and everyone else, Dr. Kita was busy performing the most bleeding edge research that humanity had yet to get a grasp on. Kita had invented a method of creating Anti-matter that was sustainable relatively cheap, and most of all, sustainable and replicable.

The last points were the most important. Part of Humanity was obsessed with Anti-matter for millennium, but all the methods they had discovered relied on things like chance. No one could claim they had a process as replicable as Kita's. Not to mention, as efficient as his.

If one measured the efficiency of his machine and the other methods that humanity used, it wasn't even a proper comparison then.

Kita had dozed off while waiting for the production of anti-matter to finish. He was really tired. He wasn't sure when was the last time he had gotten any actual sleep, he could only count the amount of time he spent knocked out in the med bay as sleep. His sleep schedule was all out of whack. So when he finally relaxed a bit after successfully completing the machine, his eyes had closed by themselves and he had dozed into sleep.

He was woken a few hours after by a sudden ping from Dr. Kbom. He had found out that Kita hadn't followed his orders and didn't report to med bay. So he was furious. Kita didn't want to face Dr. Kbom right now. So he didn't reply anything.

He looked at the terminal in front of him. The machine had produced about 130 grams of Kenon by now. It was still hard at work. Kita felt really proud of what he had managed to accomplish in this short amount of time. But that hardly mattered anymore.

He knew what he was about to do would probably get him court marshaled and kicked out of the military. Without the backing and the funds from the military, continuing research on this field would be really hard for him, he wasn't even sure humanity was prepared for this knowledge.

The source of his knowledge was still alien. Whoever created the ecosystem of B1 was probably a master of Particle Physics. Their work spoke for itself. There was no doubt that whoever it was, They were really powerful.

Kita wasn't sure that humanity should be allowed to wield this knowledge. He knew what Humans were capable off.

In just the last few decades, Humans had expanded their territory in the galaxy by over 20 times. All of it was done by shedding the blood of the enemy alien empires. Although he wasn't an alien sympathizer, he still didn't like this much unnecessary blood shed.

But this wasn't the main point he was worried about. He was quite aware of the human nature.

Every-time there was a dispute between 2 parties, it would end in chaos. Every war that humans have ever participated in has led to the development of bigger better weapons. Humanity has wielded these weapons against their enemies and won against odds unwinable.

But this has lead to the increase in the individual destructive power of humans. Now the problem was, whenever there was a reason, humanity didn't hesitate to turn these weapons of mass destruction towards each other.

The revolution had made it quite apparent. Humans didn't hesitate to kill each other any less than when they killed aliens if their interests were in question. This was true from the beginning of human civilization and still held true to this day.

Kita knew that the development of a sustainable method of creating anti-matter would lead to the development of Anti-matter weapons sooner or later. It was only a matter of time. It wasn't necessarily a bad thing.

But when the next big war broke out in the human space, these weapons would be turned against each other. Each detonation of an Anti-matter warhead was able to raze entire planets and all life making it unlivable faster than humans could terraform a planet.

As the creator of Anti-matter, he himself would bear all the responsibility of enabling humanity of destruction on such levels.

It wasn't in him to bear this kind of responsibility. He didn't want to enable anyone of destruction of such levels.

It was a bit hypocritical of him when he thought about what he was gonna use the anti-matter for. He laughed at himself for this.

"Heh, I'm in no position to act like a saint myself."

But, Kita had made his decision. This would be the first and last time he'd ever produce Anti-matter. After he had kept his promise, he'd destroy everything related to this from his lab. He'd still hold everything in his head, but there was nothing he could do about it.

So he decided to do something about the things he could. That was the resolution Kita had come to after thinking about the events that'd follow him on the path he was walking.
