This time around I was alone as I made my way to Oscorp unnoticed to find out what was happening and also thinking of what to do.
I had no problem with killing anyone, thanks to my thought processes, but am I okay with just killing everyone I call a villain?
Oh don't get me wrong, Norman Osborn is dying, no doubt about that. He might deserve many things but being alive is not one of them. He was evil, period.
What I was thinking of was if it was alright to kill every bad guy I come across. Logic or morality – which was better to choose from.
Before all this I was just a normal guy. I had my good side and my bad side but now, after being influenced by one of the six relics of universal creation, everything now feels different.
Well the changes are welcomed but sometimes I'm torn between enforcing my change head on, regardless of the consequences, or maybe moving a brick or two, making the waves while also being mindful of the consequences. Sometimes it's like I have to be mindful of the changes I make – while it's okay to leave my mark as I live my life, something keeps on nagging me that I should also let the others live their life without any input from me.
"The fastest mind on earth and I still can't beat existential crisis." I joked as I landed on the roof of the budding conglomerate in the research and energy sector – Oscorp.
It was quite funny looking at Peter Parker frantically looking around, trying to find a way to ditch and switch uniforms but the Goblin held everyone hostage so he couldn't make any movements and risk the lives of his classmates and other civilians in the building.
'So no Spider-Man anytime soon and the police can't barge in since, well, they'll just be marching to their deaths.'
Since I was invisible to anything except spectral senses, it was a piece of cake for me to walk in unimpeded. Unlike the former Vision, or the Vision that would have been, I wasn't one to fancy superhero costumes so I just changed my outfit to a black and red iconic checkered shirt with white fur collars and jean pants. The most casual outfit anyone can get.
"Don't worry, just follow the line and you'll be alright."
"…"
"…"
The entire floor fell silent as I started directing the bound, well now unbounded, hostages through the barrier-like passage I constructed with hardlight.
"Who the hell are you?" The gobsmacked Goblin asked with surprise, seeing as how I just appeared out of nowhere and constructed a road in the middle of his corporate building floor.
I ignored him and just made sure the people didn't stampede on each other and only then did I turn back to the Goblin.
"You. You're Vision, right?" His glider hummed into life making me suppress a chuckle as the thing immediately fell under my command with the Goblin blissfully oblivious.
"Glad you know." I didn't bother asking him how he knew me since a few people already knew what my human form looked like after the meeting.
He let out the maniacal laugh he was known for and floated up with his glider. "I was waiting for the Spider but since he isn't coming I'll take my leave for another time."
-!!
Annnd that was panic setting in as he realized that his getaway ride wasn't responding to his commands.
Remember what I said about logic and morality. Sometime you don't need either, all you need is a 'fuck it all' mindset and you'll be surprised by how little most things matter.
I stretched my hands towards him and pulled him towards me only for my hand to get caught by webs, courtesy of a spider hanging upside down the ceiling.
"Sorry, but I felt like you were just about to kill him." He apologized before jumping down and crashing down on the glider and destroying it while webbing the Goblin to the wall.
"If it isn't the annoying bug. Pity you came when the party already ended."
This just turned annoying real fast, not that that was going to help the soon-to-be dead gnome. Call it bias or whatever but this guy irritated me to no end whenever I read a Spiderman comic that featured him as the villain. He was the first ever villain I prayed the hero should kill, followed only by the Joker.
The web that covered my hand melted after which I just strolled towards the Goblin, ignoring the young hero shouting my name behind my back.
I don't know how the spider sense works but it probably alerted Peter of my next action as the boy sprung into action and tired to stop me only for him to find himself buried inside a wall.
Despite his shouts, I reached Norman Osborn and just tapped twice on his chest, rupturing his heart and ending the Goblin with a peaceful death he definitely didn't deserve.
"Why did you do that!?!! Why did you kill him?!!"
Peter screamed with tears running down his eyes which clued me in that he already knew the identity of the Goblin.
I wanted to say something at that moment, maybe something to console him but when I remembered the number of people this guy has killed in just the past year since he's been active just sucked every sympathy I had towards him.
"This is not a child's game, Peter Parker." With those words, I left the building, with no camera catching my features. Even the people I saved will find it hard to correctly remember how I look.
I could feel Peter's agony but I wasn't going to entertain it. He knew who Norman was. The type of freak his so-called 'best friend' father was and he resolved himself to only go after him as Spiderman. The kid was one of the smartest people in this world and he still didn't put that smart to good use except when it came to being Spiderman.
All is good and well but unfortunately for our friendly neighborhood Spiderman, the world is as black as it can be. Responsibility and self-interest sometimes gets superimposed the deeper you go into this murky waters called heroics.
