Kiba was… worried. When it was first said that he would be working alongside Vincent Edelweiss he was actually quite excited but then another name he was not quite so eager to see was thrown into the mix.
Xenovia Quarta was a rising star of the Church, a woman of strength, will, and an unhealthy amount of determination. Kiba hadn't met her before so he couldn't vouch for her personality however his first impression was certainly poor.
Due to his childhood, he always had a bit of skepticism towards the church but with Xenovia he took that to the extremes. How could he not when she smelled of blood so strongly? It was an overpowering yet subtle scent, one that would often go unnoticed yet could not be ignored.
Swallowing his complaints he focused his eyes on their opponent. Standing at an astounding height yet not quite a giant their foe had an odd form. Dark crimson skin that seemed to be the color of blood and dark eyes the shade of the abyss. Most obvious however was her six arms and three faces.
"So he gave me a bunch of brats?" Clicking her tongue their foe held clear disregard for their very existence in her dark eyes. Truth be told, Kiba couldn't blame her. They were faced with the Hindu goddess of death and a monster of destruction.
"We'll be more than sufficient." Vincent was the first to respond, the book in his hand slamming shut as his blade manifested in his hands. Compared to the reforged Excalibur Kiba wielded or the Durandal in Xenovia's firm grasp his blade was much weaker and yet his aura was the strongest at the moment.
"Hoho." Laughing at the overwhelming aura sent her way, Kali didn't even bother to respond in kind. Instead, six weapons appeared in her arms. A long dagger that twisted and turned like a snake, a three pronged staff, a vajra, two large yet thin curved blades, and a humanoid skull.
While each weapon individually was subpar compared to their own combined they radiated an aura that the three of them somewhat struggled to endure. It felt as though the air was heavy like they were moving through the thickest ocean.
"Then let us dance." Though the words sparked the beginning of the battle it was Xenovia to take the first move a fraction of a second later. Appearing before their opponent in a flash Xenovia's large weapon dropped through the air with immense force.
Raising two of her hands Kali stopped the strike with her two long blades while the hand carrying the snake like dagger shot forward. Swinging his sword Vincent's blade shimmered as it phased through Durandal and stopped Kali's blade.
Not far behind Kiba swung his sword upward, holy light surrounding his blade as a pillar of light pierced the dreary skies above. The light blast existed for only a fraction of a second before it was snuffed out, a cold crimson light emanating into the surroundings.
Three of Kali's arms were occupied leaving only one weapon and two artifacts remaining to be used. That was Vincent's thoughts when he occupied the snake like dagger with one hand and struck the staff with a powerful strike intending to make it difficult to strike further.
"Wrong move~!" Practically cooing at him Kali only slightly tilted her staff, the three prongs clashing against his blade, a sickly grey glow corrupting his blade with immense speed. It was an instant reaction, blood spewing out of his lips and tainting his white clothing.
"…!" Hurriedly making up for Vincent's vacancy Kiba struck Kali in the chest with his palm, immense holy power dancing around his fingers and seeping into her torso. It only sent her flying back a few meters but that was enough time to regroup.
"Are you alright?" Xenovia asked, her cold voice filled with just a small amount of worry. She wasn't particularly close to Vincent but they were currently allies, his presence was necessary in this battle.
However, instead of responding, Vincent merely clutched at his chest and gasped for breath. As a wraith, he was a mostly spiritual life form which allowed him to create things with his soul. His blades were made with a bit of his existence so when he was damaged part of that went away.
'I-I… can't remember!' Panicking in the truest meaning of the word Vincent tried to remember his memories. He didn't know what he had forgotten nor did he know where or when it had occurred but he knew they were gone.
"Take a deep breath. Breathe in… and out. It'll be alright." The serene voice of his companion was oddly warm, his mind calming as a warm glow surrounded his body. It felt warm, pleasant, and oddly nostalgic even though he was sure he had never felt it.
However, that was only natural as he was currently being washed over by holy power. The holy power of the God of the Bible was inherently purifying so a creature of the night like a wraith couldn't endure it even without him being a devil.
But that didn't apply to the holy sword Excalibur. Despite being a weapon of slaughter, it was an inherently kind object. With it, even a being like a devil or wraith could be healed with holy power without persecution.
"Take a breather. I'm going to help Xenovia." Standing up from his kneel Kiba didn't waste any time to assist his partner. Vincent was still out of it so they were in a bad spot for the moment but Kiba was confident they'd be fine.
Kiba hadn't caught most of their battle but he could tell that Xenovia was growing with every strike. It wouldn't be long before she could pull a win out of the dreary situation. And he wouldn't fall behind in the slightest.
Time seemed to slow in his eyes as he forcefully opened the domain. It wasn't the usual accidental entering he usually did, he forcefully pried the doors open. He had broken through the first step required to enter the domain at will.
Xenovia wasn't the only one growing.
