The floor and table were covered in dust, his new poster of Zhang Liang Ying that had just been posted on the wall a few days ago had already become yellow and tattered all over. Even Zhang Liang Ying’s beautiful face became monstrous as if an old devil was looking at him with a terrifying smile.
The walls were covered by a mist of cobwebs and the fruits placed on top of the coffee table were withered and rotted to the point that the mold on them had turned black. The aluminium framed window that the landlord had just installed not that long ago was now covered in a layer of white ash and the glass was filled with cracks and covered in dust.
The computer beside his bed was also covered by cobwebs and was accompanied by an empty water glass with a withered worm inside of it.
Dust filled the air making Wei Xiao Bei choke as he tried to breathe.
Everything seemed to be ash gray without any light as if looking at television static.
After just one night, it seemed like everything in the room had aged for centuries or even millennia.
Mother… is this a dream?
This must be a dream!

Qing Shui resumed his routine-like reading. “The material in this USB drive is not only extensive but complete; I am really impressed by how far they have gone with the research on the red fog. Look, they mentioned some countries are even able to purify the red fog.”
“Purification? What elements does the red fog have?”
“They haven’t figured it out in detail yet. Modern science has not evolved enough to identify each compound. The only thing they know is that the red fog contains an unknown number of unidentified radiations, and a variety of chemical compounds that they’ve never seen before.” Qing Shui stopped at a page where there were photographs of scientists occupied with collecting the fog and purifying it with a series of compressors and solvents in the tube.
“The American scientist who had named the red fog “The Creator’s Water” had discoverd its function two years ago. Since then, there was a sharp increase in funding of genetic engineering researches. The red fog seemed to be extremely useful for life extension, genetic engineering and weapon research.”
“This is where Russia, which had successfully refined the red fog, had concentrated a year ago. It performed medical trials on animals, and then humans. At that time, they created a number of super soldiers.”
“Super soldiers?” Chang developed a strong interest out of a sudden. Although he knew nothing about genetic engineering, which seemed to be a field far out of his reach, he still displayed great curiosity toward it. Chang became heavy-hearted as he saw the pictures, his head drooping. “So, we don’t have any chance?”
“I can’t come to that conclusion right now. Those were ordinary people who hadn’t adapted to the red fog yet. Also, it sounds to me like they had overdosed the concentrate. But you are much different compared to those deceased, especially since you are an EM altered by the red fog. Your physical strength and reflexes are ameliorated. Even ordinary people nowadays acclimate to the mysterious red fog, look here…” Qing Shui said as he kept scrolling down. The architecture in the image looked familiar to Chang. It was standard Chinese style architecture, which was highly similar to their institute.
“In fact, none of the countries stopped their research on the red fog. They even improved the purification method in these two years. You must have recognized where this picture was taken. In this paper, a research group in another Chinese research institute made momentous progress, a lab rat had survived from the injection, and the red fog modified its gene! I need to read through the material and papers as soon as possible, and I hope I can finish an essay for the preliminary theory of food web in time. “Understood,” Chang concurred.
“Great! You should go back to sleep now, I need to read more before I’m exhausted.”
Patting Qing Shui’s shoulder, Chang turned away from the dim light and let the darkness in the room softly wrap itself around him. The bed was almost too spongy, and he fell asleep immediately after settling on it.
In the next three days, the injuries on Chang gradually reduced in size and were eventually replaced by patches of delicate pink skin. On the other side of the room, Qing Shui got attached to the computer, reading the rest of the papers day and night without rest. Jing was also improving, her breath was strong and smooth again, when compared to her condition in the jungle. 
This morning, someone knocked on the door when Chang had just gotten up and was planning his workout routine.
He opened the door with suspicion and saw Mingyi, an acquaintance who Chang had not seen for the past three days.
“Long time no see,” greeted Mingyi. In his hands was a tray with a plate of salad placed on it as well as two glasses of strange sticky juice.
“Mingyi! They changed the personnel to deliver our meals! Why you though?” Seeing his comrade made Chang feel extra light-hearted and he stepped aside to let Mingyi into the suite. “I haven’t seen you since we got here, how did you find us?”
“A long story. The superiors were happy that I sent Mr. Li here safely. They awarded me with a higher ranking. Can you even believe that they made me a captain?” Mingyi asked, while placing  the tray on the coffee table. He glanced at Qing Shui, who was still robotically turning page after page with a straight face. It was as if he didn’t even notice that Mingyi came over for a visit.
“Leave him alone, he has been like that for the last three days, he can’t even hear me talking to him sometimes.” Chang was concerned that Mingyi may interrupt Qing Shui, so nervously, he repeated himself, “Please don’t mind him, I want to hear more about your story.”
“Sure. Do you remember Colonel Xie who we met when we got here? He treated me well when they heard that I am an EM with a high degree of evolution. They even asked me to train the domesticated animals that are held in this institute.” Mingyi heaved a sigh, showing his frustration. “Although I get three meals a day, which keep me energetic and happy, the evolved animals are undeniably impossible to train, even if they were domesticated a thousand years ago. We all know dogs were loyal and obedient most of the time. But they changed completely. None of them listen to me, even if they can’t defeat me. I just can’t make them obey me even once no matter how hard I try.”
“I feel bad for you… but maybe they will get better when you spend more time with them?” Chang suggested, as Mingyi’s emotions affected him. “But you haven’t told me how you found us.”
“Well, Colonel Xie asked me to take care of you guys as you might feel uneasy here. Therefore, they switched me to deliver meals to you.”
“I see,” Chang said, taking in the information. “By any chance, do you know where I can go and workout? I am almost healed now and, to be honest, I have nothing to do at this moment. It’d be great if you could tell me that since I desperately need some exercise.”
“Ah-ha! You asked the right person here.” Mingyi was an unassuming man, so he guessed no further and just told Chang, “The military has selected a few soldiers who are stronger and faster compared to their peers. They gather together and workout in a training room. I think you can get in as you are much better than those guys.”
“They are training soldiers who are stronger and faster…?” Mingyi’s words created a stirring in Chang’s mind. Somehow this reminded him about what he and Qing Shui discussed three days ago – the medical trial with the red fog concentrate. “What do they do in that room?” Chang asked, unable to loosen the tension in his fist.




Five hundred million years ago, an epoch of extraordinarily fast evolution and mutation took place. It is said that all ancestors of today’s species on Earth derive from those that appeared in the “Cambrian Period”.

Some of the newborn zombies started running. Fast. Like they knew that the imminent danger was nearing them. One of the zombies started climbing tall buildings like squirrels. Few of zombies dug themselves into the earth like moles. There are many that jumped into the water and tried to clumsily swim. 
''What is this about?'' Did those turn back to human form? Or did they just became next evolution after eating their own kind? Wait, what?
''Help...'' She could clearly hear that and looked around but no one else reacted.
''Help...'' Now multiple voices started calling. Emma was stunned while Aisa held her hand and squeezed. ''Mom, can you hear it as well?''
This time she knew she was not hearing things, but how come that just two of them could hear it?
''Boss, the doctor is asking to talk to you on a private line.'' One of the operators told her.
She rushed into the private room and closed-door after Aisa entered. ''Yes, doctor?''
''Can you hear the voices?'' He asked in excitement.
''Yes. What is going on?'' She was now truly astonished.
''I gave two of you new drug against your weak bodies, right?'' He gave them really many medicines.
''Yes?'' 
''I gave the same one to my daughter and few other patients. Some had this side effect and some didn't. Those that do have side effects called me as they thought they are getting crazy. I can't be sure but I think some people like you that were naturally brilliant had more chances. Out 73 people just 9 had this side effect. What about Aisa?'' he was excited.
''She has it as well.'' Is that something to be happy about?
''Of course. With her high intelligence, it would be wonder already if she didn't get it. You have this kind of feeling inside. Do you? Like you can feel their emotions?'' After hearing her affirmative answer he got excited. ''That is because you are extremely emphatic. You probably feel bad if someone hits himself or if you see someone in pain. For you, it is the same as you had it yourself. Sigh. Luckily only you and I have this. Don't tell anyone about this. I don't know is it a good thing.''
''Then in D section of next area do you know are there shelters? I need to help them get in a safe place. Now!'' Emma felt the urge to run and that means that some of those zombies are in direct danger of annihilation.
''There is a laboratory that is practically impenetrable. They should rush there, ill tell you its entry code.'' He could feel the same thing as she did so he was in a rush.
She rushed out and ordered the computer. ''Turn on lights on the laboratory in D city. Maybe that will bring them together. I heard from the doctor that we need to save as many as we can of these newborns. They might have answered on new antivirus for us.''
Suddenly the picture changed and trough her mind she started sending pictures of that lab in hope that they will understand. Soon first ones started appearing and escaping inside. More of them rushed and about coupe hundred was already inside. Unfortunately, the rest was or too far or caught up in the new tide. She ordered them to lock the doors and stay still inside.
Trough the computer screen she could see them standing still, like puppets in such small space and waited. The zombie tide hit the laboratory but as nothing happened and they didn't feel any movement they did it again and again. Fortunately, new zombies were not like humans. They didn't breathe or had many emotions. 
They could hear in their mind soothing voice from Emma and just stood still. Soon the tide became strangely shaped and started changing. Few new zombies were rushing to the other side of the state and the tide started moving that way.
But what scared the Emma the most this time. It was faster, stronger and started moving to her direction.
''Damn it!'' she cursed making Aisa raise her eyebrows in wonder.
She knew about her blunder but was acting as nothing happened. '''Tell them to drive faster, I fear that the tide this time is not as simple as the other one. Looking at the size and speed of tide, they might catch them up in mid of way over here. Is there any shelter they could hide?''
Actually there were stunned all by the newborn zombie's reaction. But now was not the time to think too much into it. If Boss doesn't say anything, then what can they?
''Boss, the problem is with further driving. If they want to go around the city they will lose time and if they go through the city they will be caught up with tens of thousands of zombies that started moving their way.'' Everyone awaited her answer.
''So either the way, they will be attacked?'' Seeing the operators nod she sighed. ''Then go around as fast as possible. At that time try to find...''
She saw something from the corner of her eyes and suddenly a big smile emerged on her face.
''Airport!'' Everyone understood. They started checking cameras around the airport and saw thousands of zombies inside. 
She saw the situation and ordered the lockdown of doors. Luckily the doors were connected to computers so they could lock it, but for how long?
''Check the data on the planes. Look for a smaller plane that is ready to start. You, connect me to them.'' 
All this way no one actually saw Mario's face. Those that knew him, recognized his voice but didn't react much. But she felt that there must be a reason he hid somewhere. He'll probably tell her that after coming back. Now she needs to get him out there.
She actually was extremely tired. But what could she do? Now was not the time for her to rest.
''Mam, there is one smaller plane ready, but there is a tiny problem there.'' He opened his screen and the plane was actually filled with zombies.
She sighed.
''Why are you sighing again?'' She could hear his voice that had a hint of teasing.
''Cna you drive plane?'' Her blunt answer was nothing new to him.
''Of course.'' No wonder. Why did I even ask? It was the question in her mind.
''There is an airport about twenty minutes away from you. It is literally full of people. The doors are locked but can it stop these if they start getting inraged. Then there is the other problem. The plane that is perfect for you to just jump in and drive is full of passengers. You need to clear them. Can you?'' Some things they had to do alone. 
Luckily it was one of smaller planes that had seats for just a few dozen people. 
''No problem. Is it possible to start basic functions before we arrive? If not we might get caught up with those inside the airport.'' He knew that the thin glass would be able to stop the tide of people.
He waited for a while and then got her answer. ''Luckily the board computer was already on and we could connect to it. Hurry. The new tide is coming towards you guys and it seems this time nothing will be able to stop it. And it's fast, scarily fast.''
''We will speed up. I have an idea of how to stop them for a while while we clear the zombies in the plane.'' She could literally see how the cars got on speed turning towards the airport. 
''What do you plan?'' She had a feeling he had some crazy thing in his head and that probably will be something she dislikes.
''Noting much. We will turn these cars into the firewall so it might slow them a bit until we can start flying.'' It was a good plan, but he didn't tell her that the zombies probably won't be able to stop. 
After seeing them fall off the bridge and still attack them, that meant that they have no fear or pain.
''Boss. The tide speed up. This...'' The young woman's face became white as she saw the tide rushing like crazy and gathering more and more zombies as it rushed.
''Mario. The tide is becoming faster. It will be there in the next half hour.  Hurry!'' her yell resounded as her face became white seeing the devastation the tide left after it.
More and more zombies came rushing out the cities like on command. Thousands, tens of thousands now as it seems millions if not even tens of millions of zombies rushed towards Mario's position, making everyone giddy.
''We are there open the main gate. Hurry.'' He could see the huge main gate for entryway straight towards the take off-field. He could see the doors opening and few zombies walking towards them. 
This time the guys just used guns to shoot them as they had no time to play around. 
With the support of operators, he quickly found the small plane and as they drove there they could see the door opening on plane and unch of zombies rushing towards them. They stopped a bit further away and armed with guns started shooting them down.
Suddenly they could hear huge crashing noise behind them and started running. Not even looking back they knew that the zombies in the airport broke through windows. 
The noise of incoming zombies gave them some more wind to their feet as they rushed inside and quickly closed the doors. As Mario rushed to the pilot seat he realized that the plane already started moving towards exit point with the help of the computer and took over. 
The problem was that he could feel strange vibrations coming from further away. As his eyes saw the sight he gots cared for the first time since this situation started happening.
A huge amount of zombies rushed amazingly quickly after them and when he took off some of them even tried to jump witch made him scared to hell. As he made round around the airport he realized that the zombies started making a strange motion like a vortex.
He never saw this before but Emma and her crew did and they got worried. What will happen now?

After dying in hands backstabbing friend that she thought of to be a sister she reopened her eyes and prepared for the final days before everything changes.
But to be able to protect her child she needs to clean some trash first. 
On the day of the apocalypse, she sat in her chair and a drunk glass of expensive vine.

Many generals were gathered in the military conference room.

Finally, the experts came to a stop.
The middle-old-aged referred to as Professor Yan by the white-haired general earlier pushed his glasses up, showing an extremely surprised smile and said, "Although there are still many items yet to be calculated in detail, we can already be sure that the information in here is unimaginably helpful to our research!
"I can proudly announce that with this information, we'll only need three years' time at the most to develop the first generation of genetic evolution fluid."
As Professor Yan finished speaking, a wave of enthusiastic clapping arose in the quiet conference room, not coming to a stop for a long time.
The fifth beast swarm would have yet to descend upon Mercury in three years' time!
If they really managed to develop the first generation of genetic evolution fluid by then, Hua Xia could produce large amounts of genetically evolved warriors at the time to make up for the lack of beastmasters, which would be hugely useful in the upcoming beast swarm.
Combined with the improvements in scientific weapons, everyone was confident that during the upcoming fifth beast swarm, they would pay a much smaller price to obtain the final victory compared to the previous invasions.

At noon, Zhang Che suddenly received a call from his father-in-law while he was having lunch with Miss Tienan at Bei Du University.
"Xiaoche, you've achieved great merits this time!"
On the other end of the call, Huang Juyun sounded very agitated. His voice was so loud that even Huang Tielan, who was sitting across Zhang Che, could hear him clearly.
"The information was confirmed to be usable after calculations and verification by experts! Now, the military has come together with the relevant departments from the government and assembled a large amount of manpower and logistics to fully take in and digest all the information in the shortest time possible, and to produce some preliminary results before the arrival of the fifth beast swarm.
"The brass has expressed that as long as you didn't commit any wrong from now on, they wouldn't allow anyone to commit any harmful acts against you. Once discovered, they will surely be severely punished!
"Haha, kid, this is equivalent to the pardon token from the ancient times!
"From now on, the Zhen family won't dare to make any petty moves!"
Zhang Che was very happy when he heard this. Of course, to a larger degree, he was happy for the rise in Hua Xia's strength in the future.
As for himself, having this "pardon token" or not didn't mean much to him.
At present, he already possessed outstanding strength. Unless he was facing beastmasters with divine-quality subdued beasts, Zhang Che wasn't afraid of anyone.
The scarlet and white sword wasn't just for show. Unless they had an extremely tough defense, Zhang Che could kill anyone with a mere thought.
After ending the call with Huang Juyun, Zhang Che saw Miss Tienan staring at him from the opposite side of the table.
"Woah, Zhang Xiaoche, you actually snuck abroad to have fun!" Although she said that teasingly, Huang Tielan's eyes were filled with deep concern. Naturally she had realized how much risk Zhang Che had taken and how many fierce battles he had fought to get his hands on that information.
"Promise me not to go risking your life in the future, okay? The other countries aren't like Hua Xia; no one would be there to help you if you're in danger."
Seeing the worried look on her, Zhang Che quickly nodded and promised her, "Mhm, don't worry. I'll definitely not risk my life in the future."
However, he knew inside that as he gradually grew stronger, even if he wandered outside, he wouldn't be in much danger.
Moreover, he had the ability to switch up his identity. There was almost nothing to worry about!


The world experienced a cataclysmic change, and countless spatial gateways appeared out of thin air.
Exotic beasts of all shapes and sizes swarmed out of those aforementioned spatial gateways, forcing the humans to face the crucial moment for their survival.
In order to search for a chance at survival, brave warriors from the army and scientific researchers risked their lives and entered the world beyond the spatial gateways. To their surprise, they discovered that there was a chance of obtaining beast cards by killing these exotic beasts in their world.
Those with extraordinary spiritual strength are able to utilize the beast cards, perhaps transforming the cards into the beasts’ combat bodies while they were still alive, or transforming them into weapons or defensive gears, or...
A new occupation came into existence following the changes, known as beastmasters.
A transcender with two souls fused into one found himself in this magnificent new world full of waves, rising step by step as he ascends into the seat of a godly beastmaster.

"Should we change back to our human forms, so the natives don't freak?" asked Olivia as they sat in their seats, staring at the people in front of the ship.
"That probably wouldn't hurt, but I hate the idea of being as helpless as a human."
Dustin was eyeing their fur clothes and primitive spears.  Had humanity really fallen this far?  He didn't like it.
"Then don't be.  As long as we look human, that should be good enough."  Olivia turned to look at her PED, then glanced up at him with a frown.
"What's wrong?" he asked, looking down at his own PED.  It looked fine.
"There's something wrong."
"Like what?" he looked at her PED, but it seemed fine too.  It was working just fine when they left the space station.
"How the hell am I supposed to know?  You're the one who's good with gizmos!"  She huffed at him and he sighed.
'PED, change my outward appearance to that of a normal human.'
(INITIATING EVOLUTION)
(ERROR: FAILSAFE HAS BEEN APPLIED.  UNABLE TO COMPLETE EVOLUTION.)
The whole tone of voice changed and it went back to that of a monotone mechanical voice.  The entire personality it had started to develop was gone.
"What now?" he growled, tapping the device.
"See?"  Olivia sat back and watched the people as they sat watching the ship.  Dustin wondered briefly if they could see inside, and figured they probably couldn't.  The windows normally had a protective film on them to keep the harmful radiation from penetrating inside the ship, and that usually caused a mirror effect.
'PED, removed the scale plate over the PED, so I can access you.'
The scale was removed, but there was no answer from the unit.  That worried him as he hooked it up to the computer system of the ship.  After 15 minutes of scanning the error files, he finally figured out what was wrong.
"There's some kind of radiation interference, messing with them."
"What's it coming from, and why didn't it have that on the last planet?" she asked.
Typing a few queries into the computer system, he was able to narrow it down.
"There's a solar flare hitting the planet.  With all of the debris around the planet, it's causing some kind of echo affect, or something.  I don't understand it very well. This sun is different from the last one.  It's odd."
Dustin typed a few more things into the computer, before disconnecting his PED.
'PED, remove failsafe program.'
(UNLOCKING THE FAILSAFE CAN HAVE UNFORESEEN EFFECTS.  PROCEED?)
'Proceed.'
(FAILSAFE HAS BEEN REMOVED.)
The tone of voice had returned to the normal personality from before, and he felt relief course through him.
'PED, change my outward appearance to that of a normal human.'
(INITIATING EVOLUTION)
(THERE SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM. DURING EVOLUTION TO REDUCE SCALES AND PLACE THEM UNDER A HUMAN SKIN, IT SEEMS YOU'VE BECOME ALBINO.  IF YOU ENTER THE SUNLIGHT, YOU MAY BURN. INITIATE EVOLUTION TO FIX THE PROBLEM?)
'Yes!  Fix me!  I can't hide from the sun like some vampire!'
(INITIATING EVOLUTION)
(ALBINISM HAS BEEN FIXED, BUT DURING EVOLUTION, YOUR HAIR HAS GROWN VERY LONG AND YOU SEEM TO HAVE A HUMP ON YOUR BACK.  YOU DON'T NEED TO DRINK WATER FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME)
Dustin checked his arms and hands.  They were no longer pale white.  
"How bad is the hump?" he asked Olivia, turning sideways.  Her eyes were wide as she watched him struggle with his evolutions.
"What is going on?"
Moving his shoulders and swinging his arms, he decided the hump didn't hamper his movements any, so it would be alright for now.
"I told you that there was a solar storm causing some kind of interference with the evolutions.  It initiated a failsafe to keep me from doing any, but when I removed the failsafe, it caused little hiccups in the evolution."
"I'd say!  You look like you have a nose from an ape!  And the color of your eye's makes me think big cat.  I'm not thinking the locals are going to accept you as human looking like that.  Is that a camel hump on your back?"
"Maybe I should try again."
'PED, try again to make me look human, please.'
(INITIATING EVOLUTION)
(YOUR APPEARANCE IS NOW ENTIRELY HUMAN, EXCEPT YOUR HAIR IS BRIGHT ORANGE.)
Turning to Olivia, he held his arms out for her examination.
"Your hair is unique, but not impossible, I guess.  I'm nervous about trying myself."
"You can't pass for human when you look like a lizard."
With a sigh, she turned to her PED.  Her skin grew fur that was spotted, like a leopard's, before it darkened and became longer.  She looked like a bigfoot.
Frowning, she then lost the fur, as it was sucked up, and her skin looked human, only clammy, as if it was aquatic.  She still had no hair, too.  After sighing, she tried again.
Her hair was white, and spiky, but could pass for a cool hairdo.  Her skin looked normal, and her eyes were dark.  They could have almost been black, but well within the realm of possible.
"There, now that we look human, shall we go out and mingle?"  She crossed her arms as he gazed at her naked body in admiration.
"Perhaps, we should look in the storage compartments for some clothes, after we have a little fun?  They've waited this long…" he grinned at her.
They had been naked in their lizard forms, or any other form for that matter, for so long, the need for clothes had slipped their minds, until now.
Several hours later, they finally exited the ship, to find the group of people had swelled to almost fifteen.  The suits didn't fit very well, but they covered them.
"Welcome, travelers.  Do you come looking for slaves, food, lodging, or information?" asked the elder as he stepped forward.
Olivia glanced at him, and he knew that she was going to let him talk.
"How often do you get travelers?"  he looked over the people, and saw nothing technological in anything they had.  But if there were people who did have tech, maybe this was just a place for people who didn't want tech?
"We have visitors every couple of years.  They are overdue this year, but that may be due to the newcomers."
"Newcomers?"
"Yes, they are metal men with four arms.  We haven't had any problems with them so far, but there was fighting amongst them and the last travelers who visited.  Several of the travelers died before they left.  It was rather shocking for us."
"Wait, you mean robots?" asked Olivia, looking at them then back at Dustin.
"I believe that is what the travelers had called them, yes."
The elder's grin stretched over his wrinkled face, happy that he could answer their questions.  Then it faded as his gaze traveled behind them.  The rest of the people faded into the forest and ran away.
Olivia tapped his arm, as her gaze moved past him to the trees behind them.  Turning, he saw a tree that was huge, shudder, as if a large breeze had just slammed into it.  Except there was no breeze.  His brow wrinkled as he tried to place what kind of tree it was, for a moment, then his eyes focused on the figures in the tree.
They were robots all right.  Their metal gleamed whenever a stray beam of light trickled through the leaves of the great tree and hit them.  Their eyes were focused on them, glowing red in the dim shadows.  As they watched, their arms transformed into long blades, and they charged, jumping out of the tree.

Home turned out to be a fake, littered with clues and filled with killer robots.
Dustin managed to escape the prison, but now he's in search of his true home, and maybe the truth.
