I love colors. I'll say it over and over again: I love colors! They're beautiful. They're stimulating. Sometimes I even think they're magical. I love everything about them, from the power they have to evoke emotions to the subtle yet distinct differences they make in a work of art. But my favorite thing about colors is their symbolism, the way they can be used to hide secrets and hint at details of a bigger picture without drawing focus away from the story at hand.

It's simple enough to use colors in visual art, but what about in writing? Challenging as it may seem, I believe it is possible to create symbolism with words, such as when describing color schemes of character outfits and settings. Color symbolism has fascinated me for as long as I can remember, and while it would take an entire book (or series of books) to get into it all, I'd like to at least scratch the surface today with some of the basics I've picked up throughout my experience researching and implementing meaningful colors in my stories. You may want to consider these tips the next time you set a scene; they can help add a vivid new layer to your story! Enjoy!
Red – Red is a bold and passionate color, often symbolizing such strong ideas and images as courage, fire, power, and violence. It's a color that demands attention, which is why it's commonly used to signify danger. Use red for passionate or aggressive characters, or for any sort of intense scene, whether it's the heat of love or the violence of war.

￼Orange – Not quite passionate and not quite joyful, orange is a middle ground between red and yellow. It symbolizes energy and creativity, and is used in psychology to stimulate enthusiasm and determination. Use orange for adventurous or creative characters, or when you want to paint some vibrant warmth into a scene.

￼Yellow – Yellow is the two-sided coin of colors. On the one hand, it symbolizes happiness, optimism, sunshine, and friendship. On the other hand, it can also stand for cowardice, illness, hazard, and deceit. Golden shades represent wealth and luxury. Use yellow when you want to add hints of joy or caution to a scene. For the best effect, I recommend using yellow ambiguously, such as for characters who seem jubilant and optimistic on the outside but who are fearful or deceitful on the inside.

￼Green – Think of green and you're sure to picture beautiful scenes of nature, complete with lush vegetation as far as the eye can see. Indeed, green is the color of the environment, and it represents such ideas as youth, fertility, health, and rebirth. Abstractly, it also symbolizes jealousy and good luck. Use green for characters associated with natural themes such as environmentalism or the practice of healing, or to hint at fortune or envy in relationships.

￼Blue – Blue is my favorite color because it represents all my favorite things. It's a color that symbolizes intelligence, tranquility, trust, and loyalty. In nature, it's associated with the sky and the sea, and different shades from turquoise to navy can be used to signify sophistication, knowledge, and integrity. Use blue for characters who are more intellectual than emotional, and for settings fitting an atmosphere of calm and authority.

￼Purple – Purple is the color of royalty, and has long represented such themes as nobility, wisdom, honor, and extravagance. Being a relatively rare color in nature, it is often associated with mystery and magic. Lighter shades such as lavender also convey grace and elegance. Use purple as a motif for regal or arrogant characters, mysterious settings, and storylines brimming with fantasy.

￼Pink – A soft complement to the bold red, pink is the color that most famously signifies love and romance. Strongly associated with femininity, it represents tenderness, caring, and acceptance. I myself tend to associate the color pink with flowers. Use pink to add a soothing or feminine quality to a scene, or to signify elements of a romantic subplot.

￼Brown – Brown is well known as an earth tone, and as such tends to represent stability. Common ideas associated with the color brown include simplicity, comfort, and endurance. Use brown when you want to convey a sense of plainness or tenacity in a scene without having to resort to the blatant dullness of gray.

￼Gray – The dull middle ground between white and black, gray is most commonly associated with boredom and depression. On the positive side, it also stands for security, modesty, practicality, and reliability. Use gray for conservative characters or when you want to create a colorless air for a particular setting.

￼White – White is the international color of peace, and is often regarded as a symbol of light, purity, and faith. Some even go as far as to associate it with perfection. Note that white takes on a different meaning in Eastern cultures, where it's associated with death and mourning. Use white when you want to convey innocence in your characters and cleanliness in your settings, or when you want to create strong religious symbolism in your scenes.

￼Black – The exact opposite of white, black represents everything that its counterpart doesn't. Darkness, evil, and death are themes commonly associated with black, but it can also stand for austerity, formality, style, and sexuality. Arguably the most powerful color of all, black has a long history of symbolizing strongly opposed ideas on the spectrum of good and evil. Use black to convey depth in your characters or to add dark themes to a scene. For best results, combine it with other colors to create interesting contrasts of ideas in your stories.

I'm Rayshawn Butler, and I enjoy watching anime as well as drawing them. I love listening to old school music, particularly Janet Jackson. My favorite manga team is the all-female group CLAMP who is known for Cardcaptor Sakura, Magic Knight Rayearth, ×××HOLiC, Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles, RG Veda, X/1999, Chobits and many others. Clamp was my huge inspiration for writing my own stories because their works cover themes such as fate, love transcending age, gender, and identity, human relationships and the idea of soulmates.

When I was a young child, my family and friends we're the most important people in my life because they encourage me to become a successful adult in the future. While growing up in High Point, I was born as the middle child of the Butler family; my brother is the oldest and my sister is the second oldest. Since eleven years has passed, my youngest sister was conceived at the High Point Regional Medical Center. 

During my childhood, I moved quite frequently: I used to live in a two-story apartment known as Beamon Courts where my aunt's mother lives in. Her name was Ms. Byers and her daughter is named Jackie Byers. Since then, I would often go to her house and spend quality time with her such as having conversations with her, watching TV, and treating others well. However, as time passes, I never saw much of her on account that she passed away in 2016. I felt heartbroken at the thought of her death, but I often remind myself that she's with God, and her daughter is still striving during the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of this, my family guided me through life by setting good examples of maintaining a positive outlook during dire consequences, treating people with care and respect, and adapting myself in the real world. They also encouraged me to learn how to manage my money so that no one would cheat me out of my money.

Speaking of managing money, my family and I often go out and eat at public restaurants, most notably McDonald's. When it comes to eating as much as we can, I often finished my plate and let the food digest. However, I'm also aware that eating too much trans fat can cause people to experience a number of health problems. Due to this, my family have to save enough money to use for more important business such as insurance and savings. In order to be balanced with our money, we keep track of our income and expenses so that we stay on top of our monthly bills. Elaborating on my current health, I go to the doctor regularly because it's important for me to schedule an appointment with a doctor about my health. 

One time, I had a surgery appointment at Brenners Children's Hospital because I had scoliosis. My spine was curved, which caused me to have a lot of trouble standing up properly. After the surgery, I had rods put in my back to help support my posture. Since I had rods in back, I never done any sports of any kind. This is also connected to the fact that fact my parents, despite the difficulties in their jobs, they work hard to value me and my siblings' life so that we can have a better future. Expanding on the impact they had on me, they also taught me life lessons on advocating myself to pursue my dreams, setting up future goals to achieve and strive for, and always be true to myself. I'm glad my family guided me through life because they talked clearly on making the right decisions to avoid any serious mistakes.

Since 2015, I enrolled at GTCC to study in the Advertising & Graphic Design program. My art teacher, Ms. Snyder, introduced me to the principles of art when I took up drawing classes. Currently, I am majoring in the Associate in Fine Arts program to earn my Fine Arts degree. Although, despite my ambition of becoming a professional artist in the future, I faced some major obstacles that hindered me from succeeding in my chosen field like taking in constructive criticism, approaching negative thoughts about my artwork, and demonstrating poor behavorial skills. My profession is to be a successful graphic designer and open up my own business in the future.

Since 2019, I have participated in Portfolio Day and discussed my design process to the viewers who came to look at many designs. I am a graphic designer and the techniques that I use involve using Adobe software programs and art utensils. I also uploaded artworks on Behance for audiences to review and be influenced. What inspired me to create my work is researching Japanese artwork. One of the inspirations that pique my interest in studying art is Japanese manga (comic books), particularly Clamp. My inspiration came from researching and reading about how Japanese art influenced me to create art that will catch the audience's attention.

When I create art, it makes me feel inspired to create original pieces that relate to my inspiration. Because of this, I create art to convey the message that, even if art does involve drawing and brainstorming concepts on paper, it is visual communication that revolves around the idea of addressing themes that relate to how society functions. The major themes that are present in my artwork are perseverance, being a goal seeker, dealing with everyday life and the joy and pain that it brings us, and finding hope in a harsh world. The themes revolve around the idea of finding your purpose and how you can subvert that purpose into something meaningful. 

Media as a whole influenced my way of viewing life because they last a timeless impression on how I view the world from a fictional or musical perspective. One of the R&B singers that I often bring up in conversations is Janet Jackson because I admire how she tackles various social themes that are still relevant in today's society such as racism, domestic violence, gang violence, school shootings, sensuality, poverty, and hope. I'm inspired by media because they help me reflect on my individuality (social wellness). Because of this, I'm capable of befriending people and sharing my feelings with them. This encourages me to be brave and make good choices that will benefit my future goals. So, for the near future, I'm going to improve on my health by getting a proper education, getting 6-8 hours of sleep, having access to health care, maintaining good income, and maintaining a healthy social relationship. These impacts were important as they were in the past because they influence me to make proactive decisions that will help me succeed in my life.

Anime has been a huge influence in my life because I grew up watching and reading some manga stories that caught my interest in creating my own stories in the near-future. One day, when I get a job in Japan as a manga artist, my stories would be about children and young adults exploring their worlds, fighting against all odds, and learning moral lessons on sacrifice, love, fate, predetermination & destiny.

Applying for a job, being independent, starting a family of my own, and taking care of my family are all relevant matters that are important in my life because they're in an integral part of growing up in a flawed, but functioning society.

Cloud Snow is a famous teen actor well known for his roll as a murderer a.k.a his father in a murder mystery show. He sees himself as a product of false love and is a scythe; a type of ghost whom's core is death and it will kill living things it deems fit.

This book does contain what I experience at night. I love my friends very much and a lot of the things in here are meant to be fantasy. I do not intend to romanticize anything. I simply want this to be a book my friends and I can enjoy. I don't know how to explain to them the things that go on at night. I can't explain how I can't sleep or eat.  Just know I love you all and this is the only way I can explain myself. 
A few themes in here explain: PBA (Pseudobulbar Affect), Hallucinations, Paranoia, Medication, False memories, Anxiety and Other things I do not know the name of.

STORY DESCRIPTION:

MAIN CHARACTERS:

Sai Akhil- The main male lead of this story. A loving and charming boy, whose parents got killed in 2008 Mumbai blasts. Since childhood, his grandfather Rangaswamy raised him up. Vishalakshi's love interest and Ishika's ex-lover.

Vishalakshi- The main female lead of this story. She is the close friend of Ishika. Initially, loved Akhil one sided. But, sacrificed her love for the sake of Ishika. A rich girl.

Ishika- The parallel female lead of this story. She is a brahmin girl and initially, Akhil distanced himself from her after being forced by her sister to do like such. However, he spoke with her again. She meets with an accident and dies unexpectedly. 

Sai Adhithya- The Parallel male lead of the story. He is Akhil's close friend since childhood. He grew up with the guidance Akhil's grandfather.

SUPPORTING CHARACTERS:

Muhammad Nausath- Akhil and Sai Adhithya's close friend. Besides being a Muslim, they never considered religion and were like family. His father is a police officer. He died in Delhi riots 2020, after being burnt alive by the protestors.

Muhammad Azad Khan a.k.a.Azad- Nausath's close friend. They lived in his house. Azad's family is secular and conservative. Aftermath of the riots, they left Delhi in order to forget about the incidents.

Rishi Khanna- Akhil's college classmate. He initially, sent the screenshots of Sai Akhil's message of confessing love(to Ishika) and mocked him. But later supported him and became his close friend.

Rangaswamy- A 60-year old retired Colonel and Akhil's grandfather. Their family was great freedom fighters. He taught his grandson about the importance of telling slogans, Bhagavat Gita and Garuda Literature. A loving and kind-hearted person.

GUEST CHARACTERS:

Mukesh- Vishalakshi's father and a rich person. In addition, he is a highly influential businesmen too.

Ishika's sister and father have a guest role in the story.

THEMES:

The story explores on the importance of love. The quote, "Love is eternal and perennial" is the main highlight, involved here. It takes ideas and inspirations from epic-historical books such as Bhagavat Gita, Ramayana and Mahabharata respectively.

The scene where I showed Sai Akhil telling to his grandfather, "Arjuna was able to see the bird as his only target and henceforth, won the task given by Drona" implies about the importance of focussed mindsets. Some told that this story was inspired heavily from Mahabharata and Ramayana.

But, it's not...this story have similarities with Ramayana and Mahabharata. However, it's different from those books. In addition, I further brought the exploration of people's culture and their behavior showcasing a scene, where Akhil's grandfather tells him that, "Pandavas went to Forest for 13 years and 1 year into hide. While, Rama, Seetha and Lakshmana went for 13 years into forest as they got exiled. They explored the world and further realized, how to live in thus world, by managing people."

Though Brahmins only read Garuda Literature, chanted slogans and Bhagavat Gita, I have brought in that, "Even other caste people can read and learn the themes of such great books."

In a few scenes, I have brought that, "Caste never matters in love. It's love and affection, that makes us to lead a good life." Besides all these things, it's the Delhi Riots 2020, which explored the riots and bombings made by Muslims and Hindus.

Here, I told that, "Equality and unity is important for all. While bringing CAA act, 2020 government must be careful and analyze the side effects behind such acts..."

This story is Both a political and romance-drama. It doesn't come under the genre of thriller. I believe it to be romantic-drama, exploring various themes.....

A mythological story explaining about the theme of love and romance.


This is the 2nd book that I'm publishing on Wattpad. It is titled Tragedy Awaits, which will be served as a prequel to the apocalyptic story 2049. It is also a shared universe to my first story Lonely.
Tragedy Awaits is a psychological tragedy that is told in a non-linear perspective. Its style is in a form of an interview. Instead of focusing on a single individual, the story deals with significant tragedies that many people had gone through such as violence, sleep paralysis, stress, marriage issues, school shootings, prostitution, Coronavirus, the welfare of the world, and visions of the end of days. Its story revolves around the theme of resilience, which encompasses many different scenarios that were integrated with the character's mindsets. The story serves as a prequel to 2049, an action-fantasy drama that takes place at the end of days in the year 2049.
One of the first stories that I made on Wattpad was the short drama titled Lonely. The story follows an innocent child who lost both his home and his family in a massive earthquake. An angel named Fantasia came to his aid and healed his sadness by becoming friends with him and experience fun activities in an otherwise destroyed society. I decided to link Lonely as a shared story to Tragedy Awaits because I believe that my latter story will discuss the issues of resilience and what did people do to overcome hardships in their life. However, instead of a four-chapter short story, this story will be fifteen chapters long due to tackling social themes, despite one of its chapters focusing on the supernatural. I want to write a realistic story so that people can relate to it.
One of the famous singers that I love is Janet Jackson because she created an album called Rhythm Nation 1814 which explores a number of tragedies that are still relevant in today's society. Because of this, I see this album as an eye-opener due to its timeless socially conscious songs and the additional themes of love and perseverance. I also loved her other album The Velvet Rope because it deals with her depression and the idea of being treated as a real person with equal rights. I will use Rhythm Nation as an example of showing people's hopes, struggles, and insecurities.
Resiliency plays a huge part in my life because I love drawing art that showcases a person's struggle to find their importance in life. I, myself, am autistic but I'm high-functioned. However, despite that I'm less severe than other people with the same disorder, I don't treat them differently. My family, friends, and teachers all treat me with respect and I treat them with the same gratitude. In Tragedy Awaits, resiliency plays a huge factor because many people in real life experience nightmarish events that cause them to lose their loved ones and also risking their own wellbeing. However, instead of blaming and passing judgment on others, the people overcome adversaries by staying strong and making sure they have a clear focus on their surroundings.

Set in the year 2040 in Raleigh, the story is told in a non-linear interview style (though it will feature a song and a speech), focusing on various people who had experienced many tragedies throughout their lifetime. With stories that are enticed with deception, personal struggles, occultism, and a deep sense of fear, each citizen has gathered around in a restaurant called Harvest 18 to tell stories about their past and how it affected them in different ways. 

Dr. Bridges, a psychiatrist from Michigan, sets up counseling at Harvest 18 for patients that dealt with tragedies that affected them. Warm, helpful, and inviting, he offers great advice to patients on how to be resilient in difficult times. The series will be served as a prequel to the apocalyptic series 2049 which takes place nine years where a final battle for the end of the world will be staged. 

Tragedy Awaits is a psychological tragedy that is told in an interview style. Tackling dark social issues, its story revolves around the theme of resilience, which encompasses many different scenarios that each person had been through (i.e. family loss, paranoia, stress).

Dakota and I walked into our Honors English Literature class and took our seats. I got out a notebook and my Romeo and Juliet book, just when the bell rang. 
"So, can anyone tell us why we study Romeo and Juliet?" Ms. Burke asked, looking over the class. "Or any of William Shakespeare's works, for that matter?"
"Well, we study Romeo and Juliet to tell kids not to fake-kill themselves unless they tell someone first." Jerry Ellis, one of the class clowns, said and everyone laughed. 
"Well... yes... good point, Jerry." Ms. Burke never getting upset with students. That was probably why she was most of the students' favorite teacher. But we knew the line not to cross, and she gave us a bit more leeway. "But for what other reason is Romeo and Juliet still required reading in high schools today?"
"Because teachers like to torture us?" another student asked.
Ms. Burke smiled. "Well, that's beside the point." She looked around the room and no one answered. "Okay, then. Let's start with a simpler question. Why do we study Shakespeare's works over four hundred years after his death?"
"Reading the works of William Shakespeare is still relevant today," I replied, leaning forward in my desk.
Ms. Burke's eyes lit up as she pointed toward me. "Yes! Absolutely!"
"Yeah, but his work is so hard to understand," Jerry replied. "How is that relevant to us today? We have to work hard to decipher it before we can see what he's trying to say."
The class laughed again. 
"Yes, you're right," Mrs. Burke replied. "But... after you get through deciphering it...." She lifted her eyebrows, and everyone laughed. "The messages and themes of his works are universal and relevant for us today."
"How do you figure?" another student asked. 
"Well," Ms. Burke continued. "Take Romeo and Juliet. Young love is very powerful. Back then, as well as today, parents frown upon their children dating people of other classes, and sometimes other races. Back in Shakespeare's day, a difference in social classes was frowned upon." She walked down the aisle, keeping everyone's attention. "In Macbeth, you have the themes of order and disorder, evil, guilt and conscience, just to name a few." She looked around the room. "And who can tell me some of the themes in Romeo and Juliet?"
"Love and hate," Dakota replied, pretending like he was taking notes. He had probably actually studied Romeo and Juliet until he knew it forwards and backwards. 
"Yes...." Ms. Burke nodded. 
"Young and old," Jerry replied. 
Everyone started to laugh, but Mrs. Burke stopped them. "No, he's right. Don't you have different viewpoints than your parents?"
A rumble of agreement resounded within the class.
"Well, they did in Shakespeare's day, too. Also, the pull of first love is just as powerful today as it was years ago." Ms. Burke walked up the other aisle. "Okay, tell me more."
"Life and death," one student shouted.
"Fate and free will," another shouted.
"Yes! Excellent point!" Ms. Burke replied, heading up to the front of the class. "You all have a choice. You all have free will. Do you accept responsibility for the choices you make, or do you let life pull you this way and that, and call it fate?"
Silence filled the room as everyone pondered their life choices.
"You all have choices to make," Ms. Burke continued. "What is it that you want to do with your life? You might think that you're young yet and you have plenty of time. But you're graduating at the end of next year, and then you'll be out in the real world." She walked over to the Smartboard and wrote the following sentence on the board: How is William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet relevant to us today? Then she turned to face the class. "I want a five-paper essay on the topic on Monday."
There was a resounding groan from the class. 
Ms. Burke held up her hands. "I know, I know. Save it for your mammas...."
Everyone laughed. Suddenly the bell rang, and the students gathered their things, starting to leave.
"And don't forget to work on your essay!" Mrs. Burke called out as everyone left.
Dakota waited for me just outside the door after class, giving me one of his sexy looks as we slowly walked away. "So, what are you going to write about?"
I laughed. "Not a chance. Besides, I'll have to think about it." I reached over and held his hand. "What are you going to write about?"
He pulled me to the side, and I stood along the wall, looking into his eyes. He placed a hand on the wall beside me and moved closer, his lips nearly touching mine. "You." Then he turned abruptly and walked away, leaving me breathless. Then he looked over his shoulder one last time and gave me a cocky grin. "See you at lunch."
Yeah, right! How am I supposed to concentrate in my next class after that?

“Are you sure you’re going to be okay?” Michelle asked. I really must have looked bad for Michelle to be this concerned. “I can drive you home and my dad can follow us....” Michelle rambled on, but I could hardly hear what she was saying. The buzzing in my ears was now a roar, like a freight train running back and forth through my head from ear to ear.

“I have to go, Michelle,” I said, pulling away from the curb, barely giving her time to close the door as I sped off. But I didn’t make it home. I made it as far as Granby Lake when the shaking was so uncontrollable that I had to pull over.

I threw the car into park and the keys under the mat in the driver’s seat. My body was shaking and quivering as pain coursed throughout my body. I screamed, almost a howl, as I ran for the woods. I didn’t know why, but I had the sudden urge to run, to let the coolness of the evening air soothe my skin... to be free.

My body shook uncontrollably as I ran faster than I had ever run before into the forest. The quivering ran from my hands and traveled throughout my body as I ran even faster, pushing harder, losing control of my body. What was happening to me? I screamed as I looked down to see my hands shimmering, changing into giant silver paws, but my screams ended in a howl as the quivering traveled down the length of my body, morphing and changing every cell. By instinct, I leapt into the air and my clothes shredded into pieces. I landed on four paws, running even faster. To where? I didn’t know. Was I going crazy? I looked around and nothing looked familiar. Where was I?

“This can’t be happening to me!” I thought, sprinting through the forest into the Colorado Rockies, as variations of pine and aspen rushed pasted. If I were in my human form, I would have been crying. As it was, dampness seeped from my eyes, soaking the fur underneath. I was almost to Wyoming when I heard voices inside my mind. I am going crazy! I thought to myself, as my powerful claws dug into the lichen along the forest floor, propelling my body even faster. To where? I didn't know.
