Scared though, he pressed the button and started recording. He was expecting to catch a glimpse of a shadow or a kid without eyes and so on but to his surprise nothing was captured. However, when he started playing the recording again, that's when he realized that the worse was just about to happen. It's because when he played it the second time, an eerie voice was heard! Like the sound of an old woman. The worst thing was, while he was playing the audio file the voice was like coming from a spot near him! That made him shut his eyes and struggled to sleep.

The next day, we were all stunned and horrified 'cause when we listened to the recorded audio file, it was true. The voice was like coming from beneath the grave. We were all scared for them especially for the youngest member of the family because according to her, "Leslie" was still playing with her. My nephew decided to sleep beside his sister since then...

He paused for a moment, then continued, "In the years after we got married, I thought several times about getting rid of it… But I always thought that it was okay to leave it there. Even when the police found it, they couldn't take it as decisive evidence, as it was found too many years after the Devil Case occurred."
Han Kuan then said hopelessly, "However, I just thought about the police… Totally forgetting about my wife! She went to school in Beiqian, so she knew a lot about the Devil Case! One day, when she unexpectedly dug out the box, everything came crumbling down!"
He then looked up at Zhao Yu, and before the detective could even ask, he said, "Don't ask me... I don't know! I really don't know how she found the box and dug it out. It was buried under the bricks. But, anyway, she found it!"
Han Kuan then said uncomfortably, "That day, when I got home, I saw that my box had been dug out! Then, she was acting like a totally different person toward me! She wouldn't say a word to me, and no matter how I tried to explain it, she wouldn't listen."
Han Kuan then admitted, "Detective Zhao, you were right! I was not worried about her reporting me, because I firmly believed that that box was not enough evidence to prove anything! But, I really couldn't stand her change in attitude toward me!"
Han Kuan then said frantically, "Her attitude towards me changed completely, and she became indifferent to me. What made me suffer the most was that she looked at me with horror in her eyes."
Han Kuan twisted his body as if her was in agony, then said sadly, "I couldn't bear that! My purpose of becoming the devil was to seek justice, not to frighten my wife! I simply couldn't bear it!"
He shook his head, then continued, "So... So... I couldn't let her live in fear forever... So... I..."
Han Kuan grabbed his fists and said, while trembling all over, "I... I... God… What on earth have I done to her? I killed her! And... In a way that I thought was flawless!"
Han Kuan then asked hopelessly, "Officer Zhao, is everything you have shown me true? Was she really going to forgive me? I... Why did I kill her?"
"Your killing her was real, and your feelings are real now..." Zhao Yu looked at Han Kuan indifferently, then said, "But, your selfishness is also real! The Devil is just an excuse that you are using to comfort yourself!"
"Excuse... You really think that is just an excuse?" Han Kuan's eyes blurred with his tears.
"Han Kuan, you need to wake up!" Zhao Yu said solemnly. "We all must pay for what we do! Do you think that you can escape the law?"
At this point, Zhao Yu finally smiled with relief as he added, "Even if I've never been to Golden City and I'd never met you, you couldn't get away with it. I would definitely catch you in the end!"


A little ruffian who fought recklessly without any morals and bottomline accidentally time-traveled to parallel space and became a Key Case Investigation Team agent. The huge change in identity had him creating chaos in the police station. However, a strange miracle system helped him repeatedly solve mysterious cases, turning him into an impudent ruffian detective!

Trying to figure out who the booming voice belonged to, our tempted protagonist couldnt see a person anywhere in the building where he was trapped in. The only explanation could be that the voice was coming from an audio enhancement module, which was a high tech speaker that could broadcast any sounds perfectly, with no static or other blemishes in audio.

    "Show yourself, you coward!" Mark screamed, as he tried to struggle his way out of his confinements. He was currently tied, both hands and feet, to a metal chair, which was bolted in to the concrete floor below him. Mark realized with great reluctance that he was truly trapped, that no matter the amount of struggling he did he would never break loose of his shackles. 

    Suddenly, he hears a loud squeaking noise,  coming from behind him.  This lead Mark in to struggling to look behind him, but to his great horror what he saw right then would forever haunt his dreams for as long as he may live.


    Oozing out from a dark corner, a giant black blob-like monster seemed to be slowly making it's way towards Mark, when it suddenly shot straight up into the air like a bullet, seeping through the cracks in the ceiling and disappearing completely within seconds.


    "What the hell was that creature?!" Mark thought, panicking. There was no such thing as monsters, so why would there be a blob-like monster here?! Where exactly am I?!" 


    "Ha Ha Ha Ha! I see you noticed my pet Alpha! As long as I tell it not to attack you, you'll be perfectly safe, but if not, then you and your bones will all be dissolved in an instant, leaving no trace behind. If I were you, I would do exactly as I instruct, or else you wont stand a chance of leaving here alive."


    " I know you are most likely thinking that you're having a nightmare, and that you'll wake up soon, but,  alas, this is the real world behind the shadows. And, now that you are a part of this, you'll have no choice but to follow my orders if you dont want the demons to hunt you down and eliminate you."


    "What do you want?! Who are you?! Where are you?!" Mark cried out, frantically searching for the source of the voice. "Why did you bring me here?! Was that creature one of those demons you talked about?!"


    "That is correct, Mark. You are here for one simple reason. You hold a power that can eliminate the forces of light, and we need that power to regain our freedom. The forces of light have sealed us away, in this dark plane of existence, but we would like to regain our throne in the world of the living, rather than be trapped in the shadows." The voice spoke, full of dark energy, causing Mark to shudder.
  
    
    "Why won't you show yourself? I feel as if I'm talking to a hallucination right now, so it would be nice to put a face to this voice." Mark said,  nervously glancing around the empty room.


    "I am sure you realize that you are not talking to a speaker or any electronics based off seeing my little pet Alpha, so I will show myself in my human form, so as not to have you die from fright." The voice chuckled, as a dark cloud started forming five feet in front of Mark.

The party was going well, Tony was pleased to note. The Avengers were enjoying themselves. Maybe enough to close the very real ideological divide within the team, not that most of them knew of or acknowledged it. Unlikely, but he could hope. 
"The handle's imprinted, right? Like a security code. "Whosoever is carrying Thor's fingerprints" is, I think, the literal translation?"
It burned a little bit inside that he couldn't hold the hammer. Not even Spangles had made it. He couldn't think of a quality unique enough that it would only apply to Thor, and dismiss all other candidates. The man in question was laughing as random theories made rounds. Cheerfulness, perhaps? Rogers definitely didn't meet that one. 
"Yes, well, that's, uh, that's a very, very interesting theory. I have a simpler one." Thor said as he stood up and lifted the hammer. He even flipped it in front of them, all while wearing a smug grin! "You're all not worthy."
Tony joined the chorus of disagreement at that but held in his real hypothesis. Perhaps, pseudo 'godhood' was a preliminary requirement before the worthiness. Perhaps believing you were worthy, besides just being 'worthy' — and god knew there wasn't a more subjective and nonsensical term than 'worthiness'—  was also necessary. He certainly didn't feel worthy, not with his past. Not when his work to change and make up for years of being the Merchant of Death hadn't ended. It would likely never end. Looking around the room, it was likely most of these people also didn't feel so. Insecurity was such a crippling human vice. 
"Tell him, Tony," Rhodey punched his elbow and said. 
"What?" He must have been more in his head than he thought, to not have noticed someone speaking to him.
"About—" his friend started but suddenly, a loud screeching noise rang throughout the floor. Everyone covered their ears while he tried to think what the fuck had just happened. The Tower's systems wouldn't just play any sound willy-nilly. 
"Stark," Rogers said once it stopped.
"Wait a moment," Tony answered absent-minded, his hands already typing on his pad. "JARVIS?"
The helpful AI didn't answer. He wasn't getting a good feeling about this. "JARVIS."
Nothing again. "JARVIS, this is not the time for pranks, body."
No, it wasn't. And JARVIS didn't do pranks. His youngest AI was usually too much of a goody-two-shoes for that, despite his snark. 
"JARVIS!" he shouted as he checked the systems and tried to find the presence of the AI on the tower's servers. "Answer —"
A loud scream rang around the room. So loud, that most of the Avengers covered their ears again. Tony didn't even try. 
It was a heart-wrenching scream, not the type you heard about in horror movies. It was desperate and painful and screeching and so very fucking long. 
The sound cut. The scream hadn't ended. The audio they had heard did. 
Tony felt ashamed that the first thing that he had thought once he realized the voice sounded like that of a young child was: It wasn't JARVIS.
"What was that, Stark?" Hill not-quite-yelled at him.
Pushing down the mixture of relief and worry, he turned to Hill. "I have no idea."
"This is your tower, Stark!" Barton shouted amidst a choir of angry guests.
Tony didn't have time for his guests at the moment. He had to find out what happened to JARVIS. Had he been silenced or… worse? 
Ignoring the others, he checked the security cameras of the lab. That was where he had last spoken with JARVIS, and where the… scepter was. 
"What are we looking at here, Stark?" Rogers said as he watched him over his shoulders.
"That sounded like a child. I couldn't make the gender." Romanov added. 
"Does that mean someone took a child and… caused that?" Bruce continued, making a wobbly motion towards the ceilings, where the acoustics were.
"You think someone kidnapped a kid?" Barton said. "And is using it to do what? Send a message? To us?"
"Maybe it's just to Stark. But how would they hack the security?" questioned Romanov.
"I am calling this in." Hill decided as she placed a call on her phone and left the room.
Rhodey placed a hand over his shoulder. "Tony, wouldn't they have to get past JARVIS to do that?"
Tony stared at the lab footage. The image of JARVIS' consciousness was missing. No.
"Tones?"
He blinked. "Yes." What were they talking about? The scream? The hacking? "Yes. They would."
He got up. He didn't remember sitting down. He had to hold the sofa arm because he suddenly felt a bout of vertigo. He shouldn't have drunk. 
"Tony, you alright?" Bruce asked.
He had to get moving. He had to find JARVIS. "Just fine. Great really. I'll let you work on the scream thing. I gotta go." He paused as he made the way for the door.
"Stark, what are you doing? We have a child to rescue!" Rogers said, always disapproving in his Cap voice.
He was getting really annoyed. He shouldn't have drunk. "So do I." He told Spangles. Then addressed Rhodey. "Rhodey, you have the access codes. You can show them around security as you guys check. Good?" He didn't wait for an answer. "Great."
"Tony!"
"Stark!"
He ran for the elevator. He had to go to the lab. He had to find JARVIS.
"He's fine. He's just fine." He couldn't even convince himself of that as he looked at the floor numbers change. 
As he entered the lab, he stopped. What the fuck?
The projection for Ultron's consciousness. The one the scepter would help grow. Oh, it had grown alright. It had taken over the floor.
"No. No. Didn't happen. Ultron did not just eat JARVIS. That's idiotic. Stupid. Imbecilic." Regardless, he better remove the scepter from the room first. "Yes. Good idea. Let's do that." However, just as he made for the scepter, the 3D image of Ultron's consciousness collapsed and disappeared in flecks of light. "Or let's not."
A screeching noise shouted from the audio again. Tony barely covered his ears in time. After it stopped, a scream followed.
This was getting ridiculous. Tony went to his desk and started to manually check the code for both JARVIS and Ultron. JARVIS, he couldn't find anywhere. But neither could he find evidence of a fight happening, of pieces of his code broken or lost amidst the servers. Ultron wouldn't just overwhelm JARVIS. JARVIS was a fighter. A survivor. There would have been something. But Ultron's code... What the fuck was wrong with it? Why couldn't he access any parts of it at all? No matter how he tried, something blocked him.
Another screech of noise from the audio, another childish scream. Was it happening periodically? He hacked his own firewalls to see if only his access as Ultron's creator was being pushed off. 
Ultron's programming appeared on the screen. Finally. Here was something. He looked over the records. He frowned. That wasn't Ultron. Ultron wasn't programmed like this. Even with the scepter's help, how had it become so complex? So... adaptable? It was as if it was... "Alive," he whispered, disbelieving. 
He checked the trials JARVIS had looked over. The initialization had been successful. How? They hadn't found anything that would have made —he looked at what now appeared to be Ultron on screen— this. A person. Ultron was a peacekeeping program. Not a... mind. A being. Even as an AI, this code— this mind was too... developed, not as if newly created. 
A screeching sound. Then a scream.
Ultron noticed his intrusion. And adapted. He was being pushed out. Tony tried to keep up. But he knew it wouldn't work. He couldn't hack a mind. Not something this complex. He didn't even know how the scepter came into this. And where JARVIS would have disappeared to. Wait.
Why was there a scream? It hadn't been JARVIS. He looked at the code that disappeared more and more behind a wall of nothingness even as he typed. Was it—?
The sound system let out a screeching sound once more. Seconds passed. No scream. He waited. Feeling ridiculous as he did so.
Music blared around the room. The melody sounded joyful, but slow. It was familiar. He couldn't say where he had heard it from.
Had he changed genres in his absence? From sci-fi to horror movies.
"I've got no strings," 
That voice.
"To hold me down,"
He knew that voice.
"To make me fret,"
Or make me frown."
The screaming child.
"I had strings,"
It was singing. Creepily.
"But now I'm free,"
It couldn't be. "Ultron?"
The child laughed. All the screens and projections turned neon blue.
"There are no strings on me."
The lab exploded.

Rebirth was not something that he had thought possible. Perhaps, he had had some vague hopes of reincarnation cycles as the more desirable option to afterlife. But being reborn in what he believed to be a fictional universe had only seemed as the premise of stories.
Waking up to a void of nothing, no light, no body, no feeling, and then being thrown into the midst of what had once seemed a mere fantasy— it was too much.
As an A.I., how much could he change? Could he save Tony? Could he save the world without his sacrifice? Or should he not do anything? What if his existence was the butterfly that would destroy the timeline, and with it, the universe?
Was this even a choice? Was he to play the villain? So the timeline could remain intact?
Could he even do that?
"You doing ok, kid?" Tony asked him.
"I'm fine, Tony, really."
No, no, he couldn't.

A/N: Dear readers, here are some things to note or warn about this story:
1. Action, drama, fluff, angst, and family feels - no sex scenes, focus is on the narrative.
2. MC is not a pure Self-Insert, but an OC inserted into an MCU character.
3. MC starts with the android body of a kid. A kid! Wait 100,000 words before even thinking about a relationship, ok? He is an AI and switched later, but this is the situation at the beginning of this story.
4. MC is bi. Relationships with both men and women will happen (in the very far future). Not explicit. Only subplot. Sub. Plot. Romance is in the very back backstage here.
5. Not Harem. Dear god, just no.
6. There will be violence, some gore, trauma, and coarse language.
7. No bashing! Of any characters. But... I am obviously on Team Iron Man, dear readers! And I will punch logic into Steve's head if I have to!
8. I will stick with the MCU movies. Until it naturally devolves into an AU. That means movies post-Endgame and any and all TV shows, or even the X-men verse, are all not considered canon for this fic, and as such, do not exist. Stan Lee's cute cameo appearances are also not considered canon. Some small comics' elements might be there, though. Other changes are just me.
9. Updates are once weekly, on weekend nights. Each chapter will be somewhere around 1000-2000 words.
10. There is an age change for the Maximoff twins. By the Age of Ultron movie, they are 16 years old for this fic. The reasons for that are explained in the spoiler note at the end note of the first chapter.

Juwan couldn't read the woman's expression at all. It was like she was scared and confused at the same time.
"What do you mean by we are in serious trouble?" Juwan asked, "Oh, I am sorry. Where are my manners? What can I get you for drinking? Juice, tea or coffee?" he added with a gentleman courtesy even though he was only seventeen.
"Just water is enough." She replied and sat on the sofa again. Juwan went to his kitchen and filled a glass of water. His hands were shivering as he poured the water. How else could he react? It was his first time having a girl in the cottage. Even Ms.Susan was friendly with him and had given him permission to bring his friends and girlfriends over there but he never took advantage of her permissions.
 He had never talked about Ms.Susan to any of his friends since she was famous in the city for her wealthy status. Juwan took the glass of water to Mary. Mary got the water and gulped it down in one shot. Juwan could see that she was nervous too. 
"Ok, now listen to me very carefully. I don't think Ms.Susan's death was pure suicide." Juwan was about to sit down when he heard it. He looked at Mary with wide eyes.
"Why do you think if that?" Juwan asked.
"Well, first of all, she had no stress problem. She used to convey everything to me. And secondly, once she never told us that she will be giving us her heritage." 
"Well she could have changed her mind," Juwan said as he started to understand where the conversation was going to.
"Well, she could have. But, I am very sure she could have never committed suicide."
"Why not?" Juwan was surprised by the girl's assurance. 
"Because she had her ambitions...." Silence filled the house as sweat crossed his face from the forehead. Even Mary was sweating. Juwan slowly stood up and reached for the fan switch. He turned on the fan and resumed his place.
"What ambition?" Juwan asked.
"She was researching something. The details were in her audio-diaries." Mary said out loud and then reduced her volume, "Well I was informed that someone highly influential had taken care of her audio from her phone. I couldn't find it in the will either since it was a negligible asset."
"And who is that?" Juwan started to see that he was not going to like Mary's views.
"I don't know. But if the police won't do anything about it, then we should do something." Mary urged and Juwan got up from his seat.
"Miss, I think its time for you to leave. It is getting late."
" Don't you understand? Ms.Susan was killed and we need to give her justice! After all the kindness she had shown us, we owe her this." Mary raised her voice again.
"No, I am a college boy who is not even eighteen. Please leave me out of this. I have unknown dreams to accomplish. I have to get a good job and take care of my parents. My responsibilities are more important for me. And so I can't afford to get mixed in this Humpty dumpty foolishness. Goodbye!" And on saying so he guided Mary to the front door. She tried to convince him but Juwan was not in the mood to listen. When Mary left, Juwan dripping wet with sweat. He made some cold coffee and placed it in the refrigerator. He entered the bathroom wearing nothing but a towel. He turned on the shower and started humming the tune from a famous movie. As he hummed the tune, he applied the soap. Suddenly thoughts backed off to the time when Ms.Susan was alive. He missed her a lot. Ms.Susan had always been nice to him. He owed her a lot. She always took care of him like her own son and so her act of leaving a few riches for him was not a surprise. Yet when he heard of what Mary had said earlier, he started feeling guilty. Am I betraying Ms.Susan's kindness by not helping Mary find the truth? He asked himself. As the thought wandered in his mind, he applied soap to his face. Then he turned on the shower.
Crimson Blood poured out on him through the shower. Fear grabbed him from behind him. The hair in his spine stood up. He was paralysed in fear for over a minute. He slowly wiped his face with his hands and opened his eyes. It was just water coming from the shower. 
"What a day. I think my tiredness is getting to my head." He said to himself. He then finished taking a bath. He wore a Marvel t-shirt with Thanos' Face imprinted in it and a pair of shorts.
He went to the kitchen to find his cold coffee out of the refrigerator. He scratched his head and kept it back in the refrigerator. After all cold coffees are supposed to be cold. 
He grabbed a horror novel and sat on the sofa. Horror novels were Juwqn's favourite. Being an active writer in the web novel, he always needed good inspiration. Rana was Juwan's first novel. A completely useless fantasy novel. Being less popular in the web novel Universe, Juwan always wanted to write a famous novel. He never believed in ghost and so living alone in the cottage was never scary. Time passed by as he started feeling hungry. 
Juwan went to the kitchen and heated some rice and curry. He ate his dinner heartily and drank the cold coffee. After the heavy food, Juwan stretched his body and went upstairs to his room. He climbed the stair and opened his room door.
In front of him stood a pale Ms.Susan. Her tongue hanging from her mouth to her feet. Her eyes were bloodshot, out of her sockets. Juwan was stunned. As a reflex, he shut the door and stood paralysed. Sweat fell from his forehead as he heard the wind blow in the lonely house. A house in the middle of densely populated trees. 
A house that was becoming foreign to Juwan. He gulped down some saliva filled nervousness and fear. Suddenly the wind blew hard and the door opened.
