Chapter 4: Another survivor group

"Lilith, you knew there was someone there, didn't you?" Bai Zemin, who was mad at Lilith, stood in a storage room.

"What? I don't know what you're talking about," Lilith acted dumb, much to his annoyance.

"I swear, someday I will punish you."

"Ooh, punish me hard with those big hands of yours~" Ignoring Lilith's seductive words, Bai Zemin turned to his phone and dialed his sister's number.

"The person you are trying to reach is unavailable or out of reach." Bai Zemin's mood turned worse as he imagined the worst. Dialing the number again, he hoped it wasn't what he imagined.

"The person you are trying to reach—" Panic overwhelmed him as he dialed his father's number instead.

"The—", not even wanting to hear the rest of the message, he threw his phone towards the wall, shattering it, leaving it unrepairable.

"AGH!" In a fit of rage, he threw chairs and tables around as the sounds of wood breaking became the only source of sound in the storage, accompanied by barbaric screams.

After a few minutes, Bai Zemin sat against the wall, feeling empty like a husk. Not a single tear appeared in his eyes as he blankly looked across the room, littered with broken furniture and sports equipment.

"Bai Zemin, I think your parents are alive—"

Hu Zhu's POV

Exiting the cafeteria into the gym, Hu Zhu, in fresh clothing, saw a new group of people. It seems she wasn't the only one who thought the gym was a good haven.

Turning to Wu Yijun, who was talking to another girl, Hu Zhu instantly recognized her. She always had been at the top of the class and a common topic when asked who the most beautiful girl was.

Noticing Hu Zhu, Wu Yijun was the first to introduce her to Shangguan Bing Xue.

"Bing Xue, meet Hu Zhu. She was the one who rescued all of us."

Shangguan Bing Xue scanned Hu Zhu from top to bottom before nodding to herself.

"Thank you for saving my friends." Bing Xue, the definition of a cold queen, thanked her, raising her brow slightly, wondering if this was a trick.

"It was nothing," Hu Zhu nodded.

"I found some food in the cafeteria, so I came to inform some of the teachers," Shangguan Bing Xue nodded and bid farewell. After informing some of the responsible teachers, Hu Zhu returned to the cafeteria.

Shangguan Bing Xue, observing Hu Zhu quietly, looked at her with slight perplexity.

Hu Zhu's demeanor seemed to be an enigma. On one hand, her words were considerate, but on the other, her eyes held no feeling behind them whatsoever, leaving Shangguan Bing Xue to suspect her words were not truly what was in her mind.

But whether she cared or not, she did indeed save Bing Xue's friends, so thanking her was natural.

"Chen He, do you remember any girl called Hu Zhu?" Shangguan Bing Xue looked to Chen He, who was listening along to the conversation.

"Well, I remember stumbling upon a poll on the forum 'the most beautiful girls in Beijing University.' She is said to be second to you, who was always the first. Checking other forums, it seems her being second-best is consistent, only being beaten by you," Chen recalled, his curiosity satisfied.

"I see."

Finding a comfortable corner, Hu Zhu closed her eyes to recover from her injury. Though mostly healed, the mental fatigue she experienced today, fighting through hordes and almost getting eaten by a zombie, had been enough for one day.

Quietness reigned in the room as the only thing heard was Hu Zhu shuffling. A couple of minutes passed, but a sudden click at the door was heard.

Quickly standing up and pointing the glaive towards the intruder, Hu Zhu remained cautious. It was Bai Zemin, the one she had seen enter the room while changing.

"What do you want?" Her posture remained the same.

"I want a quiet place to sleep. Can I sleep in the other corner?" Bai Zemin looked at her without observing her body.

"And why would I agree?" She asked coldly.

"You're here because of the same reason, right? I will not bother you if you don't bother me."

Observing Bai Zemin's posture, eyes, and voice, it seemed that he wasn't a bit interested. Rather, the feeling of 'I don't want to be near you' was apparent.

"Fine, go ahead, but I warn you that if you come even near me, your head will be rolling on the floor."

"Yes, yes," feeling annoyed, Bai Zemin complied and walked to the farthest corner of the room. Hu Zhu, still cautious, stayed awake.

After an hour, Hu Zhu saw Bai Zemin falling asleep. Looking at his steady breathing, she was sure he was asleep and decided to sleep too.

After feeling rested, Hu Zhu woke up and saw Bai Zemin was already awake. Hearing the storm outside, she sighed, wishing it would go away soon.

A knock was heard at the door, and Hu Zhu and Bai Zemin looked at each other for a moment. Hu Zhu, who was closest to the door, opened it and saw a female student standing on the other side who was 2 years younger than her.

"Ah, Big sister Hu Zhu, Big sister Shangguan Bing Xue is planning to distribute the food in the cafeteria. After that, she called you and Big Brother Bai Zemin to have a meeting." Nodding at her words, Hu Zhu looked 'Did you hear it?'

Bai Zemin nodded, and she grabbed some food from the already prepared food. Though it had gone cold, it was still relatively fresh.

Soon, the door connecting to the gym opened as students poured in.
