A very short story to test Webnovels writing tools.

I'm not a superstitious person. I tend to prefer logic and common sense to make sense of my reality, but I do believe in some things that humans cannot explain. Ever since I started writing my story (without my spouses knowledge) I had noticed they were having more sleep paralysis episodes. (Yes, I understand the whole REM sleep blah blah blah). I just assumed it was stress induced, then the day of the last chapter I wrote, my spouse once again had sleep paralysis. By this time, I was under the suspicion that my writing this story was affecting their sleep paralysis. The next day, I decided not to write, debating that maybe I shouldn't. Then it happened. 
I had sleep paralysis. I was on my back, my head slightly tilted. I couldn't move, but could move only my eyes. In my peripheral vision I saw sheer black on my spouses side of the bed but felt a presence in the dark. I then heard thoughts in my head (not a voice, just a mere thought of understanding) stating that I was in the way of them getting to my spouse and it was angry with me. Not just angry, but enraged. It wanted me gone.
This only made me angry, slight scared, but I defied these thoughts and tried to yell my spouses name to wake them up. I was able to say half their name when I sat up abruptly. I looked around and everything was gone. My spouse slept comfortably and I thought-just a bad dream.
Then I dreamt again right after, same night.
(From what I can remember) I was in a different home and my spouse ran up to me. They said, "Whatever you do, don't let that demon take me. Wake me up! Whatever you do, WAKE ME UP!" The grabbed my arms and pleaded with me. I could see fear in their eyes.
Once again, I woke up. I sat up, looked around and nothing. I checked my watch, it's about 1:28am now. I felt my heart pounding a bit, it scared me a little, but my spouse is sound asleep, I sense nothing, I see nothing-okay let's go back to sleep.
I.....dream....again. Same night.
I'm in the same house of my previous dream. My spouse said they were afraid to sleep in the bedroom alone and to wake them up from the couch when I'm done cleaning up the kitchen. I have majority of the lights off so they can sleep, but in the kitchen there are two openings. I can see my spouse asleep on the couch and on the other side, I can see the dining table.
I continue to clean when I walk into the dining room and put something away when I'm walking and see in my peripheral vision my spouse. I immediately stop because on their chest is a short sickle (I had to look up what this tool was called) and the other a two in one hoe and rake. I'm nervous, I never saw them get up, but how did those tools get there. I walk up to them, shaking their arm.
"Honey wake up." I say repeatedly.
They wake up groggily and say nothing.
"Honey, how did these get here?" I ask a couple of times. They don't reply.
I walk into the kitchen, "Just put them on the dining table for now." I say, watching them grab the tools, get up, and walk to the dining table. I'm in the kitchen watching carefully as they place the tools on the table. They stand there silently in the dark, I can see them a little. They are just staring at the tools. 
"Honey?" I say, "Honey? Are you okay?"
Silence.
I'm nervous, I walk closer to a woodblock that holds knives. Suddenly, my spouse grabs the hoe and rake and fast pace walks towards me. I'm fucking terrified by this point, I grab ANY knife and I touch it to see which one I grabbed. I touch and feel a serrated bread knife, meaning it does not have a sharp point. He's coming on full speed and swings at me. I look at my spouses eyes, pleading for them to wake up, but all I see is anger and it looks like they want to kill me. I decide to poke them with my knife since it doesn't have a sharp edge in the hopes it'll wake them. Nope. They look even more pissed off. They swing at me again, but I place my serrated side up where it catches their tool. I pull back my knife and run screaming, "Wake up! Wake up!" And BAM! I sit up so fast, my hearts racing, my hands are trembling, and I'm scared. I look around, but this time I feel the urge to wake them. I don't know why, but every fiber of my being is telling me.....if I don't wake them up now, something bad will happen. I tell myself it's all in my head and it was just a bad dream. Still. I cannot shake this heavy feeling, so I grabbed my spouses arm and yanked it from under them. They woke up and were pissed, but I didn't care. 
They haven't had sleep paralysis since I stopped writing and since I did that.
I don't care what you believe in. I don't care if you believe me. What I do know is that I listen to my gut instincts, whether I can explain it or not. I felt a strong urge to stop writing and that somehow my writing was affecting my spouse. For that reason, I'm stopping. Sorry, but no.

Morning came and the trenches were being dug all across the walls of the capitol. The generals woke up with the sound of the bells of the Carabian capitol, alongside the hitting of the pickaxes and the digging of the sand.
Ixander oversaw the massive trench centre near the gates of Khatanabat. However, his face was filled with discontent. It was because the expected output of the tools were not met on the very first day the workshops changed production. The tools that were produced on that day was meager.
"I've been too optimistic on my estimates. There were only four hundred and seventy tools produced, as opposed to the expected seven hundred. This might be a problem that may hinder our progress" informed Farkan.
"And the remaining tools were only covered by the supplies the city already has…which only lasts until tomorrow, or the work will be halted" added Farkan.
Ixander then thought what the problem of the workshops could be. So he went to one of the workshops. He saw that the men working are around the clock, but was never able to meet the tools demand. Some were also inexperienced as they were apprentices.
Ixander then walked to the master blacksmith, and asked him. "What could be the problem? Why was not the demands for the tools met in this workshop?" asked Ixander.
"The men…well some died off the last war. Some however, are in the army. These rookies are working 'round the clock, they are yet to meet the demand!" said the master, making sure he is heard amongst the pounding of hot iron, heating of the blanks, and sharpening of the tools.
Ixander then thanked the master blacksmith. "Very well, I will act upon it."
Ixander then left the premises. One of the apprentices approached the master blacksmith and said "Whoa, was that the great Ixander? I only heard his name from stories, I never knew he was real."
"Well, yeah, I also thought he was also a myth. They said he could save Carab" the blacksmith said.
"I wonder how though, with all these tools?" added him as he laughed in a short while. "Ye, go back to work! We've got more of the shovels and pickaxes to mold…" ordered the blacksmith in a rusty, but friendly voice. "Make sure to haft them properly!"
Ixander then went quickly to the meeting of Generals, accompanied by his aides-de-camp and Farkan. The door was opened by the Carabian soldiers, and the retinue marched towards the room.
Ixander whispered to Farkan "Who commands the Militia?"
"Gabgor, he's on the side of that general who spitted on you."
"I forgot his name as well" said Ixander.
"That one, sir, is Harkab" said Farkan.
Ixander sighed, then said "I wonder how many names I am going to memorize my entire life…"
Ixander then asked the generals "Which one of you is Gabgor?"
"I am" said the general who was immediately beside Harkab.
Ixander looked at him, then at the table and ordered "Do a census among your men, and which one of them are toolsmiths."
"And why should I follow you?" asked Gabgor.
"Do you want me to lick and shine your boots for me to order you to save your country?" asked Ixander.
Ixander then continued "I've talked to the men who were working at the trenches. None of them were militiamen. Most of them were regulars who are willing to fight and die for their country with or without my command. Shame on you, and each and every one of you!"
He was about to march out of the room to enforce the command himself, but suddenly he stopped and looked back at Harkab and Gabgor.
Suddenly, a messenger from the queen arrived. "Good morning sir, a message from the majesty."
Farkan opened the message. He then read the message out loud. "The majesty announces that all the civil and military officials gather at the ballroom of the palace this afternoon. The majesty will announce officially some points."
Farkan then closed the letter, and threw it on the table. Ixander, with a sour face, went outside the room and oversaw the census of the militia being done.
In fact, he joined the census takers.
The tables were set up in front of the barracks to census the militia of their job, and to have quite a friendly talk with them.
"Name?"
"Yulijus sir."
"Occupation?"
"Well, I'm a soldier now, but I would be a shoemaker if I wished it. They call me a man with a jack on all trades!"
Ixander then looked up, then asked "Jack of all trades, so you know how to make tools from scratch as well then."
"Not only that, I almost became a master, if not of course for the foolishness I've done!" the soldier then laughed, then coughed, then tried to calm himself. "Haa… sorry, sorry, I just can't forget it. I sold all of the tools to a fur merchant for five carthres, and damn! The master held his head with both hands in frustration and said 'AYAYAAAAAAYYYY! You're going to kill my shop!' then he ran to me with his cleaver!" then he laughed so hard that his toothless gums were showing.
Ixander laughed as well, whilst holding his head in temples and shaking his head simultaneously. "B-but you would be willing to work at a shop again, just for the sake…"
"Ay! Ay! No no, if I went to the same master I'm dead!" then Yulijus laughed briefly.
"Tell me the name of the master, and I will show you away from him, to another shop."
Ixander then asked for the next man. The stream of interesting stories are not yet over for Ixander.
"Name?"
"Bambaro."
"Occupation?"
"Cuckold."
Ixander was writing his name and details, but then appeared unbelieving and confused. He stopped writing and raised his head. A dark skinned man is before him. "Sorry what did you say?"
"I do cuckolding."
Not only did Ixander hear the words for the first time as if it was a joke or not, the man in front of him repeated it!
"Cuckolding? Are you serious?"
"This is a census sir, I wouldn't lie like when I told the last lonely wife that she's the only one I have in mind."
Ixander's eyes widened. He shook his head in surprise. "S-so you earn from what you do?"

Ixander's eyebrows raised and does not ask for more.
He then finished listing Bambaro's details, scoots over to another census taker and said "These men are quite interesting…"
"Not as interesting as I, if you may ask sir" said the census taker.
Ixander appeared curious and confused. The census taker then said "I was a smuggler going to Fortland, on the north. We drank so much that we trashed an entire in, and almost lit the gunpowder barrels at the neighboring gun shop."
Ixander scooted back at his table, appearing much more surprised. "I never knew some other's life were more interesting than I."
And so for the next few days of preparing trenches, getting back the smiths to their workshops to increase production of tools, they are now prepared for what hell the Albanese men will give them.
Farkan then went into Ixander's bureau. He then opened the door and entered. 
"The rations, are they enough?" asked Ixander.
"They are, and there are supposed to be more. But I have more reports from the harbor" said Farkan.
"I'm guessing the Albanese steamed fleet is going north and the Carabian navy is freaking out?" said Ixander.
Farkan remained in his position and steadied in there.
Ixander then stopped writing and stood. He wore his hat and said to Farkan "Come follow me…"
"To where?" asked Farkan.
"I heard the capital is best at silk weaving, so we will go there…" said Ixander.
So they went to the silk weavers. Most of the workers there were women, and so Ixander went to the owner's office and he drew something like a large sac.
"I would like you to form such. I advise you do not ask the purpose of it."
"I do not worry of this, if it is to save the city, but unless we know the dimension of the thing on this will be put, we will not be able to predict how this would work out" said the owner.
Ixander then pointed out what was necessary, not giving away what is to be done.
He then went to the carpenters, who were asked to make wooden fan-like light wood and a basket that is able to fit five people. Afterwards, he went to the gas lamp makers, then requested they make a burner.
Farkan was then curious as to what Ixander is planning to build.
"What are you planning to do?"
"You will know. I've also requested a workshop to make hooks, while the hemp shops were to make rope."
Then, the day finally came when everything was finished. The materials were sent out the field, and Ixander oversaw his plan in motion. It was none other than a hot air balloon which is able to propel.
He lit the flames above then asked Farkan and two aides to propel the balloon.
It was the first time that Farkan saw such device. He was impressed, and the people of Khatanabat looked at the sky. Some were panicked at what they saw, but some were admiring the view.
For Carab, it was a dawn of a new era. For Ixander, it was a success, a work well done which he did not expect to be a success.
Farkan smiled at the feeling of seeing the world below being so small. He then talked to Ixander. "The afternoon seven days ago, the majesty asked for a meeting. We were shocked that she showed herself finally to the grand audience, they never expected it. She announced that she will be crowned officially once the invaders are defeated, and will name someone to have a hand in her marriage."
"Her majesty said that?" asked Ixander.
"What I'm trying to say is, ever since you came to Carab…no…ever since you came to this world, you were a blessing of ration and humility…"
And so, they noticed the sun set from the horizon they are at.

Returning to his seat with a calm look on his face, Qiu Xuegang used a sleight of hand to slip his phone into his pocket. He seated on his chair as the corners of his mouth curled upwards.

His classmate poked him, intending to get his attention, and proceeded to whisper as soon as he confirmed that he was listening. "Hey, did you get it?" 

"Of course." Qiu Xuegang responded with confidence. He took out his phone and, with his fast hands, sent the image to the group chat. He didn't even need to look at the actual picture!

Soon enough, the phones of every student in the vicinity vibrated. Everyone smirked. There's another one for the albums...

Their teacher took out her marker and wrote on the board with her back facing her students, making her oblivious to anything happening behind her.

One student took out their phone. Another followed, and another, and another, until everyone had their phones on their desk. 

They opened their group chats. 

There!

The image was blurred out. They tapped it, and a prompt appeared, asking if they wanted to use their mobile data to open the image.

Of course, they pressed yes. 

The image started loading.

"..." "..." "..."

The whole classroom was quiet, with only the sounds of a marker writing on a whiteboard being heard throughout. 

'Yes, it loaded!' One student exclaimed in her mind, excited to see her teacher's haggard face again.

However, what she saw was something she did not anticipate.

Multiple phones have loaded the image as well, and the respective students that owned those phones got dumbfounded.

Meanwhile, Qiu Xuegang waited for his classmates' reactions. He sat on his chair, satisfied.

'Ah, there...' His seatmate had just loaded the image on his phone, and he was about to tell him. However, as soon as his eyes caught sight of the face on his phone.

His eyes widened.

"Uh... hey, hey!" Qiu Xuegang's seatmate hurriedly shook the other party's shoulder.

"Ugh, what?" Qiu Xuegang responded with an annoyed tone.

"L- look at this!" His seatmate grabbed his phone and showed the picture to him.

"Eh? Who is this?" Qiu Xuegang didn't even recognize who the lady in the picture was. Why was his seatmate so eager to show him this?

"This... it's the picture you took!" His seatmate responded.

"Hmm, are you looking for these?" Zhou Lei then lifted his other hand, revealing that he was holding something the whole time.

"This... yes!" Zhou Zhenya's eyes lit up as she saw the tools in her brother's hand. Her face was filled with yearning. The whole reason she went to her brother's school was because of these!

"Take them. Then go straight home, okay?" Zhou Lei graciously gave the tools back to his sister. Naturally, he knew of his sister's newfound addiction to fixing and polishing the tiles and the walls in their house. The only thing he wondered about was how the tools ended up in his bag in the first place.

With this matter solved, Zhou Lei looked at the front of his classroom.

"Miss Wen?" Zhou Lei recognized the woman in front immediately. "Wow, she looks beautiful." 

Of course, Zhou Lei was unfazed by his teacher's new look, since he got himself a prettier sister. He was used to seeing such beauty since long ago.

Everyone would go through a phase in their life where they would start to question everything like an edgelord.

But Krill was going through something more complex than that, he had started to question everything even himself.

Looking at his reflection on a giant mirror, Krill felt like his head was about to explode.

It had been 6 hours since he woke up and 4 hours since the two old men left his room and he had gotten quite a shock from what they had told him.

The needle like old man, who's name was Vigor Neal, and was the head butler of this mansion had recounted to him how "He" lost "His" memories.

According to Vigor, he fell from the "Sky Tower", a 500 ft tall ancient tower that served as a tourist attraction for this city, and nearly lost his life.

Although he was immediately treated, he still had internal injuries and his brain took the most damage which caused him to loose his memories.

The other old man was a famous Healer called Master Giovan Faldios and had rushed here when he was called by the old butler and that it was only due to him using his "Sun-Ray Healing Spell" for 6 days straight that Krill Survived.

Another thing to note was that the old butler kept calling him "Master Kreal" this along with all the other information, was enough for Krill to come up with a conclusion. He was no longer in the body of Krill, an orphan with 29k dollars worth of debt but Some rich noble kid named Kreal.

Is this for real? Or was it all just a dream he was having while his real body was under comatose?

"Sigh, whatever. Can't get worse than dying right? I was already prepared for death, what's there to be afraid of!" Giving himself some encouragement, Krill was about to put on his clothes when suddenly he felt a sharp pain on his chest.

"Khuck! The hell?" 

Looking at his chest, Krill saw a small but deep wound.

"Argh, didn't the old guy heal me?" 

Confused, Kreal grabbed his chest to put pressure on his wound in order to stop the bleeding but as soon as his hands touched the wound a golden light enveloped his vision.

The light went as quickly as it came and he soon regained his sight.

But the view before him wasn't that of his large and luxurious changing room, instead he found himself standing at the edge of a tall building.

He was looking at the distant horizon where a huge flock of birds were flying majestically and Freely.

Then, he shifted his gaze towards a single, lonely bird struggling to catch up with the rest.

"No matter how hard you try, they always leave you behind.. sigh! It seems like you and i are the same" 

*Wait? Isn't that my voice? What's happening? Is this a past memory of the Real Kreal?*

Suddenly being forced into this strange predicaments where he had no control over his body Krill Felt frustrated.

Meanwhile, the REAL Kreal turned to reveal a large open space. The ground of this open space was made of black stone bricks and had many strange formations drawn on it.

In the middle stood a person clad in blue rob and a face mask. The robe was very loose with long sleeves which hid the their hands completely.

"Is this how i go? Very well. I tried but i couldn't catch up. So, who Sent you? Are you not going to tell me even that before you kill me?"

Tha masked person was visibly irritated by Kreal's calm and composed manner in the face of death.

"It seems like the rumours are true. Kreal Felorn, you are a very interesting person. You could have made a nice addition to my collection of toys but alas the world has forsaken you for good" While speaking in a voice that made it hard to identify their gender, the masked person walked towards Kreal and flicked their left sleeve to reveal a hand completely covered in black gloves clutching a strange blue coloured ornamental knife.

"This is a 4th grade Magic Artifact called frost shadow, the wounds made by this contain frost mana which freezes and stops the blood flow to increase its lethality, best of all they automatically disappear after killing the target. No one will even know that you were actually assassinated" The assassin said slowly.

"Who was it? My brother? My Uncle? The prince? Or Duke Treithorg?" Despite being so close to death, Kreal still pressed on.

Ziiiccckkkk!

The masked person's body turned into a blur and in a flash appeared infront of Kreal.

"Khuck! So in the end, i won't even know who killed me.." looking at the blood on his luxurious white shirt, Kreal Closed his eyes.

The masked person lowered their head and whispered in his ear, "Kargal Ferguson" and kicked him on his chest which sent him flying off the edge.

BANG!

The illusionary world shattered and Krill returned back to his changing room, full of Sweat.

"Gaahh! Shit, my lungs feel like they are burning!" Gasping for air, Krill collapsed on the floor.

After over 30 minutes later, he struggled to stand up.

"Haaah" Exhaling slowly, Krill calmed himself.

Looking down at his chest again, he found that the wound had long disappeared without even a trace of blood left.

"Thats strange, i swear the wound was real!"

Sorting out his thoughts, Krill hurriedly wore his clothes and left the changing room.

After arriving back in his bedroom, where he first woke up, Krill started to look for writing tools.

After toiling around for 20 minutes he found out that there were no writing tools to be found in this room.

At that moment, the door clicked opened and the old butler vigor stepped inside.

Looking at the messy room, and Krill's darting gazes the old butler asked "Master Kreal, are you looking for something?"

"Ah, yes. Mr Vigor i was searching for writing tools" scratching his head, Krill felt apologetic for messing up the room.

"Oh is that so? The writing materials had all been moved to Master's study room.. do you wish to go there Master Kreal?" Remembering that Kreal had lost his memories and so would not know where the study room was, vigor hurriedly asked.

"Yes, i would appreciate it Mr vigor" repleid Krill.

"It is my pleasure. Also, i would very much appreciate it if Master Kreal were to refer to me as Butler Vigor or just Vigor" Bowing, Vigor replied as he gestured for Krill to follow him.

Following Vigor through the maze like corridors for a couple of minutes, Krill arrived in the study room which was a slightly larger room than his bedroom and contained three large bookshelves that were connected to the ceiling.

Krill quickly walked towards the study desk prepared with all the necessary writing tools and materials.

He sat on the chair and looked at the old butler as he pondered over how he should address him.

Thinking about it for a split second, Krill decided to just go with "Uncle" as it was both respectful to the old butler and felt much better than Butler Vigor or calling someone 3 times his age by just their name.

"Uncle Vigor, i would like to be left alone if it's fine with you."

"Uh, i shall see myself out then. Just ring the small bell over there if Master needs something." After pointing at a small golden bell lying on the study desk, Vigor bowed and left the room.

"Sigh" with a long breathe, Krill calmly searched something to write on.

Searching around for a while, he found a thick diary in the desk drawer.

"A diary? Sadly all the pages are blank." Looking at the blank diary, Krill decided to use it.

Picking the pen Krill slowly wrote about his experience in the illusionary world, he tried to recount as much as possible and not miss even the smallest of details.

From every single movement of the assassin till the end to every single noise in the background. Krill wrote down all he could remember.

After he was done writing down everything about "The Flashback", that's what he decided to call that phenomenon, Krill started to breakdown everything he could.

The previous Kreal felt like he and the lonely bird trying to catch up with the flock were "The Same" which probably meant that Kreal was always lonely, either his family members never paid him much attention or purposely left him out. Thinking up to here Krill felt sorry for his predecessor.

"So it seems like the reason i haven't seen any of his relatives till now isn't because they are busy or don't know about the incident of him falling from the tower, or more accurately about being thrown off the tower after being stabbed, but because they just don't care. Reminds me of my previous life." Seeing how Kreal was treated by his family, Krill couldn't help but remember the despicable things done to him by his family in his previous life. 

Krill liked to call himself an orphan and it was not without reason.

At the age of 6, instead of playing with other kids like a normal child Krill was begging on the streets just so his father could drink some more alcohol.

And finally at the age of 20 when he his father drawned in debt, he committed suicide and left Krill to pay for it. 

Always being used like a slave, always being thrown aside after he served his purpose. Krill had always hated his family and had started identifying himself as an orphan since birth.

The Elf muttered to himself before standing up, seeming determined.

He grasped the Elf's head and pushed it into the puddle. After three minutes, the Elf collapsed to the ground, no longer breathing.

Lin Junjun's eyes shone brightly as she stared at An Lin, her expression alight with battle intent.
An Lin didn't waste time with words, instead carving out a formation.
Lin Junjun copied the formation onto a piece of paper.
After finishing her drawing, she nodded approvingly, a triumphant smile appearing on her face. "Not bad, this is a bloodline fortification array formation, you may receive an intermediate rank Spirit Tool from Jiang Anlan's treasure vault."
Lin Junjun rested her chin in her hand as she smiled slightly. "Mr. An, do you have anything else to offer?"
An Lin nodded before carving out two more formations.
Lin Junjun was slightly taken aback by this, but still maintained a calm expression after copying the formations. "Hmm, very good, you've indeed reaped some great rewards. You may receive an intermediate rank and an elementary rank Spirit Tool from Jiang Anlan's treasure vault."
An Lin was shocked by her words, but still maintained a calm facade.
He just casually tossed out two trash formations, who would've thought they would be so valuable…

An Lin smiled before writing down about a dozen bloodline research experiment papers onto the table.
Jiang Anlan's breathing quickened. "Master Tianyu, there are no more Spirit Pills in the treasure vault…"
Lin Junjun gripped her chest in pain. "Bring out all the rare treasures and the tool refinement materials!"
An Lin nodded in contentment before drawing out a few mechanical blueprints onto the table.
Jiang Anlan's lips trembled. "Master Tianyu, there appear to only be spirit stones left in the treasure vault…"
Lin Junjun's eyes widened as she chewed tightly on her bottom lip. Only after a long while did she manage to eke out a response. "Then bring it all out!"
An Lin was very satisfied. He continued to draw another dozen formations with a happy smile.
Darkness fluttered past Lin Junjun's eyes as her paintbrush slipped from her grip and fell onto the ground. "You… how do you have more formations!?"
An Lin blinked innocently. "Because I saved a few in case I drew out too many and bankrupted you guys."

Jiang Anlan stared blankly at the formations on the table, struck with a sudden urge to commit suicide by bashing his head into the table.

An Lin fell into silence after receiving the piece of paper.

An Lin nodded before stowing the piece of paper away. He was a student of the Heavenly Court anyway, so it wouldn't be an issue even if he had to go directly to the Dou Shuai Palace.
However, to be able to exchange a dozen combinations of symbols for an Immortal Pill, that was a very alluring reward.
Hence, he cast his gaze toward Lin Junjun before opening his mouth testily. "Also… I still have a lot of information left, do you still want it?"
