Two Worlds Exchanged

Liu Yuying, a university student in Singapore doing a double major in Chinese and English, is an acclaimed fanfiction writer well-known for her works on various online fiction sites such as Webnovel, Wattpad, AO3, and more. She has recently signed an exclusive contract with Webnovel. However, there’s just one problem - Yuying has only written fanfiction her entire life. She has never written an original piece of work. As such, she has no idea where to start. After an unsuccessful brainstorming session, Yuying decides to call it a day and sleep on it. However, when she wakes up, Yuying finds herself in an unfamiliar Ancient Chinese universe, stuck in the body of a prince named Zhao Ming’er, the second in line to the throne and the star pupil at his cultivation academy.

Reddit Post (Yuying)

Yuying has exactly 54 missed calls and 287 texts.

Yuying widens her eyes in shock as she pulls the notification tab of her phone down. Some of the calls and texts are from her family, who must've tried to reach her right after they'd been informed that she'd been admitted to the hospital.

There are also texts from Jiawen, Tian Gou, Professor Williams, and a few other friends, acquaintances, and even professors whom Yuying had met in some of her classes. Yuying briefly skims through the seemingly endless amount of messages that she'd received and gets the gist of what all of them basically said.

Everyone was worried about her.

There's a warm feeling in her heart that Yuying couldn't help but feel. As much as she didn't want to admit it, it felt nice knowing that there are people out there who care about you.

Yuying decides to open Jiawen's text first, considering that the latter is her best friend and her roomie. However, just as Yuying is about to do so, her finger slips and she ends up clicking on a text that an acquaintance, Junwei, had sent her instead.

Junwei: Yuying! It's Junwei from Chinese Lit class

Junwei: Is this true???

Junwei: www.reddit.com/r/NTU/u21g80/Student_Fell_Down_The_stairs_At_The_Humanities_Building

Junwei: Everyone's saying that it's you

Junwei: R u ok???

-

"What the...?" Yuying murmurs under her breath as she furrows slightly at the link to the Reddit post that Junwei had sent. Yuying bites her bottom lip nervously as her finger hovers over the link. Just as she's about to click on it, she retracts her finger, visibly hesitant.

Yuying is afraid about what she would see should she click on the link. She doesn't know why she feels this way. After all, it's not like Yuying'd done anything wrong or scandalous. Yet, for some reason, it feels...slightly frightening.

Then again, it all made sense, considering that Yuying isn't used to all the attention and scrutiny that Yuqing, the more talented and gorgeous of the two, had always received. Yuqing had always been the one to play her guzheng and flaunt her trophies and awards one after another whenever their relatives came over during Chinese New Year, while Yuying would just quietly sit and watch on from the corner, almost as though she didn't exist.

This didn't mean that Yuying didn't have a fair share of attention and scrutiny. She did, just under a cover of anonymity; under her pen name, Yingfinity, to be more precise. While it was true that Yuying's fanfictions have garnered millions of views, likes, and comments, and that she'd gone on to win various writing prizes and awards for her fanfictions, nobody knew her true identity. Yuying had always been shrouded by anonymity, by the identity she went by on the online space that she'd created for herself.

And so, the fact that she'd somehow become the talk of the town overnight (and had even earned a Reddit post, mind you) was a rather nerve-wrecking reality to confront for the shy and introverted Yuying, who preferred staying in to write and read fanfiction on her laptop to going out and getting wasted at college parties.

Alas, just as Yuying is about to exit her chat with Junwei, she finds her finger slipping (yet again) and clicking on the link to the Reddit post that he'd sent her. As much as Yuying was certain that she didn't want to look at the post and deny its existence for as long as she could, there was probably something within her that was dying to know what the post was all about.

And so, Yuying finds herself coming face to face with the Reddit post in question before she can even turn away or avert her eyes.

Student Fell Down The Stairs At The Humanities Building

Omg guys... I'm posting this here because idk where else to post this ahhh but as the title suggests, I just saw a student fall down the stairs at the Humanities Building??? It was so unexpected man I just ended a History mod lecture and was going out of the lecture theatre with my friends when there was suddenly this loud af BANG. We whipped our heads around so fast that our necks could've snapped right there and then but that isn't the point anyway there was this prof that cried "YVONNE!!!" and lo and behold there was a female student at the foot of the stairs. She was unconscious and there was a pool of blood around her right ear...??? Idk about y'all but I think that was kinda weird because how could her ear bleed like that from falling down the stairs...??? It looked like it'd been sliced with a knife or even a sword or sth... It was damn scary wth. Anyway there was a bit of a commotion and someone called the ambulance and before we knew it the female student was being carted off to the hospital. A cleaner came to clean up the pool of blood as soon as they took her away and after that the crowd more or less dispersed because there was nothing left to see lol. But yeah anyway I wish that student, whoever she is, a very speedy recovery! I didn't see her fall but the bang was so loud that I know that it must've been a nasty fall man. Ouch...

Yuying couldn't help but crinkle her nose at the part about her ear. She couldn't help but instinctively clasp her hand over her right ear as she recalls how the assassin had sliced at her ear before getting hot on her heels. Yuying had been so caught off-guard and stunned at that moment that she hadn't even felt the pain at her ear.

/It looks like my right ear had been bleeding really badly according to this post.../

/"It looked like it'd been sliced with a knife or even a sword".../

/I mean, Nurse Lee basically said the same thing, so it must be true.../

Yuying couldn't help but scoff slightly at the irony of Nurse Lee's words and the Redditor's, whoever they were, post. Even though they may not know it, they were awfully accurate for people who hadn't been there when Yuying had almost gotten killed by a sword-wielding assassin.

/They're right./

/It's weird./

/My ear couldn't have bled out so badly from just falling down the stairs.../

Just then, a sudden thought strikes Yuying. She widens her eyes.

/Does that mean.../

/The injuries that I'd sustained in that strange ancient Chinese universe.../

/Had somehow been carried over into my reality...?/

Yuying scoffs slightly at the absurdity of this idea. This was the kind of shit that happened only in the stories and dramas that she'd read and watched. Heck, Yuying herself was guilty of including these slight transmigration-slash-body swapping elements in the fanfictions that she'd written.

/How could this be...?/

/No way, there's no way.../

/There's no way such a thing could happen in real life...!/

And so, Yuying shoves the thought to the back of her mind as she continues to read the Reddit thread. She thought that she might as well went all the way to read the comments since she'd already read the main post.

u/WilliamShakehisass: Omg I was there too! I was just coming out of a tutorial when I heard a loud bang... It was so scary seeing the pool of blood form around her ear wtf. It felt like I was watching a horror movie irl or sth and ngl I lowkey thought that she was dead. I hope she's ok man, wherever she may be :(((

u/OreByMyself: Bruh I was just going back to my hall after eating lunch with my friends at the South Spine food court aka the food court near the Humanities Building when I saw the commotion. Being the busy bodies that we are, me and my friends went over, thinking that the Student Union is giving out free stuff or sth, only to find that girl sprawled across the floor. It was so terrifying wth really didn't think I'll see sth like that in my entire uni life.

u/StreamTomboy: The prof who cried out "YVONNE!!!" is my English Literature prof. I wasn't there but I heard from my friends that the girl had been helping my prof out with a research project as a research assistant or sth. She must've somehow fell down the stairs during the research assistantship or sth :/

u/CaptainArsehole: [Replying to u/StreamTomboy] Lmao how does one even fall down the stairs while doing a research assistantship. That's just stupid man... Like girl you literally had ONE JOB...

u/JusticeLeagueSimp: [Replying to u/CaptainArsehole] Bruh stfu. You weren't there and you dk what exactly happened none of us do so just do us all a favor and stfu if you have nothing nice to say ok thanks.

u/HoneyButterChipsLover: [Replying to u/CaptainArsehole]: Dude that's not cool man. Why don't you try jumping off a building instead of jumping to conclusions. Your username is spot-on.

u/PorcupinePear: Omg the poor girl :((( Does anyone know who she is??? Idk her but I just want to give her a big hug man :((( That must've been a painful fall, for her to bleed out like that...

u/EasterEggBunnies: [Replying to u/PorcupinePear]: I'm not v sure about this but one of my friends majoring in Chinese told me that she's a second-year Chinese and English double major. He said that she was in one of his tutorials in freshman year of something.

u/ZhenXiangDaBai: [Replying to u/EasterEggBunnies] Her name is Liu Yuying. I'm not a humanities major, but she's in one of the classes that I'm taking as an unrestricted elective this semester. I've checked and confirmed this with our classmates.

Yuying groans as she throws her phone down onto the mattress and stuffs her head into her pillow, not wanting to read the thread anymore. Her face is turning red from the embarrassment of having her identity revealed on a public platform.

Yuying doesn't know who he or she is, but she feels like punching u/ZhenXiangDaBai in the face at this present moment.

Yuying screams into her pillow.

/Damn it...!/

/I've just come back from that strange ancient Chinese universe.../

/Only to find that I now have a Reddit post written about me...!!!/
