Just writing a three thousand word short story every weekend to evolve my own writing skills, enjoy and judge, please.

Ethan Shawn's POV
"Have you published the next part of your story yet?"
I was picking up my bag which was on the floor when Claire asked me about my story. School was over for the day and I was just getting ready to go home when my friend Claire came over and asked me if I published my story yet.
"Oh, Claire, I didn't notice you. Yes, I just published it last week." I smiled at her as I picked up the small pieces of paper which fell from my bag. I throw pieces of paper at the top of my bag when I'm bored, what else am I supposed to do to pass the time? I can't talk to Claire because she's in a different section than me.
"How many reads did it get?" Claire said as she sat on one of the tables and started chewing a gum. Are you even a girl? I mean the way you sit is not lady like, I get that you are one of the tough girls at school but be a bit lady like. Know what? I'm not going to focus on the way she acts, I'm just going to let her be. That's her life anyway, I won't ruin her fun.
"It got to about 5 reads." I replied as I picked up the last piece of paper.
"Only 5?"
"Yeah. By the way, how was it?"
"How was what?"
"My story, how was the new update? Did I do good?"
"Oh, I didn't know that you already updated it."
I was about to put on my bag but I stopped and I looked at Claire. "You didn't know?"
"Well how was I supposed to know if you don't inform your readers that you have already published the next part of your story? Why don't you announce your story anyway?"
"What do you mean?" I asked as I began walking outside the door and Claire followed me. Me and Claire walk home together, even though she is part of a group in school, she still likes walking home with me, she says that the atmosphere with me hits different than that of the atmosphere with her group.
"I mean what I mean dummy. Your stories are great, but they don't have any audience so really they're just going to waste."
"Your point is?"
"What I mean is, you should tell people about your story, you should endorse it. Your story needs to have great audiences."
"I don't think endorse is the right word you are looking for."
"Whatever word it is that I am looking for, I'm pretty sure that it's endorse, so shut up and endorse your stories." Claire said as she spit out the gum she was chewing and started chewing another one. How is her jaw still working?
"Well, that's the thing, I want people to see and read my stories its just, I don't know how."
"Are you even listening to me? I just literally said what you need to do, you need to endorse them!"
"Again, endorse is not the correct term!"
"Endorse them!" Claire kept on forcing that the term endorse is the term she is looking for, it's not! And if you ask me what is the correct term, I don't know it.
"I can't, okay? I'm shy."
"What?" Claire looked at me with this expression, the most annoyed expression in the world is plastered on Claire's face right now.
"I'm shy, I feel like I'm bothering someone whenever I'm promoting my stories. I feel like I'm disturbing people whenever I ask them to read and support my stories. I'm scared." It's true, I don't have the courage to tell people to support and read my story because I'm scared, when I'm about to send a link to my story to someone, I can't seem to send it. Thoughts of me annoying people and asking too much attention comes to my mind, stopping me from sending the link to my stories.
"You're scared?" Claire asked as she kept looking at me.
"Yeah, I'm scared that people will think of me like an attention seeker, I'm scared that people will say that I lack attention that I need to force people to read my stories."
"Well how will your stories be known if you don't even tell them to people?"
"I don't know. I'll just sit around and do nothing, I guess? Hoping that someone famous will read it and give my story a shoutout or something."
Claire just looked at me, again, with the most annoyed look on her face. I can tell that one more word which she doesn't like comes out from my mouth, she'll kill me.
"You do know that there is no way that that will happen to someone, right? And if it will and/or does happen, there's just a small chance that your story is the one story that that famous person is reading. Little to no chance that that will happen." Listening to what Claire said made my heart get broke. I know that that won't happen, but still, I hoped for it to happen one day.
"Well, a guy can dream right?"
"You're right, but if it happens, chances are you are already done with writing."
"Done with writing?"
"Yeah, like when you get old and you have a job. Chances are you already stopped writing and already started working."
I took a moment and gave a thought to what Claire said. Why am I writing again? What's the purpose of writing my stories if no one ever reads them?
I stopped and looked at Claire.
"What's wrong?" Claire asked as she looked back at me.
"What do I need to do to get more readers?"
Claire smiled as she gave me a pat on the back. "That's the spirit! Now, what you need to do is go to every social media platform you know, and start sharing and posting your stories! Readers will come in overnight!"
I took Claire's advice and did what she did. I was hesitant at first, I was scared that people will see me as an attention seeker. It took me 15 minutes to get the courage, but when I got the courage, I posted on every social media I know of.
A few days passed and I checked how many readers I got. I felt my heart being shattered at the sight. The number of my readers stayed the same, well, not the same, I mean I received a few more reads, from 5 reads it went to 9 reads. I'm happy that new people read my story, and I'm thankful for that, but there's something in my heart, like I expected for big numbers, but I didn't get what I expected.
I took deep breathes while I lay down on my bed, thinking if I should keep writing or not. I mean, what's the point in making stories if no one even reads them?
I kept taking deep breathes, trying my best to look on the bright side.
"Why did I start writing? What was the reason why I started writing in the first place?" I asked myself as I stared at the ceiling of my room.
I closed my eyes trying to think why I wrote stories. Minutes passed by and I was still trying to remember the reason why I started writing, then it finally hit me.
I started writing not because I wanted to be famous, I wrote stories not because I wanted to have many readers or something. But I started writing so that I could share my feelings with other people, I started writing because it gave me joy, it made me happy whenever I write stories. I didn't write because I wanted to be famous, but I started writing because I wanted to be happy.
That was the reason why I started writing stories. I stood up from my bed and went toward my desk and started writing stories, not thinking about who will read it. I wrote stories not thinking if someone will see or read it, I didn't think about who or how many people will read my story, I just wrote my story knowing that I'm happy, with or without readers.

This book is a compilation of different stories ranging from 2 to 5 parts. When one story has ended, another story will begin.

I know this is a joke fanfiction but I'll put it here anyways.

I'm sorry that you have to hear this but I won't be making any future chapters for now.


I'm 15. I can't make money not unless I find a job, and I can't find a job not unless I finish stupid highschool.


A few days ago, I was both doing school and writing, my parents are starting to threaten me that if I don't get a job, I'll rot.

They will feed me until I hit 18 but that's about it.


If I become 18. I will just be sad.

I have to do something so that I won't have to live in the streets. So that's why I'm making the decision today to stop writing.

For God's sake I might permanently stop.


I'm in highschool and I'm failing.

I need to finish school and pass, otherwise I'm going to live in the streets and possibly slowly die. 


I need a job in the future so I can feed myself and do what I want, but I cannot do that right now. So in order for me to focus on school more.


I will stop doing what I love, that's writing and drawing, and just focus it all on school.


I won't be posting any more stories not until I finish school or I find a way to make income on doing what I love and possibly make more likeable content for you folks.


I was so determined to write more bizzare stories. You may not believe this but I can think of a couple different stories with different genres.  Half of them I already admire.


One of them is called "Maids Play."

It's a story about a staggering butler trying to live a life in a mansion, he always gets belittled and mistreated until he was eventually murdered by one of the butlers in the mansion for being "useless."


He was reincarnated in another world where it's a kingdom.

He was found by some people and he looked like a maid so he was dragged to the kingdoms castle where he met the king of the kingdom.


Everyone thinks he is a maid but he explained that he is a butler. The kingdom doesn't have a clue on what butlers are or what they do, but the king is sure that he is like a maid and he was offered to work in the kingdom.


The protagonist has no choice to accept so he can try to live a life.

He accepted and then he was welcomed by two maids who will change his directions in life, it's either going to be heaven or hell.


That's one of the future stories I plan on writing.

I really like to write it and I really hope in the future everyone likes it, so as my future stories I'm planning to make.


Anyways to sum it all up.


I won't be writing more stories or chapters, until I finish highschool and find a job and get money and once that is done.


I'm going to start writing stories again, but I'm going to think that I already lost my talent for writing then.

So I have to make plans in a notebook so I won't forget.

I hope.


I have two plans though.

Number 1: being that I stop writing and focus on school so I can have a job, I might take college, but I'm not interested in college.


Number 2: is support from you folks.

I can keep on writing and continue drawing, until I get good at it.

I have no free time. I'm serious, me and my family are trying to live a life and I'm just trying to help them by trying to finish highschool and get a job.


And if I do have free time, that free time always goes to try and help my family do chores and stuff.

I will see if someone actually likes me time to time but if no one likes me and sees me as a stupid kid just trying to beg for money, that's fair. 


I think I'm a stupid degenerate who tries to write for money, even though sometimes I write for fun.

I heard a voice from my dreams. It was a girl-- longing for comfort and warmth.
I woke up with broken brushes, messy canvas, and empty bottles of pills. As my eyes land upon the other side of the cold window-- I saw something different from what I've seen before.
I saw something catastrophic.
Something depressive.
Something darker.

Author's first notes:

I've started writing stories since I was a kid, the same time I learned how to draw. Back then, I thought of writing as just one of my hobbies because I really more into drawing stuff than writing stories. I even made a comic once but never made sense due to lacking plotlines and other stuff [laughs at cringe]. Then when in high school, that's where I kinda(?) take it seriously-- but it still sucks and cringey by the way. Most of the time before, I always write horror stories, especially ZOMBIES-- I have this UNDYING love of the Zombie genre. Night of the Living Dead (1990 remake), Dawn of the Dead (2004 remake), and of course, one of the best zombie stories I've ever dive into was The Walking Dead (comic). To me, Night of the Living Dead restores the classic movie and innovates it at the time, and I love it. The Walking Dead set the bar high for the zombie genre, and Dawn of The Dead introduces me to the running zombies (thanks to Zack Snyder), which scared me more than the walking ones. Those films, books, and comics were my inspirations to write this novel (which will have some references *wink wink*).
2 years ago, also in high school, I'm planning to make a graphic novel with the same title as this. Well since I suck at writing stories, the story of the scrapped Dead on Arrival story was like a replica of Telltale's The Walking Dead [laughs at cringe again]-- but months later I threw it all away because I don't want it to feel like a replica of something, so I've waited for myself to improve a bit in writing. This story I'm giving you guys right now might not be unique or might not give something new, I wrote this story because I want to tell people that these characters inside of the novel are based on the people I really cherish.
2020 was said to be the WORST YEAR as I'm hearing a lot in posts on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. But to me, honestly speaking, it was one of the best years. Everything was unexpected, people come popping out of nowhere, people dying everywhere, any shit you can even think of-- but for some reason, in that year, I have met the best people that came into my life. Those people became my friends, then developed as best friends, now I think of them like my brothers and sisters. It was late-October and early-November of 2020 when I started thinking about reviving this title and completely writing a new story with new lore. Writing this novel for me was like writing 200+ pages of love letters just for 12 people [chuckles].

The dead comes back to life, and they run-- a more reason to fear on. Lin, Mae, Jon, and Zack, using their immunity, fights their way amongst the hordes of living corpses to preserve their own future.

Some authors in chat talked about a book's worth. 

Most agreed that its value depends on the readers' willingness to pay for a novel. And the most selling here in WN are romance and h e n t a i.

Honestly, it is true in a sense that most authors who don't write these two genres or have the general audience receive lesser income to none. However, there are also other genres that are popular.

What saddening is that a story which has no s** will be buried deep in the list of books.

One time, a person told me that he won't read books without s**. I think you understand what I mean.

Sad... 

Those good literary authors will just choose Amazon. I totally agree with that.

But, is that what really makes a book valuable? So, the authors will just resort to writing stories with s**  since most will welcome it.

I feel sad if it is.

I've been reading and watching epic and classic stories like Mary Poppins, The Twelve Kingdoms, Fushigi Yuugi, The Vision of Escaflowne, Star Wars, Anne of Green Gables, Pride and Prejudice, Little Women, and others. 

These are great books but I'm not sure if the new generation is still reading them.

Hoping they are.

So, what is the worth of a writer? Of a person's storyteller's heart and creativity?

Will it just be buried deep in isolation? Will it just be following the flow of readership and abandon its desire to produce good stories?

I disagree. We still love good stories. There are still more readers who love good reads. In fact, these type of stories are more engaging and imploring. Those epic stories won't be called epic if no one reads them anymore. They are classified as such because their worth is beyond trends.

They simply go against the flow and create a tsunami, leaving people awestruck.

That is the type of book I want to write. I prefer to be remembered as an author who writes good stories without compromising the principles I believe.

Don't get me wrong. There are still good books with a bit of those s** things out there that you can read. But they don't focus on those scenes but on the story itself.

I am a person who never follows trends. And I care less what people call me. I will rather be true to myself than to follow the crowd and lose my self-respect.

In my opinion, the worth of a story is not only on the business side but also on how much heart and effort the author gives to his/her books.

To authors: Let us enjoy writing good stories. Let us be proud of what we write for not everyone can be authors. And not all writers can finish a book. The truth, most books here are unfinished.

To readers: Support good books and give the authors that confidence to continue writing good stories. Without your support, the authors might give up. If no one read good stories, then there's no point on writing one. But I believe most readers still love those type of books.
