It didn't come as a surprise to anyone after the third day of the hearing passed and a message was sent to the Avengers via Tony along with copies of the newly signed bill, stating that all members of the Avengers are required to sign the presented documents and submit it.
They were given a week as the deadline but none of them looked as if they cared. Even Tony was more focused in perfecting what he called his 'Broken Dreams' armor, which if no one could tell, was tailored to be an antithesis to Vision.
Oh the country as a whole was tense because any one with a small thinking power could tell that a lot was riding on whatever decision the Avengers made.
And this was what Fury was worried about.
He 100% supported the Avengers, fully aware that it was a necessary fighting force, but even he didn't expect it to become something akin to a focal power in such a short time.
While all this was happening, Peter Parker was having the toughest battle of his life as he faced off against six of the most notorious villains he's ever fought.
"What's wrong Spiderman? Feeling queasy all of a sudden?" Electro laughed boisterously as he rained down blasts of electricity on Spiderman who tried his best to wade his way through.
His spider sense rang as a shadow fell over him, forcing him to dodge as a fist made of sand slammed at him.
Even with the upgrade of his new suit, it was too much for him to face off against not only Electro and Sandman, but also Doctor Octopus, Vulture, Rhino and Scorpion.
Vulture's wings snapped his webs which left him open for one of Doc Ock's prosthetics to wrap around him and smash him through a café.
He clutched his sides in pain and winced as he felt a few broken bones and bruises from the fall.
He had lost a good amount of blood but his suit was doing a good job with stopping them as much as it could.
"It just had to be today of all days." Under his damaged mask was a wry smile as he cursed his fate.
He just had to be jumped right when he was finishing off his patrol to go for his date.
"Don't tell me you're already dead, spider. I still haven't had enough fun yet." Scorpion's scraggly voice entered his ears just be a pointed tail punctured through where he had been lying down.
He grabbed the tail and drew the scorpion in to smash him through the other side of the café out to the open.
So far his greatest problem was the one currently under his feet, Sandman, and the one above him, Electro.
He flipped backwards and grabbed a coffee machine and swung it square at Vulture's face but paid the price for it as electricity coursed through his body.
"God, I love this suit." He said with labored breaths as he dodged the horned behemoth and webbed his legs before jumping away from Sandman's grab.
"At least let me catch my breath." He said weakly as he kicked Doc Ock away only to be swatted away by Rhino.
Right now, he was laboriously out of breath and his eyesight was getting blurry, forcing him to rely mostly on his senses and his suit.
"Give it up, Spiderman. You might beat on our own, but together all you can do is get squashed like the bug you are." Scorpion cackled venomously as the six of them surrounded the badly beaten Spiderman.
"I wonder about that." A calm voice sounded out, causing them to turn with a frown.
"And who do y-" Vulture's words escaped his throat as a shield hit him across the face and into the ground.
The others were surprised, not with Vulture being attacked but with who attacked him.
"Cap…" Peter exclaimed weakly and was about to fall down but something invisible caught him and a voice entered his ears.
"You are in trouble, kid. What did I tell you about underestimating your opponents?" Black Widow chided as she carried him out of the way and had him beamed up to the Overwatch for medicals.
"Avengers.." Electro said wearily and looked around for the others but all he saw was the Falcon with Captain America and nobody else.
"Widow?"
"Secured Cap. He's already receiving treatment back at base." Black Widow said as she appeared beside Captain America.
"Hey, hey, Doc. We agreed on putting the spider under. No one said anything about fighting the Avengers!" Scorpion shouted at a confused Doc Ock.
"The spider, the Avengers. I couldn't care less. I ain't going back to cell block D!" Electro wasn't fazed by the appearance of the Avengers.
They were just three humans after all. Could a shield and a pair of wings stop him?
Under the influx of confidence, he shot bolts of electricity at the three heroes in front of him, laughing maniacally as he did so.
Falcon flew away while Black Widow jumped away, leaving Steve to tank the blast with his shield.
Falcon flapped his yellow wings, still reveling in their novelty, and yellow features shot at Electro who easily dodged it.
"Tch. Stupid bird."
On the ground, the first person to get knocked out of the fight was Scorpion who had his tail cut by Black Widow and had a knee driven into his face after he was stunned.
"Shit!" She tried to escape but a huge hand grabbed her and coiled into a fist.
Sandman opened his hand with a grin on his face, expecting to see her crushed in a bloody splatter but all he saw was an empty hand.
"Peek a boo!" He screamed in pain as volts of electricity wrecked his body from Black Widow's stun baton.
"I'm out of here!" Vulture cried out after seeing Scorpion and Sandman out for the count.
Before he could jet away, he was forced to dodge as Captain America's shield sailed dangerously close to his wings. He tried to escape once more but now was faced with Falcon who was trying his damned hardest to hold down but him and Electro.
"Get crushed under za Rhino, shield man!" Rhino screamed and charged towards Captain America, even more annoyed when the man didn't panic as he drew near.
Seeing Rhino's charge, Captain America balanced himself and used one hand to grab the gigantic horn trying to skewer him and his other hand to hold down the Rhino on his shoulder.
Under everyone's astonished gaze, Captain America only skidded for a few steps before stopping the Rhino dead in his charge.
"Za fuck!" A perplexed Rhino exclaimed in more disbelief as he felt himself slowly losing his balance as the man who stopped him gritted his teeth in exertion and lifted him up and plunged him head first into the ground.
What followed next was a fast round up of the remaining members of the newly formed Sinister Six.
Electro was regretful since he didn't escape when he had the chance only for Falcon to shoot him with a glowing disc that absorbed all his electrical discharges and effectively nullified his powers.
"These guys are getting more bold by the day." Black Widow said as the authorities took away the villains after stripping them of their suit.
Falcon nodded. "Yeah, and they are starting to form groups. It's slowly turning into a disaster for the local authorities."
After they were beamed up to the Overwatch, Natasha and Steve made their way to the medbay where Peter was being patched up.
Vision and Bruce had worked together to create something akin to the Cradle that birthed Vision. Something capable of stitching broken tissues and bones at an atomic level.
"Looking pretty good, kid." Natasha said as she sat beside him while Steve folded his hands at the foot of the bed with a look of disapproval on his face.
Peter shrunk deeper into his pillow under Steve's gaze.
"Why didn't you call back when you realized that you couldn't take them on?"
"I…" In the end, Peter couldn't come up with any reasonable excuse. "Am I in trouble?" It was quite a funny question given he was a superhero, but…
"Rookie mistakes like these should not happen on the field, Peter. We can heal you up but we can't bring you back from the dead." Natasha said.
She had trained Peter and having him make such a bad decision when his life was on the line went against the very first thing she taught him.
"… Guys, I'm sorry, okay? It's… I had a date and I thought that since I've beaten them before, that I could do it again but… yeah. Bad decision."
"It's okay, we are just worried. We can't have you dying on us due to any form of negligence on our part." Steve said.
Peter nodded in understanding. He knew just how risky being a superhero was and today was just another reminder.
"How did you know I was in trouble?" He asked.
"The internet." Natasha simply replied.
"People were posting about you fighting off against six villains and thankfully we quickly caught wind of it." Steve added.
Peter's face went up with an 'ah'. "Right, the internet."
