Chapter 16: Nick Fury

After getting out of trouble, Alex was on his way back to his house. "Huh, that was close, I almost won't be able to get out of there..."

Imagining himself surrounded by those fans and having a photo session terrified him. Fortunately, he was well aware of the consequences of staying there.

Not only would he be surrounded by fans, but S.H.I.E.L.D would also be there and question him or try to catch him for doing a lot of beneficial but illegal stuff.

As Alex walked down the street, he couldn't help but feel a sense of relief wash over him. The close call with the fans and S.H.I.E.L.D. was a stark reminder of the risks he faced daily as a vigilante.

He knew that his actions were often illegal and that he could face serious consequences if caught. But at the same time, he couldn't ignore that his work had helped countless people in need.

As he arrived at his house, he took a deep breath and reminded himself of the reasons why he had started this work in the first place. It wasn't for the thrill or the glory, but because he wanted to impact the world positively.

'...and to redeem my mistakes.'

With that thought in mind, he went inside and began to plan his next move. He knew that he had to be careful and avoid unnecessary attention, but he also knew he couldn't just sit back and do nothing.

As he worked on his plan, he couldn't help but wonder what the future held for him. Would he ever be caught and face the consequences of his actions? Or would he be able to continue his work and make a difference in the world?

Only time would tell, but Alex was determined to do what he could to help those in need, no matter the risk.

As he opened the door and walked into the house, he went to the kitchen immediately to get a drink as he was quite thirsty.

Strangely enough, the kitchen's light was on as he walked in.

"Pete?? Are you there??"

The only one in his house without even asking for permission was Peter, so he wondered if Peter was there.

Walking closer to the refrigerator, he saw a man in black trousers with a black eye patch on one of his eyes sitting comfortably on the sofa.

"Yo, wassup?"

Alex greeted cheerfully as he took out his bottle of coke and opened it up to drink.

"...Wait a minute?"

Alex turned his head as he looked at the man, coincidently, the man was staring dead right into his eyes which made him feel quite speechless.

"..."

Alex closed the refrigerator as he walked out of the house to take a look once again, wondering if he truly got into the right house or not.

As Alex stepped outside, he checked the address on the house and confirmed that it was indeed his own.

"This is indeed my house..."

He whispered silently, as he couldn't understand how someone had entered his house without his knowledge or permission.

Feeling a sense of unease, he cautiously made his way back inside, keeping a close eye on the stranger on the sofa. As he approached the man, he couldn't help but notice the air of authority that seemed to surround him.

"Well, you sure are quite a hard case for us, huh, Mr. Ghost?" The man poured water into his cup on the table. "Do you even realize the damages you've caused have been a pain in the ass for my organization?"

Given that the surveillance technology he destroyed during his captures was very advanced and likely more expensive than its counterpart in the market.

This meant that the damage he caused was probably significant.

"...Who are you?" Alex asked, trying to keep his voice steady.

The man didn't answer at first, instead taking a long sip from the glass of water on the coffee table before him.

"I'm Nick Fury," the man finally said, setting down the glass. "And I need to talk to you about a job."

'No shit...'

Alex felt his lips twitch involuntarily as he struggled to comprehend how the man he never wanted to cross paths with was casually sitting on his couch.

He had heard of Nick Fury before, of course, as the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. But he couldn't understand why Fury would be here, in his house, offering him a job.

He tried to keep his cool but couldn't help but think that maybe using S.H.I.E.L.D's equipment downstairs was a bad idea.

"What kind of job?" he asked cautiously, trying to keep his emotions in check.

Fury leaned back in his seat, studying Alex carefully.

"A job that requires your unique set of skills," he said cryptically.

"We've been watching you for some time, and we think you could be a valuable asset to our team."

Alex wasn't sure how to respond. He didn't want to get involved with S.H.I.E.L.D., but at the same time, he couldn't ignore the fact that they might be able to offer him resources and support that he couldn't get on his own.

High risk, high return.

Still, knowing the Hydra's remnants lurking around inside the organization kind of made him feel repulsed.

"...I'm underage, you'll get sued," he said finally, trying to buy himself some time.

Fury raised an eyebrow at Alex's response. "We have ways to work around that," he said calmly. "And besides, age is just a number. We need people with your expertise and maturity on our team."

"That's illegal..." Alex said as he slowly sat down in front of the one and only Nick Fury.

"..." Nick Fury was a little speechless hearing Alex's response. "Do you even fucking realize what the hell you just said?"

"..."

Now that he thought about this, he's been doing illegal stuff even though it was for the good sake.

Fury shook his head exhaustedly as he opened up a file and slid it across the table.

"Here's the offer, we call it Avenger Initiative, take your time," he said, standing up from the sofa. "But know that the offer still stands. And if you decide to join us, we'll be in touch."

Fury went to the door and let himself out, leaving Alex alone with his thoughts. As he sat there, he couldn't help but wonder what kind of job Fury had in mind and whether or not he was willing to risk getting involved with S.H.I.E.L.D.

"...Wait, did he just let me get away with using their equipment downstairs?"
