"I will not let you escape a second time."

One day, Xuan Shang opens his eyes - and finds himself in the body of Roland Sharr, a disgraced conglomerate heir that lives in the middle of a zombie apocalypse.

Dashing as fast as lightning, the level two zombie arrived at the closest person to it. In one swift motion, the zombie extended its hand to get a hold of the person's head.
Clutching the head like a ball, the zombie smashed it towards the wall.
Boom!
The person's head couldn't endure the pressure and could only burst into a meat paste.
Greedily, the zombie licked the wall's that is sprinkled with some brain meats and juices.
It didn't take long for the level two zombie to finish the whole brain of the person it just killed.
By this time, the escaping people of the two groups had already scattered around to flee.
It was an unspoken rule about this place.
If ever there was a level two zombie and you couldn't contend with it.
Do your best to escape.
Do not escape in groups but escape individually.
If you successfully escape, report to the faction immediately.
ROAR!
The zombie roared in anger seeing his dozens of meals trying to escape.
While it bellowed with rage, it suddenly ducked down and scoop up some pebbles on the cracked ground.
Swoosh! Swoosh!...
Multiple swoosh sounds could be heard as pebbles that flew like a rocket chased behind the fleeing people.
Bodies fell down one after another the moment the rocks penetrated their body. Blood leaked out from the wounds created by the pebbles on their body.
Those who fell down from that attack was the weakest of the group. The stronger ones only flinched a little the moment the pebbles hit them.
The zombie dashed and closed in towards the fallen people. It was just about to open a person's head when it realizes that the other 'meal' was escaping again.
ROAR!
The zombie roared again and chased those people who fleed.
By how fast the zombie is, it didn't take long for their numbers to thin.
The level two zombie killed them one after another.
The zombie grabbed a man's head and brutally smashed it towards the other person on its other hand. The two heads cracked open, as their eyes turned white in an instant.
What happened next was a brutal massacre.
Their weakling group didn't even have the chance to land a blow before their numbers had gone extinct.
The zombie however didn't stop there, there was still another group fleeing in the other direction that it needs to pursue.
From one place to another, from one person to another, the level two zombie's body could be seen anywhere.
Every time its figure reappeared, it would be holding a 'lifeless' body on one of its hands.
The level two zombie didn't leave anyone alive.
The two groups who fought for the Apocalypse Virus's ownership earlier were now wiped out of existence.

"That man is quite lucky!" Nile said with arms crossed on his chest.
He was observing the whole massacre earlier atop this building.
For a few moments, he did have the urge to go and fight with the level two zombie.
Fortunately, the talent, Instant Adapter helped him on holding his urge.
He didn't know how strong the level two zombie is. He couldn't use the 'stats' function on the level two zombie as it is far from his location.
Nile didn't feel anything after seeing the massacre that had unfolded in front of him.
In the first place, it was their fault for making such loud noises. Although he still didn't know the real situation of the town, from that zombie alone, Nile could already guess.
Although he wanted to fight and kill his first level two zombie already, he also knew how dangerous it was. He wanted to retreat first and formulate a plan about how to kill a level two zombie as silent as possible.
Somersaulting in the air, Nile jumped off the high rise building. He transformed his right ring, the other part of the 'Weapon of Change', into a long-claw and stabbed it to the wall.
The friction created between the claw and the wall allowed Nile's body to just slowly descend. On the height of the Fifth floor, he retracted the claw and transformed it back into a ring. His body plummeted to the ground and just as he was about to hit the ground, he somersaulted in the air lessening the speed that he was plummeting to land in front of his two pets, neatly.
The same moment he landed, Croco also moved as fast as lightning towards his back.
One zombie actually noticed Nile jumping off the high rise building. The zombie thought that the person would die the moment it landed on the ground.
The zombie thought that the heavens had blessed it after seeing the body fell from above.
In an instant, the zombie ran towards the location of the falling man. It broke through the window of the second floor of a building and got itself plummeting to the ground.
Boom! Shriek!
A slight explosion echoed followed by a piercing cry as the zombie got up immediately from the fall.
It didn't take long for it to fain its footing. Hurriedly, it ran towards the location where it saw a man fell from the sky.
Unfortunately, before it could reach Nile, its head was already sliced in half without any form of resistance.
Croco's body then gradually emerged from the zombies back with a grin.
Nile turned around and smiled at Croco. He gave the animal a thumbs up followed by a wink, seemingly an action telling that he is impressed.
He was well aware of that zombie that Croco had just killed. He just didn't move as he knew that either Croco or Maximo would be enough to handle the zombie.
The two pets noticed the approaching zombie at the same time but Croco was the first to act.
His body swayed like a snake as he initiated the 'I am a rock' technique that he used on Nile and Maximo before.
Croco let the zombie passed by him before he sneakily followed behind it. And in one swift motion, Croco ended the zombie's life.
Nile turned back his body and walked towards Maximo.
However, it was at this moment that Nile's body suddenly moved and sway to the side.
A figure with a kicking pose brushed past him by a hairsbreadth.
Boom!
Dust's rose and a crater were created as the kicking figure landed on the ground with an explosion.
Nile and Maximo retreated at the same time while Croco dashed towards Nile.
The dust settled and the figure's appearance gradually become clearer.


After getting run over by a truck, Nile finds himself in the body of a man with the same name as himself. 

He soon realized that he had just been transported or transmigrated into another world that was experiencing a Zombie Apocalypse.

Nile was rambling on how dangerous the zombie world is. It turns out that the zombies were evolving, getting stronger every second. 

Nile was already at his wits end when a 'System' butted to his rescue. 

He felt elated as he found out that humans could evolve too. And compared to other humans, his way of evolving was even easier due to the System's help.

Follow Nile as he ventures and comes across different kinds of people and zombies in this Zombie Apocalypse World.

Getting addicted to the notion of becoming stronger. 

He searches for zombies every day to kill and Level Up.

Getting stronger every kill, he felt that farming zombies has never been easier.

After that short speech, the group felt more encouraged and ready to start the new battle. They raised their weapons in the air as if they were celebrating and preparing for the battles they would face today. Then, they ran out into the horde again.

The horde seemed completely dead, all the zombies stood as if they were statues, but when they heard some noise or they smelled of a living being, the zombies began to act intensely looking for the reason. That was what happened when the group that was fighting with Matthew and Bethany were getting closer to the zombies. They seemed to come alive and began to try to devour the cause of their disturbance.

When they finally reached ten meters, the zombies that were ahead of the horde began to run toward the living creatures that were coming toward them. Their eyes were boiling with intense rage, as if anyone who was approaching them were the biggest enemies their lives.

The small part of the zombie horde and the humans then finally collided and began to fight each other; more specifically, the living beings were killing them while they couldn't touch any of the humans.

One of the groups of zombies that had been drawn from the horde were battling a human who wielded a mace. There were thorny vines sticking out of his body. These thorny vines were continually beating and disturbing the movement of the zombies. Although the thorny vines were still not strong enough to kill the zombies, but even the root them still disturbed the already low combat power of the zombies.

The human who was wielding the mace controlled the thorny vines to control the rhythm of the zombies and be able to fight individually with each zombie and thus lessen the danger he faced. Everything was happening normally for this human, when he used the usual tactic and began to kill the zombies. In a moment of the battle, he hit the mace on the leg of a zombie, successfully broke it and then the zombie fell to the ground.

When this human was going to crush the zombie's head with the mace as he always did, a zombie managed to get rid of the vines and ran towards the man and tried to punch him. The man then ignored the zombie he had knocked over and started fighting with the other zombies. Planning to kill the zombie he had crippled last, he used the thorny vines to root the zombie to be able to fight with the other zombies who were trying to get rid of it.

This particular zombie tried to get rid of the thorny vines but failed. It was already difficult for the undead zombie to escape the thorny vines, let alone a zombie without legs, so it was impossible to escape this skill. But, as the zombie reacted instinctively and began to try to escape the skill, the zombie began to feel an intense fury growing in his body. He continued to try to escape the skill for a few minutes as the fury began to grow in his body.

The zombie's body then began to tingle; not that he could feel anything since he was already dead. But, the man who wielded the mace obviously couldn't see this phenomenon. He was still killing the zombies that were trapped in his domain, feeling glad that his skill were getting better and better since it all began.

This man was already at level four, almost leveling to level five. As soon as they eliminated that small group that was drawn from the horde, he would level up again and could evolve his skill to uncommon grade when he put a skill point on it. He already imagined how strong he would be after this and was feeling more and more excited and began to think that he could be the chosen one to guide humanity out of this calamity.

As he felt more and more excited as he killed the zombies, he heard an order from Tom, asking them to retreat. He turned and saw everyone was holding the line and did not need to back down, but decided to obey the order. So, he followed the order, unwilling to risk his life and then began to back away as he killed the zombies that chased him and backed towards the zombie he had arrested to kill later. When he was retreating and killing the zombies, he felt the vines that were behind him breaking. He killed the zombie in front of him and turned horrified for fear of the monster that was behind him and was destroying his vines easily.

When he turned around, he saw an eight foot tall zombie; the zombie's body was extremely muscular and had a pair of red eyes that seemed to contain all the fury of the world running toward him. He then let out a scream as he saw the giant zombie's fist heading toward him and before he knew it,  he burst into a haze of blood. His thorny vines then began to wither and turn to dust.

His terror filled scream frightened the rest of the group. They turned towards the source of the cry they had just heard and saw a giant, muscular zombie covered with blood, standing where the man was once holding a mace.

In a summer morning in the year 2020, was when it all started, the terror, later known as "The Darkness", few believed that this really would happen, for many were conspiracy theory, but when it really came, it took everyone from the most fanatical to the most discredited, but no matter how much people prepared, it wasn't enough for the terror that was to come.

Honestly, even Benjamin would have to admit that freezing his opponent was sort of by chance. 
With the zombie bull’s ability to come back to life and turn his attacks against him; he knew that his battle was not with the bull before him, but the entire ruin. 
Unless he destroyed the entire ruin, there was no point to it.
Luckily, just as the explosion happened, he could sense a strong force that turned his surroundings green. At that moment, he had an epiphany and the idea just popped into his head. 
The zombie bull needed the green light to power it, and the green light needed the zombie bull as a kind of host to use its limitless power. And so, if he were to break the connection between them, wouldn’t that solve everything?
Of course he knew that severing the connection between the zombie bull and the green light would be no easy feat.
Among the ruins, the green light was like air, it was everywhere. The two were also very closely linked. Any attack on either of them was like a ripple effect. And the explosion caused by the ice heap also gave Benjamin a great opportunity. 
After the blast, the surrounding area became like a void, showing that the influence of the green light had been temporarily severed. And for the zombie bull to attack Benjamin, it had to cross into the void.
And Benjamin saw his opportunity.
In that few short seconds, the impact from the explosion made him feel as though he was falling apart. Sharp pain spread from his back and chest and he could smell blood. Before he could get his wits about him, it was like his head was cleared and the only thing going about his head was the sound of the zombie bull’s hooves. 
Twenty meters... ten meters...five meters...
The void that the blast created did not last long, and Benjamin quickly seized his one and only chance. If he failed and the bull gets anywhere near him, the consequences would be unimaginable. 
Even though the thoughts ran through his head, his emotions remained calm. 
He raised his right hand and chanted the spell, and watched as the ice frosted over. It was unbelievable. His water element’s influence was very specific. He wasn’t sure if it would work on the green light, but he hoped, refusing to even entertain the thought. 
When he raised his hand, he didn’t know why but he knew. It would work.
And reality confirmed his hunch.
Once he separated the zombie bull from the outside with ice, even if the void were to disappear, the strange power would be locked out and have no way of forcing its way in. 
The ice that Benjamin conjured was thin, but it was compressed from a bigger layer of ice. The strength of it would shock others. With its own strength, the zombie bull would not be able to escape. It didn’t take long for the green light to leave its eyes, just like a toy car powering down. 
Benjamin let loose a breath.
When he thought back about what he just did, he couldn’t believe that he had the guts to do it. If it failed, he would have been trampled by the hooves.
Just then, pain rushed through different parts of his body, and he almost lost his breezy expression. Usually he kept his cool just like Magneto. 
"Nothing to worry about, it is not moving anymore. You can come see it, this is an enchanted bull."
After greeting the three mages that were still hovering in midair, he hurriedly conjured a healing ball. He placed it on his body one after another, slowly healing himself from the internal injuries he suffered from the blast. 
The three mages looked at each other, but were too afraid to come any closer. Maybe it was because nothing happened, they finally gathered up their courage and slowly came back down to the ground after a long while. And they slowly approached the zombie bull ensconced in ice, their faces filled with awe. 
In the end, they surrounded the bull in amazement. 
"Master Benjamin, what magic did you use? Why can’t it escape?" Tony asked with a look of disbelief on his face. 
Obviously, they tried to use magic to control the zombie bull, but the results must have been devastating. Or else they would not have chosen escape. 
"It’s nothing, just a little trick that I wanted to try." Benjamin’s wounds were almost healed. He stood up and said, "that’s right, I wanted to ask, where did this strange creature come from?"
This creature that could bear the power of the ruins would not have just popped out of nowhere.
Benjamin suspected that the three of them must have found something, or accidentally stepped into a special place, and disturbed the creature. 
"Ah, about that," Tony said with a guilty look on his face, "it is too dangerous here, who knows what other creature will suddenly appear, we should talk about this later."
It was obvious that there was a secret they were not willing to share. 
Benjamin snorted when he heard this and said in a neutral voice, "Alright then, if you can leave you may."
The three of them frowned as Tony asked, "what do you mean?"
Benjamin shrugged as he replied, "nothing, if you want to leave you can leave, I want to stay here a while, so I won’t leave with you."
The three of them looked at Benjamin with stunned expressions. 
After keeping silent for a while, Tony and his companions exchanged glance before he said, "that... if that’s what you want, then we will take our leave first. You should be careful, and leave as soon as possible."
After he said this, the three of them nodded to Benjamin, and went impatiently towards the entrance of the cave without caring about Benjamin’s reaction. They looked just like aunties rushing for a bus.
Benjamin just looked at them coldly as he shook his head.
"Idiots." The System said excitedly when it suddenly appeared, its voice dripping with sarcasm.
Benjamin couldn’t care less about them, and turned towards the zombie bull he wrapped in ice. 
He could sense that the green light was still trying to break through the layer of ice to restore the connection between them. He didn’t know why, but it felt as though the green light was afraid of Benjamin’s control over water. It didn’t viciously attack the layer of ice, it was more of a slow gnawing.  
To keep the layer of ice in place, the amount that Benjamin would use would be less than an anti-magic ball. But by his estimations, he would only be able to last three hours.
In other words, in three hours, the green light would be able to break through the layer of ice and the zombie bull would be able to escape. It would gain its power to not be destroyed, and attack Benjamin again. 
Benjamin could not completely relax.
He had to find a way to leave this place, time was of the essence. 
After giving it some thought, Benjamin decided to use the zombie bull. Even though it looked as if the creature was just a pile of rotting meat and bones, but it was able to host the power of the ruins. To be able to do the unimaginable things the green light wanted, it must have something special about it. 
Or else the statues on the street would be controlled by the green light and attack Benjamin. 
More importantly, Benjamin felt that he could learn of a way to escape from it. 
He laid a hand on the layer of ice and release his spiritual energy, and took control of the zombie bull stuck in the ice. Under his command, sharp knives appeared across the layer of ice, piercing through the coat of the zombie bull and started to perform an autopsy. 
Benjamin knew that an autopsy was not his strong suit but he had no other choice. 
The knives moved across the zombie bull and it didn’t take long before it was cut up into pieces. Benjamin held in his disgust as he leaned forward to examine the pieces.
Unfortunately, he was unable to find anything wrong with it. 
The bull had no internal organs, aside from the rotting flesh around a giant ribcage. It was empty inside, and Benjamin could not find any enchanted jewels or anything else . 
Then how was it able to host the green light?
Benjamin could not think of anything else, he could only conjure another small knife beneath the layer of ice and continued to cut the zombie bull apart to see if he could find anything else.
"I think you should look at its eyes." The System suddenly said.
Benjamin was shocked. 
The System was finally making some sense; this was something really rare!
Despite the ridicule, the System’s words still gave him motivation. Every time the bull started its attack, its eyes will light up with green light. And once the power was used up, the green light disappears, just like the light on Ultraman’s chest. 
Benjamin took control of the knife and cut out its eyeballs, and ran a few tests on them.
He used needles, knives, water bubbles, steam. But the zombie bull’s eyeballs were like steel. No matter what he did there weren’t any changes, as though they were ancient jewels. 
At that moment, Benjamin’s heart thumped.
The key to the question was in this creature!


Kubei was just an ordinary pencil and button pusher working a day job, hating his boss and making horrible speeches when one day he fell asleep after pushing an all-nighter. When he woke up, he was bound to a chair, facing three creepy robed women and in a body way too young and way too weak to be his own. As he slowly came to, he realized that he was no longer in the same universe as he was before. He had teleported to the Kingdom of Helius, where an all-powerful church rules its lands and wages war against the elusive group known only as Mages. Armed with an incredibly cocky neural interface that just won’t shut up and his own sheer wit, our MC will find himself not just fighting to survive, but maybe even something bigger than himself.

An army of silver skeletons clad in eerie black mist is marching on the highway. Looking at the bright blue soul fire in their socket, any living creature will feel the pressure of death lingering in the air. Fortunately right now, only the brainless zombies are attacking this terrifying group.

The grave keeper of the abyss stayed true to their title, armed with their silver shovel couple with their brute force, zombies are bursting into pieces whenever they encounter them.

In the center of the army, two inconspicuous figure are present. One is a very handsome boy in dark robe and a giant knight wielding a broad sword.

This ordinary zombies posed no threat to the group and can't even by pass the first layer of defense. The giant knight waved his sword from time to time producing terrifying sword energy bringing massacre to this zombies.

Adam and his army is walking sideways in this hellish City B. Their step never stop and their brutal march is unimpeded. Even the variant and evolved zombies who developed a little reason stay away from this creatures of the abyss. They can smell it, the stench of death from this skeletons and the powerlessness towards the giant knight.

In this City only one variant zombie is watching this group without the usual fear from afar. On top of the highest building in the city, a male zombie with deep red pupil with a tinge of gold is watching indifferently. He knew that he may not be the match of the marching army but keeping his life is possible.

This variant zombie is a tier 4 advance zombie with the ability to manipulate metals. With it's unmatched ability and power, evolved human or zombie who dare to step inside his territory to challenge him had never succeeded. They are either dead or abolished after fighting with him. But now, a very powerful human is rampaging in his territory and he can't do anything about it. The zombie can only growl in low voice for his dissatisfaction of the situation.

After giving a final look, the zombie jumps from building to building planning to escape the city and establishing his reign in a different area.

When the zombie was gone, Arthus glance to where the variant male zombie had stood weighing whether he should pursue or not. He can feel that in this city, the male zombie posed the greatest threat to his [ lord ]. His tier 4 intermediate power can actually contend with a tier 5 due to his class and bloodline. As an abyss demon, his fighting capability exceeds his rank and can contend or even kill those who are 1 tier above him.

But after careful consideration, he gave up the idea of killing the zombie. The [ lord ] must always be guarded and Arthus' role is the shield and sword of his majesty. Being a shield, he must always stay close to his sovereign.

During this clean up operation, Adam is very happy because after advancing, their hunting time was accelerated and their gain even double if not tripled. Even though normal zombies can only give a miniscule amount of experience as he become stronger, it is better to level up from them than to confront those unknown zombies.

After checking his progress, Adam returned to killing spree but, looking and the minced meat around him, meat become off the menu for him as of the moment,  not that he have any, but in case he do.

" System, how strong am I compared to other evolutionary and awakened that you had mention."

Ding!
" The host can already manage a major base with his current level. But, there are still several people more powerful than the host in this country of Bahran. As for countries outside, the host had no qualification to know as of this moment."

' hmmm--... so this country is Bahran' Adam took note of the information.

Adam's goal in marching the highway is actually to look for a mall. He haven't forgotten yet that he needs supplies to scan with [ infinite production ] and the most needed underwear that he lack. The underwear, clothes, and utensils are the leat needed by survivors in the apocalypse. He is sure that he can find a pair or two in the mall even if it was already looted.

At the roof top of a certain apartment building near a mall, a group of people is looking for a chance to leave and recruit the kid who they saw the other day who can control an army of skeletons.

Gil holding their hand drawn map is analyzing their escape route when suddenly one of the woman in their team who act as the lookout for today ran to him hurriedly.

" Captain, he's here! " said the woman to Gil.

" The kid? " Gil looked up, shocked that the person that they are supposed to look for is coming towards where they were.

He stand up and ran towards the edge of the rooftop along with the woman. In there they saw what is unbelievable in their life, an army leisurely hacking zombies left and right is on the highway. Even the variant and evolved zombie they painstakingly avoided are hacked to death becoming minced meat in the process.

" Prepare to go down to meet him. No one is allowed to say anything stupid. Teenagers are very fickle and hard headed, especially those who possess powerful abilities. " Gil said to his team who also gathered around him to see the kid in killing spree.

" If worst comes to worst, prepare to escape and bring the information to the base." Gil added.

' I only hope the kid is reasonable and not overbearing. Wait? When did he become so good-looking and different. nah! I might have seen it wrong.'

Gathering all their things, the team were ready to go. In front was the tier 1 evolver, Gil, to make a breakthrough in case of siege. Beside him are the middle aged man Jackson and 2 other men. At the back are the two woman of the team.

With Gil's signal they started to move down the rooftop of the building which they had cleared out of zombies.

They decapitate all the zombies they had met along the way as they started to sprint towards the area where Adam was. Some zombies had seen this group and began a frantic chase of the team. Thankfully, no evolved or variant zombies had chased them because all of these zombies already escape the vicinity where Adam was.

Four days had passed since the madness began. 
Benji was isolated inside his apartment without any electricity. 
He and Adam spent the time observing the streets and the behaviour of the zombies. That's what they decided to call them.
The zombies started to slow down after two days. They became passive without human targets, roaming aimlessly through the streets.

They concluded some things from their observations through the past 4 days.
The zombies were dumb, like animals. But they were faster and stronger than the average human, a single bite would seal your fate. Everyone would transform into a zombie not even 3 minutes after being bitten. 
Even a scratch was enough, just like in the movies.
'There is nothing more I can do...I need to get going if I don't want to starve to death...'
Benji went to his small store room, unlocking a metal chest.
He stared at the opened chest for some time, 'I never thought that I would open it again...'

His old stuff from his time in the German Force were stored inside that chest.
Benji began to change his clothes, putting on his black boots, combat trousers and pulled his military trench coat over his dark-blue hoodie.
[This is it Benji, we are back in the game!] Spoke Adam in glee.
Benji wasn't finished, he pushed a hidden button on the side of the chest.
A clicking sound echoed out and the bottom of the chest lifted itself up, revealing a sharp combat knife made of black metal.
Benji equipped it quickly, fixing it at the side of his trousers.

He could land in prison if the police found him with that knife, it was illegal in Germany.
[Well, that would only be the case before the chaos started, the police should have their hands full to clear the mess...]
He picked up his backpack in which he had a bit food, water and other things stored.
Benji looked at the door which lead to the starway, he had already unblocked it.
 
He sensed his heart beating faster, he found himself becoming excited.
'Strange, didn't I give up on life? Now I'm struggling to stay alive...' His mixed feelings crashed against each other, with the excitement pushing his darkness away.
[That's how it is, we are fighters! No zombie scum can take us down!]
He couldn't help but lick his lips, a smile appeared on his once emotionless face.
Benji pulled the hood over his head before turning the door handle.
'Do or die!' Thought Benji.
[Amen, brother! It's do or die!] Shouted Adam excited.

He checked the stairway by sticking out his head.
Everywhere was blood, on the floor, one the walls and on the stairs.
Benji squinted his eyes, 'So much blood but no corpses...'
[They should have turned into zombies, be careful!] Commented Adam.
Benji nodded, taking out his combat knife as he began to walk down the stairs.
His expression turned serious, focusing solely on his senses while taking every step with uttermost care.

It took him 10 minutes till he reached the street. He could already feel that keeping up his focus drained his mental stamina.
'Now comes the really difficult part.' Benji checked his watch, it was past 2 pm.
Benji bent down and walked quickly from one car to the other, taking cover behind them.
He saw 4 zombies slowly roaming through the street like lost kids.
[Four f*ckers!]
Benji checked his back behind him, just to be sure before he dashed to the next car.

'They didn't sense me, so far so good!' Thought Benji while peeking at them through the carglass.
He was currently in the south-west part of Dortmund and needed to go to all the way to the north.
His mother's place was the only safe spot he knew that he could get in.
'Mom...' 
[Forget that witch, did you forget what she did to us?] Cursed Adam as he showed his hatred towards their mother.
Benji shook his head, he needed to stay focused.
Slowly crouching forwards to the front of the red car.
It was then that the male zombie that was nearest to him seemed to pick something up, it froze on the spot, beginning to sniff around.

'You gotta be kidding me! It can smell me?' Cursed Benji while crouching back.
[Damn! We didn't notice that when we observed them!]
The zombie turned towards Benji's direction, slowly walking to the red car.
It continued to sniff around, arriving at the spot in front of the car. It began to take a deeper amount of air through its nose. It began to walk towards the back of the car.

It could smell it! The prey should be near! It began to walk faster towards the back of the car.
It's violent instincts began to kick in, ready to sink its teeth into fresh flesh and feed!
It's red eyes trembled violently and just as it was about to pounce on its prey...

[Kill and run!]
A black combat knife found itself buried inside its head!
It roared weakly with unwillingness before falling on the ground like a puppet which got its strings cut off.
Benji reacted fast, he had no more time, starting to sprint with everything he had.
It was the right decision because he heard the roaring sounds of the other 3 zombies behind his back. 
They also sprinted madly after him.
'My knife...' Thought Benji.
[Forget the knife, run!]
Benji regretted it that he couldn't retrieve his knife but he had no other choice the zombies were too close to him.

He sprinted through the street, hearing the roaring sounds coming closer.
'Jesus why are they so fast?'
[Stay focused, RUN FASTER!] Cursed Adam inside his mind.
Benji knew this area well and sprinted into a small alley, where he climbed over a fence.
He found himself inside a little garden behind an apartment building.
Delight flooded him when he saw that nothing had changed since he saw it a few weeks ago.
[Big chance brother!] Adam grew excited.
Benji picked up a metal pipe that was lying on the ground before he continued to sprint towards the fire escape.

The zombies had just climbed over the fence when they noticed Benji climbing up the fire escape to the first floor.
They roared out like savages, following him and beginning to climb up the fire escape.
Benji didn't continue to escape upwards, he turned around instead, with a nasty smile plastered on his face that was hidden under the hood.

[Role changed stupid f*ckers!]
Benji smashed the metal pipe violently on the head of the first zombie that was climbing up the fire escape. It howled in pain, losing its grip, falling 4 meters down on the ground, twitching a few times.
The other two zombies behind it didn't realize that they were at a disadvantageous position.
They kept climbing up ignoring what happened to their mate, not even thinking that the same thing could happen to them.

Both zombies fell hard on the ground. Benji was still smiling.
[Just like we thought, they are stupid beyond help!]
"Yeah..." Agreed Benji.
One of the zombies stood slowly up, it didn't rest at all continuing to climb the fire escape up.
Benji could only shake his head watching it, 'Let me release you from your suffering!'
[That's the Benji I know haha! Not the depressed waste haha] Laughed Adam happily.
Benji ignored Adam, taking a hitting stance, waiting for it to climb up so he could smash it's head again.
There was already blood leaking out from its wound.
The second hit was too much for the head of the zombie, it cracked open like a watermelon.

Benji breathed finally out.
A roar suddenly penetrated the air.
[Holy sh*t! That scared me...] Cursed Adam.
That roar also scared the sh*t out of Benji, he looked up the fire escape.
There was a female zombie climbing out from an opened window of an apartment on the second floor. It's eyes fixated on Benji, rushing down the fire escape.

Benji gritted his teeth hard, taking a hitting stance again.
'I need to knock her down at the right time, I can't get myself bitten or scratched!'
[You got this, we have done this a ton of times in the army.] Spoke Adam with a soothing voice.
The female zombie just arrived at the first floor of the fire escape, pouncing at him.
His whole body relaxed, his eyes wide open, not daring to even blink.
His focus reached its peak in this situation.
He looked like a MLB Hitter waiting for the game deciding pitch.

[NOW!]
"NOW!" Shouted Adam and Benji at the same time.
His body began to move, his muscles started roaring inwards, like a proud beast that was finally unleashed into the world after years of prison.
A loud dull sound echoed out...
A perfect hit, right on the left side of its head.
The female zombie lost instantly its balance, starting to flip over when it fell down the fire escape. It landed with its head right on the ground, giving it the rest.

Benji was done, he leaned on the fire escape, sweating.
'That was close, but...' He glanced down. 'We did pretty damn well!'
[Yeah, we are finally back in the business baby! You need to get our body back to shape and we will kill the zombies like chickens!]
Benji's face twitched when he noticed that two of the zombies were still moving.

The metal pipe was already curved, tainted with blood and brain matters.
'So disgusting! I guess it's enough to finish them off.'
Benji arrived beside the zombies that still tried to crawl towards him, their red eyes full of brutality, trembling violently.
He took a deep breath before starting to smash down on their heads.
[Kill them! Don't need to hold back anymore! The world is done! KILL IT!] Shouted Adam.
"Die, die, die, DIE!"

He fell into a violent state, letting loose of all his pent up emotions as he kept smashing the metal pipe down, again, again and again.
Benji finally stopped his violent beating when he was out of steam.

He fell out of breath on the ground.
[What's that?] Asked Adam.
Benji was still catching his breath, "What's what?"

Benji, full name Benjamin Krone, is a depressive waste who plays video games all the time. 
He has no direction in life, and to make matters worse, there is also Adam, the voice in his head that is always there to annoy him...

But that all changed when "Doomsday" arrived.

No one knew exactly how many people died. A lethal virus that transformed most into undead beasts, and the few who resisted struggled to stay human.

In a world wrought with zombies, mutants and superpowers, Benji finds the post-apocalyptic battlegrounds a bit more exciting than a Friday night of ‘Grand Theft Auto’.

Zombie after zombie fell. Released from the horde's control but with their minds destroyed, they fell where they stood, becoming a mountain of entangled limbs. A battle raged over them as Carmen's black mist slammed against the collective, giving and taking. 
Everything else but survival and the destruction of her enemy faded into the back of Carmen's mind. She saw nothing but the bodies of zombies and the writhing black mist.
Consume!
She opened her mouth and sank her teeth into the fallen zombie before her, absorbing its remaining undead mana. Without bothering to process it and make it hers, she threw it out as black mist like a shield. It was incredibly wasteful, but she was willing to do anything to dampen the mist's mental onslaught.
Consume! Join!
She couldn't kill the zombies fast enough. She couldn't even tell which thoughts were hers and which ones were planted into her mind by the horde collective.
"Ahhh!" A hoarse cry escaped from Carmen's throat.
If this continues, all her hard work, everything she's worked toward this past week will… 
What was the point of becoming a zombie knight if she became mindless? She needed this strength to cleanse the Church.
Something had to change! Squeezing out every bit of power and will she had left with a scream, she drew most of her power back into her own body, fortifying her mental defenses, leaving only a token amount still outside to fight against the horde's mist. 
It was meant to delay the inevitable in a time when every second count.
Although her mental defenses didn't work perfectly against the mental spears, it still slowed the speed that her thoughts were being taken over.
Carmen didn't want to admit it, but she was still no match against the combined might of the gem of control and the zombies under its command. She had to escape first. Escape, and then strike back on her own terms, taking down the zombies one by one… 
If she could just escape… 
Slowly, she rose to her feet. The immobilization command was totally gone now, worn away when the gem attacked her. 
Carmen flexed her fingers and swung her arm, feeling rotten flesh easily part as her nails clawed through a nearby zombie's neck. But that alone wasn't fatal. 
The zombie lurched as its head tilted back, attached to its shoulders by a few muscles and skin. It did not heal. Instead, it raised the pickaxe in its hands and slammed it toward Carmen.
The tip of the pickaxe buried itself into Carmen's shoulder.
Destroy. No, I must…survive. Escape.
She ripped the pickaxe from her shoulder and threw it away. The pick spun in the air until it slammed into the ceiling, the tip burying in the stone, 
With the weapon in her way gone, Carmen punched the zombie in the chest and sent it crashing backwards into the crowd, clearing a way for her escape.

As the storm of darkness surged, writhing and colliding with each other, Fleur took a step back, shivering. She took another without realizing it, and the back of her shoe caught on the uneven surface of the ground. 
She fell hard on her butt, but the pain almost didn't register as she continued to stare at the battle raging before her and the black mist pouring endlessly from the ruby in her hands.
"What the hell is happening?"
One moment she had the zombie girl surrounded by the zombies still under her command, but the next the girl was shouting something about a lesson. And before she realized what was going on, the whole situation devolved until it turned into this mess.
The gem in her hand was useless now. The commands she gave it didn't work. The zombies under its control endlessly attacked the zombie girl even when she tried to get them to stop.
For some reason, she didn't really want to see the zombie girl dead. Fleur hadn't seen many zombies in her life, and it was her first time meeting one that could talk.
The zombie girl was interesting. She talked as if she had decades of experience and she sounded knowledgeable—almost as knowledgeable as Father Arvel. Were all higher undead like that girl?
She watched as the spiraling dark storm grew, filling up the interior of the cavern, enveloping the crush of zombies in the center of the open space. Her holy magic seemed so meager in the face of the two colliding undead forces. 
At first, the two forces were evenly matched, but slowly, one of them began to overwhelm the other. Fleur sensed that the losing side carried a trace of that zombie girl's personality, while the stronger side matched the feel of undead mana coming from the gem in her hands.
At this rate, the zombie girl will probably die.
"I should go…" 
Fleur stood up and dusted off her cloak. She turned to leave, but she hesitated at the entrance and turned back around. "No, I should at least watch until the end."
The undead force of the gem grew stronger and stronger as more energy flowed endlessly from the gem. Fleur lifted the gem of control high up in the air as if it would help the gem win its battle. As if emboldened by her action, the flow of power from the ruby increased.
"How much longer will this take?" she muttered. From the way Fleur saw it, the zombie girl was just barely hanging on. The problem is, she had been "just barely hanging on" for the past minute already. Fleur had no idea how the girl was so persistent.
"What the hell do you mean, 'how much longer'? What the hell did you do with my zombies?"
Fleur jumped a rough hand grabbed her shoulder, and the owner of the hand began to shout in her ear. "What the hell is going on here?!"
Fleur felt a sense of deja vu, but she didn't dwell on it. Brushing off the hand on her shoulder, she whirled around to face the stout man who stood no higher than she did. "Orlog! I thought I told you to stay up on the surface?"
Orlog spat on the ground. "Like hell I will when all my zombies abandoned their work and marched down. Don't you know I'm on a timer? I'd better be compensated for this!"
"Don't worry, you will," Fleur said. She turned away from him to watch the battle.
Orlog followed her gaze before he stomped around and stood right in her face, planting his feet with his arms on his hips. "I'd better! Now tell me what's going on. You just came up to me and asked me to give you the gem without explaining anything!"
"Time was of essence." She stepped to the side so that Orlog's face wasn't in her way. "The zombie girl seemed to be evolving into something stronger so I needed the other zombies as a backup in case I couldn't kill her alone."
"And where are they now?"
Instead of answering him, Fleur tilted her head toward the storm. She could only imagine the ruckus that Orlog will kick up if she told him directly. Here was a man that was unwilling to lose a single zombie to her Purification even if he was going to be compensated for it.
Orlog turned to look at the dark storm.
Now that Fleur thought about it, didn't she have a chance to kill the zombie the first day she was at the mine?
She had been about to purify her to put the girl out of her misery, but Orlog had stopped her. If only she had gone ahead and unleashed the spell, damned be the consequences, then things wouldn't have escalated to this extent.
She glared at the short man before she scoffed and went back to observing the battle raging before her. It's been so long and the zombie girl was still hanging on by the skin of her teeth.
Although the storm hid much of it, Fleur still saw hints of zombies here and there. If she could see it, Orlog could as well.
The man turned back to her with a glare. "Those are my zombies! Get them back!"
"I can't," Fleur said. As the man was about to protest, she stuck out her hand. In her grip was the red gem of control, still billowing black mist. "But you're welcome to try if you want."
Orlog blanched and backed away. "Now don't get smart with me, missy! I—"
"Wait, look!" Fleur cut off his words, pointing at the storm. Was it just her, or was the mist subsiding? Did the zombie girl finally lose?
The mist provided no answers. Instead, something flew out of the mist, too fast to track. The object slammed into the ceiling of the cave, burying itself deeply in the rock. "That was way too fast," she muttered. If that thing had been thrown her way… 
An instant later, a huge number of bodies exploded from the mist, sent flying. A small shape shot out from the mist, her long hair trailing behind her.
It was the zombie girl. She was about to escape!
Fleur rushed to raise the gem of control in her hands. Even though it didn't work, the action had been instinctive at this point. Alone, she had no hope of stopping the girl's escape. Only the gem's control over its undead provided a chance.
She fumbled it as she raised it, almost dropping the gem if not for its chains wrapped around her hand. She held it up high. "Stop!"
At her shout, the gem glowed red. The light was brighter than ever before, bathing the room in a bloody light.
The figure of the zombie girl, nothing but a blur now, charged toward Fleur and the entrance behind her. Time seemed to slow down; sounds became muffled, as if Fleur was underwater. A loud crack, crisp and clear, cut through that slowed time.
In that instant, time resumed. The gem in Fleur's hand exploded into countless shards. From within the gem, a cloud of black mist blew outwards, swallowing Fleur's hand before spreading and filling the cavern in an instant.
"Ahhh!" Fleur screamed. A mind-numbing chill struck up her arm like a bolt of cold lightning. At the same time, a golden radiance covered her, pushing back against the black mist of the gem. The golden radiance froze all that it touched, as if time had stopped for the cave. Fleur dropped to her knees, clutching her arm.
Tears streamed down her face. "It hurts…it hurts!"
Through the tears, she tried to see what happened to her arm. The sight almost stopped her heart cold. The black mist corroded the sleeves of her robe and cloak all the way up to just above the elbow of her right arm. It was the arm she had used to raise the gem of control.
Only, the arm wasn't her's anymore. In its place, a mass of putrid, warped purple flesh writhed. Five fat protrusions sprouted at the end of the swollen mass, ending in sharp, wicked claws.
Bile rose up in Fleur's throat and she doubled over, vomiting on the ground. "Urgh."
Once wasn't enough and she knelt there as tremors shook her body, with her forehead against the ground. "My arm…it's gone. That's not my arm." The sheer pain she felt from it was almost unbearable—she wanted to just curl up and scream. Dying would be better. 
But as an acolyte of the Church, she couldn't. She still had to report what had happened back to the Father. No matter what. She.
Where was Orlog? He would be the witness.
He was right in front of her a moment ago, but she couldn't see him.
Fleur lifted her head and looked around. For a moment, she couldn't find him, missing what was right in front of her, but finally she saw it. A twisted blob of purple flesh, bloated like a drowned corpse. It trembled as if alive, but Fleur felt the distinctive power of undeath from it. Just like her arm.
Resisting the urge to vomit again, she held up her arm.
Blinking back tears, she raised her left hand, gathering a ball of holy energy with the meager amount of mana she had left. "Purification," she whispered.
A ray of light that should have been warm and conveyed a feeling of safety burst from the ball and covered her undead arm. Instead, it burned—burned like she stuck her hands into a bonfire. 
She tasted copper as she bit through her bottom lip. Before her wide eyes, her arm disappeared, melting away in the light as if nothing had ever been there. The holy light closed the wound on her arm where the rotted flesh had been connected. The flesh looked melted.
Trying hard to not cry again, Fleur looked away to survey the rest of the cave. What had happened after the gem exploded, and what was that golden light? Why was she spared when Orlog died?
The cavern was clear of black mist. Fleur was so used to seeing the black mist obscuring the rest of the cavern's interior that for a moment, the clarity gave her pause. 
Shards of the shattered ruby hung in the air above her, suspended by some mysterious force. When she touched one, it fell to the ground. The pile of zombies in the center of the cavern didn't move. Except for her, the whole room seemed frozen in time. 
"The amulet," she realized. It was the work of the amulet Father Arvel gave her. When the gem broke through her shield and desecrated her arm, the amulet activated and pulsed a massive amount of holy energy through the room, freezing everything that carried the gem's power, including the shards of ruby and the zombies.
What about the zombie girl?
Fleur looked behind her. The girl lying prone, right at the entrance. She staggered to her feet and walked over to her. Her dazed mind managed to remember her mentor's instructions. Fishing the amulet that the Father gave her from her pouch, she placed it in the girl's hand.
A golden light emanated from the gem and expanded to enclose the girl in a glowing bubble, sealing her within.
When the bubble stopped growing, time resumed. A moan sounded from the zombies in the center of the cavern, sending shivers down Fleur's spine. Almost a hundred pairs of eyes trained on Fleur all at once—even the blob of flesh that used to be Orlog staggered to its feet. 
Without the gem keeping the zombies under control, they were wild undead. They listened to no one.
Fleur stood up, backing away. This time, she did not trip. As the zombies began howling, she turned and ran up the tunnels.

The holy knight Carmen never questioned his beliefs, even while he laid dying at the hands of a vampire. But death would not be the end for him. When Carmen next woke up, he found himself "alive" once again in the body of an animated corpse—a zombie—that was forced to slave away in the mines of a human kingdom.

As a proud, former knight, Carmen could not allow this wretched practice to continue. He must find a way to escape, regain his body and status, and uncover the truth. 

The world was not as it seemed, and perhaps he—now a she—had lived a life of lies.

As Lin Qiao thought, this level-five zombie wasn't only strong physically, but also had a super power. No wonder level-five superpowered human beings were no match for the zombies at this level, because average physical attacks could hardly harm them!
This time, Lin Qiao wouldn't have been able to do any harm to the level-five zombie leader if her fingernails hadn't upgraded to release the sharp air blades. 
After telling Xie Dong to retreat by using a hand signal, Lin Qiao turned and leaped away. In the next moment, a palm-wide ice blade pierced into the ground along with waves of cold air, but didn't melt right away. 
The ice blades created by level-five superpowered human beings couldn't pierce into the ground, but would only shatter into pieces against the ground. However, this level-five zombie's ice blade managed to cut into the ground; although it did not go too deep, it had shown its powerfulness nevertheless. 
Therefore, Lin Qiao turned and ran immediately. She also tried to draw the zombie leader away and allow Xie Dong to run by himself, in case it lost its temper and decided to vent its anger on him. 
The zombie leader speeded up to chase after her right away on seeing its ice blade miss her. 
Lin Qiao didn't panic under the great pressure given by the zombie leader. Instead, she raised her speed and calmly ran toward the woods. She seemed to be a little unreliable normally, but every time in a serious action, her mind would become very clear and rational, without giving her any chance to be flustered. 
Lin Qiao obtained this good mental quality through her training in the army, and it had become a part of her instincts. The more dangerous the situation was, the calmer she would be. 
Sensing the zombie leader chasing after her like a cheetah, she ran toward the area with more obstacles on purpose. The woods, as well as places with tall grasses and stone riprap could be included in her escape route. Even though she had been choosing these difficult areas particularly, nothing had impeded her at all. On the contrary, she was running as swiftly and briskly as a mouse, and even seemed to be quite enjoying it. 
The zombie leader following behind Lin Qiao had its eyesight blocked by the surrounding woods and grasses. And because it was really angry at the moment, it hadn't been concentrating to sense her moves. 
Once it entered the woods area, it generated a wave of freezing wind and ice blades to sweep across the surrounding plants. 
Ordinary human beings wouldn't dare to enter any woods area, but zombies weren't afraid of the potential dangers in there, because those could barely harm them. 
Before entering the woods, the zombie leader was moving at a very high speed, but it slowed down by thirty percent once it did, as the surrounding obstacles blocked its eyesight. Then, it sensed that Lin Qiao was running further and further away, so it turned anxious. 
However, it had its own solution, which was leaping high up. It directly leaped to the top of a tall tree, then stood high and found the direction which Lin Qiao was moving in. After that, it nimbly jumped to the top of another tree like a monkey. 
Lin Qiao sensed the zombie leader's vibe, so she turned back to glance at it. Then, she found that the zombie leader had climbed onto a tree, which meant that the situation had started turning against her. 
She didn't stop, but continued running forward. When she ran past a large rock, she suddenly paused, turned around, and twisted her body, then rolled to one side. 
Following a series of puffing noises, a small wave of ice thorns fiercely landed where Lin Qiao was a moment ago. The finger-thick ice thorns fell on the ground and the rock. The ones that hit the rock shattered it into pieces, and the rest pierced straight into the ground. 
Lin Qiao quickly glanced at those ice thorns before she turned and continued running. Those ice thorns wouldn't cause any pain of they hit her, but would pierce very deep into her body. She didn't want tens of deep holes in her already-broken body, because she would look intolerably ugly that way! Furthermore, those holes wouldn't be able to heal! She was already ugly enough, and if she got even uglier… In fact, she couldn't think of any bad effects of being uglier. 
Since she was now a horrible-looking zombie, she couldn't possibly find anyone to marry her, could she? Who would dare to marry her? Should she get a zombie husband? She didn't think so! She had way better taste than that!
Even at such a dangerous moment, Lin Qiao could think of the boring questions such as marrying someone. If the zombie leader that had been chasing behind her knew what she was thinking, it would definitely have been infuriated. 
She rolled on the ground again to dodge another attack. Once she stood up, she heard a series of swishing noise from above her head. So, she squatted back down without even taking a glance where the noise came from.
Right after she bent her waist, the zombie leader leaped across her head, but was a little too high above her. Its claws failed to touch Lin Qiao's head, only grabbing the air. 
"Roar!" Failing to hit the target again, the zombie leader flipped in the air before landing on the ground, then let out a wave of raging roar toward her. 
Lin Qiao looked at its chest and found that the few wounds caused by her had already been frozen by a white layer of ice. 
'Damn! It even knows how to dress its wounds!' 
At that point, the zombie leader realized that its roars were ineffective on Lin Qiao, and this wasn't the first time for that to happen. The zombie leader was able to control other lower level zombies, but it couldn't figure out why this one could always ignore it.
