His eyes gazed into hers, amused by her. 

She was trapped, and sat at the mercy of this man. “Do you understand how long it took to track you down?” He got up and walked around his dark wood desk to kneel in front of the demon so he was eye to eye with her. She remained silent, refusing to answer the question.

“Where do you come from?”


No answer.


“Why are you here?”


No answer.


“Who are you?”

“Who is your master?” 


No answer. 


The nobleman sighed, he was beginning to lose his patience with the otherworldly creature before him. “The mask on your face doesn’t prevent you from speaking. It prevents you from biting. Now I suggest you answer my questions before I send you back to hell where you belong.” He spoke as he gripped her chin and turned her face up to look him in the eyes. They were practically touching noses as his emerald green eyes pierced into her icy blue eyes.

'So how did you become a Hero?'

Her execution time was very near. Within a couple of days, she would be made example of within the city, Holy City prided itself on being a safe haven for humanity, a place where non-humans would face mistreatment and extermination.

Being a demon, she tried to help her kind. Her father happened to be the leader of the demons, the one with the title of Demon King, he led them against the humanity, with a plan to liberate the demon kind. But sadly, her father was fatally wounded by humans, and as his heir, she was entrusted by him the power of Demon King. In his dying breath, he asked her to protect the demon kind.

She did just that.

Years of leading her kind, fighting against humans, liberating the enslaved demons, she did all she could in order to protect the demon kind. But it was not enough. In previous battles, several of her generals, the Demon Lords, have perished. Only a few remained.

In the last battle between the demons and humans, the demons were defeated. She sacrificed herself so that her generals, the Demon Lords can escape. She knew that they would be able to find a better leader, but demons strong enough to be Demon Lords are rare. Losing their leader is a better price to pay than to lose the Demon Lords, who embody the power of demons. If she let all Demon Lords die, then the demon kind would be demoralized.

She knew she was being foolish, but in her heart she knew that she would rather die than let any more demons perish.

Letting her allies flee, she fought against the human knights. She fought fiercely, but they overwhelmed her with numbers and in the end, they captured her.

Bound by mana binding chains and doused with holy water, she was weakened as the knights took her to the Holy City, a place her kind could not hope to enter without suffering immense damage.

This was the end game, the last place she would see before her demise.

Apparently they thought that she was one of the Demon Lords, not the King, apparently they thought the king was male. She made sure that they wouldn't find out, otherwise, it would spell disaster. If the news of Demon King being executed is allowed to spread, then the demon kind will suffer and all the hopes of demons will vanish.

She could not let that happen. No. Her death must be only counted as death of one of the Demon Lords, that way the demon kind would still have hope that the Demon King is still alive. If the demon kind loses hope, then they would have lost everything.

No matter how much they tortured her, she said nothing, not even when they used lighting magic to interrogate her. She knew that they wanted her alive and whole for the execution, but enduring the pain of the lightning magic shocking and electrocuting through her body was no easy task. But still, she endured, and not a single word came from her mouth.

This prison, it was a prison for demons and criminals, of that she was sure.

The other prisoners were of no importance, if they died from torture they were disposed of. She could feel that every day, many prisoners died here, their screams audile inside the cell where her hands, legs and wings were cuffed.

Her eyes were bound with cloth, to prevent her from using her demon eyes. Her sight sealed, able to only hear her surroundings, she waited for her impending doom.

However, it seems like fate had something else in store for her.

She heard a sound of a body dropping on the ground. A brief scream, followed by another body falling. Then, a sound of a mad laughter echoed through the room.

There were many guards in the prison, most of them were knights. The commotion outside could only mean that someone was fighting, and the sound of body falling could only mean one thing, someone perished.

But who? Did the intruders or the knights die? What was going on? She could hear more and more noises, clashes of swords, slashes, blood spurting, more bodies falling lifelessly. More messed up laughter followed.

Now, even the guards guarding the room she was in started to feel concerned, because now the sounds outside the room suddenly came to a dead silence. The guards, fully armed, went outside the room. They closed the door behind them.

She could hear a sound of a battle. Screams, shouts, they lasted for a thirty seconds, before they also died down. In the end, the sound of clownish laughter was all that remained.

Then, the door to the room was cut open; it now fell down towards the floor.

A single sound of footsteps could be heard.

"Well, this cloak of concealment is useless now." Sound was followed by a light chuckle.

It was a man's voice. The sound of fabric tearing could be heard. Then he proceeded to throw the fabric on the floor.

"Well, I will cut to the chase, you are obviously demon, are you Arin Draco?"  he asked after momentarily stopping his laughter.

She gasped. How did he know her name? His voice was not familiar. He was not one of the Demon Lords, what was going on?

"So you are Arin Draco. I see, a female, I thought it was a male name."

He started to approach closer and closer. She shivered, was he here to kill her? If so, she hoped it would be quick death.

"I am not here to harm you. I am here to free you." He said as his face was not on the same level with hers.

She could not see his face. But she could feel his breath. He again started to laugh uncontrollably. She felt scared of that laughter.

"You are not one of the Demon Lords…Who are you?"

"Who am I? Excellent question…Indeed I am not one of the Demon Lords…so you can call me…the Dark Lord."

He now took off the bandage off her eyes, allowing her to finally see his face.

It was a face of a human being, with no horns, but his left eye was glowing red in the darkness of the room. His face was smiling, but she could sense massive murderous intent emanating from his body.

Fear spread from the tips of her toes to the top of her horns. He scared her. This human scared her, Arin Draco, the Demon King.

"No worries, I already killed everyone on my way here."

Dark Lord gestured at the entrance. Countless corpses decorated the hallway in deep crimson color of blood.

"Lord, can I come out now?" a snake type demon showed its head out of the doorway.

"Feel free to, but we are leaving anyways, so, just make sure to tell me if you can sense anyone approaching."

"Yes, milord." The snake demon eagerly complied.

As the Dark Lord brandished a crystal dagger and started to cut off the chains Arin Draco was bound by, Arin Draco couldn't help but think:

Have I been saved or doomed? Who is he? What does he want from me? Why has someone calling himself with a preposterous name as Dark Lord has come to free me?

Arin Draco knew that this Dark Lord fellow was extremely dangerous, but at the moment she was glad he was not her adversary.

In the living room, Nangong Wuyue and Nangong Sanba sat on the couch while the rest were directly opposite them. The atmosphere felt a bit like a court proceeding. It was awkward.
However, the most awkward thing was the one with the flashy name, Nangong Sanba...
"Okay, laugh all you want." Nangong Sanba sighed. He noticed the expression on their faces. Y'zaks had no clue what was going on because he was from a foreign world. "It's not the first time I wanted to change my name."
"It's your real name, huh?" Hao Ren tactfully expressed his surprise. "It doesn't matter what name you've got. If you look on the internet, you'll find tons of people with even funnier names like Hammer Wang, Dog Egg Lee and etc. But, I've never heard any demon hunter with this name."
Of course, he did not express all this thoughts: while Nangong Wuyue had a beautiful name—poetic as well as elegant, her brother's name was the anti-climactic Nangong Sanba. Being a demon hunter, he had to be one of the dark forces' major bosses. Antagonists always had bossy and bombastic names. Yet, this guy before him was a Sanba or a fool! The name suggested that he would not make a good demon hunter—it was like a demon with 'noble' in its name.
However, he kept the thought to himself; he did not want to further upset Nangong Sanba and also Y'zaks about his not-so-happy past.
"It was my mom," said Nangong Wuyue as she helplessly glanced at her brother. "She wasn't an educated woman. She named us based on the month we were born. My brother was born on 8th of March so, she named him Nangong Sanba (Sanba—'three eight' literally means 8th of March in Chinese but, it also carries another connotation: foolish). As I was born in the middle of May the following year, she wanted to name me Nangong Wuyue Shiwu (Wuyue Shiwu means 15th of May in Chinese) but, it sounded too wordy so, she decided to simplify it to Nangong Wuyue... It's that simple."
Hao Ren glanced at Nangong Sanba. "Hey...'Sanba' isn't really a bad word after all. But, it's weird to call a master like you 'Sanba'. You can always change your name. Maybe you should."
Nangong Sanba's face turned solemn. "We were born to our parents, and we will live with our given names. How could I go against the wishes of our parents? When I said I wanted to change my name, it was just a thought. I'd never do it."
Hao Ren was astounded. He looked at the demon hunter and thought: a demon hunter should have a good name that matched his stature. A good name would go a long way, and was so much cooler than the crap he had just uttered.
"My brother's as stubborn as a mule." Nangong Wuyue let out a sigh as she said, "Relax, Sister Vivian. My brother isn't like other demon hunters. He wouldn't find trouble with you because he's no match for any of you after all, except Rollie. Oh, speaking of which, Rollie hasn't slept yet."
The black and white cat was meandering around the living room when it heard its name being mentioned. It halted in its step, meowed and stared suspiciously at Nangong Sanba as if it was studying the new tenant. Vivian waved and signaled the cat to come to her. She cuddled and caressed it in her arms. At the same time, she looked up and glanced at Nangong Wuyue. "Is it because he's a mixed-blood so, he doesn't possess the full ability of a demon hunter?"
During their trip to England, Nangong Sanba was already known to them as a half-baked demon hunter. Vivian presumed that he was a normal person with some demon-hunter knowledge. However, Vivian was wrong. He was the real deal albeit a mixed-blood demon hunter.
"Lineage is one thing. Another reason is, there was a break in inheritance during my dad's time." Nangong Wuyue was not hiding her past anymore. She bared it all. "As you may have already known, demon hunters and humans are different. They're different yet, they share similarities. Demon hunters live as long as the other-kind. They marry only their own kind. Newly-born demon hunters receive the gift and injection of power from their parents.. Then, they start to train under their parents and fight weaker evil spirits as well as demons on their own when they turn 12. When they become 16, they leave their parents and learn from other senior demon hunters for a further three to five years. They are introduced to other demon hunters at the same time. After that, they are finally integrated into the community, recognized and accepted as one of their own. This was always the case up to my grandparents' generation."
"But, when it came to my dad's generation, something went wrong: both my grandparents passed away in an accident when my dad was just 13 years old. In that same year, an organized revolt of the other-kind erupted in Asia. The demon hunter community was in chaos. My dad was still a child and before he was even introduced to the other seniors, he was separated from them, losing all contact with the demon hunter community."
Vivian nodded as if she was in deep thought. "Thirteen years old... Still a rookie, not very obstinate yet. He probably doesn't have a strong prejudice against the other-kind. A demon hunter is after all also a creature with feelings and emotions."
With her arms open, Nangong Wuyue said, "So, that's the story. From my dad's generation onwards, we've had zero contact with the demon hunter community. After living as a vagrant for a few years, my dad met my mom. Then, 'something' happened and they were together."
Once Nangong Wuyue began talking, the floodgates opened and she let out everything about her past; good and bad. Perhaps, she felt better this way after she hid her past previously. Although Hao Ren did not mind, Nangong Wuyue obviously took it to heart.
Vivian finally understood all about the unique couple and the half-baked demon hunter: he was not just a mixed-blood but, he also did not have a complete set of abilities.
"The inheritance was broken since my father's time." Nangong Sanba smiled awkwardly. "After my mom and dad married, contacting the demon hunter community became a taboo. They lived a hermit's life in the forest to avoid being detected by other demon hunters or the other-kind. I learned my skills from my dad. The most complete set of skills he taught me were runes and these—"
As he said that, he flipped his jacket open and revealed a small crossbow, some strange blades, bottles of drugs, wooden sticks, etc., all hidden inside. "Sorcery props. These were the things my dad was good at. I can make these things but, I'm not familiar with their usage. Most props need mind power to work. I never learned it because dad didn't know how to teach it to me."
"What do you think of the other-kind?" It was one of the subjects Vivian felt should be made clear upfront.
"I'd be faking it if I told you I'm a lover of peace, who'd like to see a united world." Nangong Sanba extended his arms. "But, let me tell you frankly, I don't see the other-kind as enemies unless they come to me looking for trouble first."
There were many things Hao Ren still did not understood about the lone demon hunter. "Are you in contact with other demon hunters? You've been alone all this while? Do they know your existence?"
"Of course, I'm alone. To be honest, I don't feel a thing about those pure-blood demon hunters. I know who I am—they'll start coming to me looking for trouble if I get myself exposed," said Nangong Sanba as he nodded. "The demon hunter fraternity is just a loosely organized community now. Although they're slightly more close-knitted than the other-kind, it's out of convenience for their call to hunt down 'demons'. Other than that, they always act alone like a solo hunter. So, a lone-wolf demon hunter like me won't stand out. Even if we bump into each other, I'd just look like any other demon hunter; when questioned, I always pretend that I'm from another zone, and I'm on a mission," said Nangong Sanba as he he smiled. "They never suspect their own kind."
Hao Ren nodded as if his doubts had been cleared up. But somehow, he felt that the Nangongs were still hiding something.
Vivian seemed to have the same thought. "You two aren't wandering around just for the purpose of sightseeing, aren't you?"

~Hello darkness, my old friend~
Oh, hi, let me introduce myself. My name is Ender. Once I was a human, but then I died. I thought I could finally relax in heaven but I was wrong. I thought I get to meet a hot Goddess and get some crazy overpowered cheat or many wishes which would help me get the harem of girls from every anime I wanted, but NO. Nothing like that happened.  
The next thing I see is that I am standing in some kind of dark place. I look around and see some kind of monster coming towards me. 
I panicked and try to run like many humans would do, but I fall to the ground. The monster lands and speaks to me: "What kind of demon are you? I never saw one like you before." I turned to look at him and my eyes went wide. Before me stood a big red demon. Demon, because I recognized him. He had a smile on his face. 
"Hello, my name is Galand the Truth. My friends call me, Galand. Tell me what kind of demon are you?" I lost my voice as I couldn't say a word. "Scared of me are ya? Don't be, I am quite a nice guy as long as you don't lie to me. Now calm down and tell me what kind of demon you are." 
I started to breathe slower. Deep, slow breaths. I looked at him: "I don't know." I thought I was human. Why should I be a demon?  
He frowned: "Hmm, you don't lie or it would turn you to stone. Well, maybe looking into a mirror gives you an idea. Let's go." I didn't have time as he took me over his shoulder and then I saw myself flying. What was the best thing I could do? 
Right, I screamed like hell but Galand put his hand over my mouth to shut me up. The only thing I knew was that I somehow ended up in the demon realm of Seven Deadly Sins. How unfortunate. 
Somewhere in the demon realm. 
I was dropped rudely on the ground. "Hey Melascula, do you have a mirror? I have a guest who wants to see how he looks like." Galand said as he walked into her house. "I told you to knock before you come into my house," said an angry-looking Melascula. 
When I saw her, my eyes widened. She looked so beautiful with her long violet hair. Her black eyes radiated some kind of mysterious energy and her skin was so smooth. I think I have fallen in love with a demon. 
She turned to me, and I froze. "You must be the new demon born from the darkness. Few are like you. Come, let me give you a mirror." She walked into a room and came out with a huge mirror. "Here, take a look at your appearance." 
As I glanced at the mirror, I was shocked. In the mirror, I saw an Enderman looking at me. 'Impossible. How can I be an Enderman? I was a human and now I am in the demon realm as an Enderman. Is this some kind of jock?' I stood at about two meters in height. My whole body was black. To my fortune, I had fingers. I had long legs and arms with violet eyes. "So how should we call you," asked Galand. 
A name shot out of my mouth: 
"Ender." 
It was short for Enderman so I could live with that. "Well, nice to meet you, Ender. As you are a demon born from darkness, we have to bring you to the Demon King. If he likes you and your strength, he could give you a high position in the order. As you are born from the darkness, he could give you a commandment," spoke Melascula. 
I panicked. Off all demons, I didn't want to meet the King. He and his stupid war with the Goddess clan were so stupid and unnecessary. Like, come on, just have sex with that Supreme Deity and it will solve all your problems. Instead, they fought for years and no one was on the right side. 
"All right time up. Let's go, Ender." Galand took me again, against my will, and he and Mirascula took me to the Demon King. 
Demon King castle. 
The castle was enormous. I saw many red and grey demons flying around. "This way. You also have the privilege to meet one of his sons, Meliodas, our captain," said Mirascula. 
As I walked more in the demon realm, I started to get used to it. The darkness around the castle helped me calm down. It went into my body calming my mind or I would already scream for help. As we entered through a giant door, I saw the Demon King sitting on his throne and beside him stood Meliodas. Well, not the one I saw in the series. He had a grim look on his face as he looked at me probably thinking how to use me.
"So he is the new demon born out of the darkness? Doesn't look to me like he is strong," said Meliodas. The Demon King stood up. I trembled from his mere existence. His presence suffocated me. "You are the last demon born from the darkness. Tell me, child, what is your name?" 
"My name is Ender, my king," I stuttered. "Good, Ender. I have a mission for you. I want to see how strong you are. Fight against my son, Meliodas." Somewhere deep inside my body, I wanted to die. The Demon King wanted me to fight his son, Meliodas. "My King, I don't think I am worthy to fight Meliodas-sama. He would defeat me easily," I stuttered. 
The pressure got stronger: "I know you will lose. I just want to see how you survive. Now fight." As soon as the Demon King said that Meliodas flung towards me and attacked me with his darkness sword. I closed my eyes and awaited my death. 
What could I do? I was a human who had to fight demon Meliodas. What could I possibly do? As I opened my eyes, thinking I was in heaven, I saw that I stood next to Melascula. 'Huh?' Meliodas smirked: "So you decided to run. Clever choice. Let's see if you can do so forever." His speed increased, and I closed my eyes again. When I opened them after a second, I stood a few meters from the demon king. 
"Fight me!" shouted Meliodas. A massive amount of darkness flew toward me. This time I didn't close my eyes, growing confident, to see what happens. Wrong move. I should have kept my eyes closed as the darkness hit me and I felt hurt all over my body. "Finally starting to fight?" 
I tried to think about what happened. Then I remembered. I was an Enderman. I could teleport. I saw Meliodas attacking me and I thought about teleporting to Melascula. My vision went dark and the next thing was that I stood next to her."
"Teleportation. What an annoying ability," grumbled Meliodas. Meliodas increase his speed, hitting me all over my body, not giving me time to teleport. I cried inside, but I did not want to die. 
Meliodas attacked, and I thought about Meliodas back and then I stood there. I looked at my black hand, clutching it into a fist and hit Meliodas into the back. 
Well, a hit was exaggerated. Rather, it was like somebody hit you with a feather. 
"You call that a hit? Demon babies could hit stronger than you!" shouted Meliodas and went for my head. "That's enough!" I heard the voice of the Demon King and I was thankful that Meliodas stopped a few centimeters from my head. "He passed my son. He hit you, despite it being so weak. Both of you come here." I walked next to Meliodas who glared daggers at me. 
"Ender, you have shown remarkable speed for a new demon. You also managed to hit my son, despite being a coward who ran away you still attacked. With that, I bestow upon you a new commandment." 
"Do you know which kind?" I asked. I didn't know how the Demon King did it so I just asked. Meliodas was getting furious and the audacity with how I talked to his father. 
"I only make one. The commandment itself will activate when it fuses with you giving you power. You will know how it is called and what ability it has. Other abilities you have to unlock by training." The black orb flew into my chest and it felt like someone poured memories into my mind. "So what kind of commandment did you get?" asked Meliodas. 
I looked at him as I stoke my head and laughed stupidly: "It is called The Commandment of Cowardice." Meliodas has a grin on his face. "Truly a commandment fitting for someone like you." The Demon King asked what power it has. "Well, it only said that if I don't attack my enemy, I won't get hurt by them." It was the first time I heard Meliodas laugh and the others snicker. 
"What a useless commandment! We need the power to fight the archangels, not some coward who sits at the back and watches. What can we do with that against the Goddess clan?" said Meliodas. 
The Demon King shouted: "Enough! He has a commandment and will be under your command my son. Train him into a strong demon." I felt a shiver running down my spine as I saw the sadistic grin Meliodas made. 
'Oh, what have I done to deserve this.'

Dying is one thing but being reborn as an Enderman in the Demon Realm? Watch as Ender tries to survive the horror of living as a demon. Maybe being a coward has its perks.

In a remote little village, there is such a grotesque legend.
