14. Austin

"How's going on between you and Georgina now eh?" Patrick asked when he saw me right away.

The rest of the team is here in a five star hotel in town attending a kids charity event. As we all waited for the event to start, Patrick never passed the opportunity to come chat with me.

"She was with me earlier today, helping me to get a lawyer." I answered.

"She's really eager to break up with you." Patrick commented chuckling.

"We're not breaking up. We're not a thing in the first place." I said chuckling but to be honest, part of me hurts especially when I see her eager enough to void the marriage.

I mean I want it too because I don't want to get married but I'm starting to have a huge crush on her, and it hurts because she doesn't feel the same since she's fucking taken. Guess what I'm feeling right now is same as what they all say, you always want what you can't have.

Ten minutes before the program officially starts, to my great surprise Georgina showed up. Looking even more beautiful with her pony-tailed hair, she looks a legit businesswoman tonight with her tux. Quite intimidating if you don't know her personally.

"Is that Georgina?" Zach asked elbowing me, as the both of us stares on the newly arrived people.

"Yeah." I answered. "But pretend like you don't know her, otherwise she'll kill me."

As much as I want to say hi, I remained still sticking with my teammates. I well remembered all the things that she said and that is no one should know about our situation. The whole time I was just looking at her at the far end corner of the room, she's busy mingling with the A-lister people in the event. Her father is one of the biggest real estate owner in the west coast so there's no surprise that she embodies a business woman aura herself. And besides, she's an architect and the only heiress that will takeover her father's business sooner or later.

She is trained for this lifestyle.

We belong to a very different world, I am just a hockey player. What am I going to use to compete against her businessman boyfriend? A stick and puck to impress her? For sure she is not into sports-- not into me! To be straightforward.

When the event finally started, I focused myself on what is happening around rather than focus on George. The night is basically raising funds for the kids who are fighting against cancer disease, and me and the rest of our team is here to help in raising funds for them.

While I busied myself from watching a little presentation made by the kids at the stage, I suddenly felt that someone nudged me on the side. It was Georgina.

"Hey." She greeted.

"Georgina!" I said a bit surprised seeing her beside me smiling.

She giggled. "Why do you look so surprised?"

I look around making sure that nobody sees us however basing on where we are, of course, people will see us.

"Because I thought no one should know anything about us." I said whispering.

She chuckled. "It's fine. As long as we won't actually announce it. Just like what you always do!"

"Sorry." I said smirking.

"Besides, I feel kind of out of place in here. I need a friend."

"You don't look like you're out of place, based on the way I see you are enjoying it."

"Fake it until you make it, dumbass!" She answers. "Like it's as if you haven't done that."

"Fair enough."

"But seriously though, once Liam is done with his speech I'm leaving." She said.

"Who's Liam?"

"My cousin, the chief operating officer of my Dad's extension firm here in the city."

I looked at her and it was the first time I saw her feel so uncomfortable looking over the crowd in front of us.

"Why do I get the feeling that you're not used to this?" I asked.

She looked at me shaking her head. "I'm definitely not. This is part of the job that I hated."

"But this is going to be exactly your life in the future." I said.

She was silent for a bit looking on the stage as her cousin was called by the master's of ceremony to finally do a speech. I heard her sigh.

"I'm totally not looking forward to it." She finally replied and looked at me with a smile that didn't even reach her eyes. "But let us not talk about it."

After her cousin Liam delivered his quick speech, I asked her if she wants me to drive her back to her hotel. Gladly, she said yes but only after we stick for a few more minutes right before taking off. I introduced her to few of my teammates, she also mingled with Patrick and Zach who she already knew enjoying a nice conversation about hockey in which she obviously only have a limited knowledge about.

"Didn't know you're friends with the city's hockey team!" Someone said coming from our back, when all of us turned it was George's cousin Liam who delivered a speech a while ago.

"Liam, remember these guys?" Georgina beamed to her cousin. "We partied with them two years ago."

Liam looked at me and Patrick for a bit right before opening his mouth realizing that we are quite familiar.

"Oh yeah! I remembered." He said shaking our hands to formally introduce himself. "The fake wedding!"

Patrick, George and I laughed but you can literally hear the awkwardness in there.

"Nice to meet you all guys." Liam said smiling. "By the way, the fake wedding will stay between us because Miss Rodriguez out here have a very possessive boyfie."

"Shut up! Sean's pretty decent." Georgina said and by the mention of her boyfriend I am kind of a bit jealous.

"We were all drunk so let's just pretend, it didn't happen." I inserted.

"Definitely." Liam agreed. "Anyway George, you should invite them to your birthday party next week!"

I looked at her.

"It's nothing really." She replied.

"Anyway George, is it okay for you to wait until the event finishes? I'll totally feel bad if I leave early. There are few important people present that we ne--"

"No. It's okay. Austin's here to drive me home." Georgina said which made her cousin to look at me.

"Cool." He replied. "Well then be careful you two! I gotta go."

Later on, Georgina and I hit the road heading to her hotel.

"Why didn't you tell me that it's your birthday?" I asked her.

"Because my birthday is still next week." She replied. "And besides I don't have plans on celebrating it. I just need to convince my family not to do a grand celebration or whatsoever. Plus, I don't really have plans on inviting you."

"Oh come on! I am your husband after all!" I joked.

"Shut up!" She said slapping my arm.

"Do you always have a grand birthday party all the time?" I asked in complete curiosity.

"My dad does that all the time and I hate every second of it." She answers with complete frustration. "My birthday party ends up being like his own party since he invites people, like, his possible clients and investors. I wanted to celebrate my birthday with family and friends only, but I have never experienced that in such a long time."

"That's sad."

"I know right." She agreed. "If I could just have one birthday celebration away from my Dad!"

"You actually can, if you want to." I advised, but she was just silent. "Anyway, what do you want on your birthday?"

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, what is your dream birthday celebration then?"

"Well... Simple!" She started. "Just eating out or maybe go on a picnic... I don't know! Just a simple celebration will do actually."

"We can do that!"

"We?" She repeated. "As in the two of us?"

I nodded.

"Nope!"

"Oh come on! I am your friend."

"We're not friends."

"Really? Because a while ago I heard you saying that you needed a friend because you felt out of place in the event."

She laughed. "Okay! You got me there."

"So....."

She rolls her eyes smiling. "Okay! Impress me then."
