Chapter 43: Would You Like to Practice?

My heart started to pick up speed as I stood in the middle of the living room where I spent the vast majority of my childhood. The wall clock ticked as the silence stretched on. I was still facing the hallway, almost afraid to look at Professor Bennett on the couch now that we were alone together.

It was cozy in the small room, with the dark furniture and orange light coming from the small lamp on a side table illuminating the room in a soft glow. It was actually kind of romantic. It made my chest constrict.

I wanted him, and it hurt when I reminded myself that I couldn’t have him.

“Your siblings are quite charismatic,” I heard him say.

I did my best to control the tormented look on my face before I turned to face him. I had to swallow my gasp. His eyes were gorgeous in the low light, dark and warm. “Oh yeah?” I said, just a little shakily.

He nodded. “I can tell that they are related to you. They’re so inquisitive and curious for their age.”
