Chapter 2 Life in the temple

Gavin was tired he had knowledge of this world, but expirence trumps all. He was learning a variety of subjects ranging from history to Language, Culture to Navigation it was a well-rounded education that prepared the recipient for a variety of career choices. Gavin was by no means the most talented member of his group. it confused him at first until he realized that his template would probably kick in the same time as the rest of God's gifts.

Gavin made it clear that he wanted to journey, to bring peace, and justice. Unfortunately, his current talent was too low. Master Yoda himself had brought Gavin aside.

"Shameful, it is not to seek a path of lesser glory." The old master said kindly. "If to bring peace is what you wish, perhaps a career in the diplomatic Corps. If the unknown you seek, then the Survey Corps may your calling be."

Gavin understood what Master Yoda was trying to say after all his talent, while decent was barely enough to even have a Jedi look at him as a padawan. It was far more likely that he would be placed into one of the jedi affiliate agencies and not trained to be a Jedi Knight. Master Yoda was trying to soften the blow for him so he would not be crushed if he wasn't picked.

Gavin then surprised the Jedi Grandmaster with his response. "Only the force knows the future. I may yet achieve the path of the Jedi Knight." It almost seemed like youthful boasting, but something about it seemed to ring true. Yoda vowed to himself to keep a closer eye on the young one. He even considered taking the boy on himself a thought he had not entertained since Dooku.

Master Yaddle watched in amusement as her old friend seemed to remember a lesson they had both learned long ago. Marvelous was the mind of a child.

Gavin, in the meantime, was wandering the halls to the archives. He was devouring the knowledge there as quickly as he could, knowing just how vast the galaxy was and not knowing when an obscure tidbit of knowledge would be nessicary. Gavin did not give himself much free time and seemed to be distant from the rest of the younglings. He was not unfriendly by any means, but it seemed he would rather study than socialize.

On the topic of swordsmanship, he learned Form I through Form IV but focused primarily on Form III Soresu. Gavin took to this form like a fish to water. He could even be considered a prodigy. He adapted and modified it to a form he named Rivers Flow. In its early state, he took inspiration from the way a river flowed bending and moving fluid and without form. It took the defensive and minimalistic movements that allowed Soresu to create such a strong defense and added dodging. Much like a river, he flowed around obstacles in the battle, deflecting what he could not block and dodging what he could not deflect. The battlemaster took note and was impressed.

One thing he fell behind in was the usage of force powers. He seemed to struggle to lift even a pebble, blindfolded he couldn't deflect blasterbolts he struggled with every aspect of force powers. This caused Master Yoda to shake his head. The boy was hardworking and seemed to embody what the jedi order believed, but without the force, the life of a Jedi Knight would be too dangerous.

Yoda still hoped that Gavin would improve, but time was running out, and if he did not improve by the time he came of age, then he would be assigned to Agricultural, Diplomatic, or Survey Corps. If he did not choose to leave, that was. Yoda had watched Gavin for a while. How could the 600 year old master not have an idea of what ran through Gavin's head. Gavin followed his own path and had strong opinions. He asked questions that were difficult for even Yoda to awnser.

"Master Yoda, why do the Jedi do the Senate's bidding?" Gavin had asked one day.

"We are the Gaurdians of peace and justice to uphold this we help where the senate asks." Mace Windu had answered overhearing the question.

"So we are a branch of government?" He then asked.

"No, young one, we are not." Yoda answered him.

"Then why do we not seek to free the slaves in Hutt Space? Why do we not go to the outer rim and help the colonies and planets who suffer?" Gavin then asked.

"Jedi are not rulers. We only interfere if asked, and even then, we are stretched thin." Windu awnsered.

Gavinn continued to ask these questions that, while alone seemed to be insignificant when thought about properly, seemed to incite deep thoughts to these masters so much older than him.

So it was that 3 years passed, and Gavin turned 7. He had learned that Qui Gon Ginn and Obi Wan Kenobi had left to negotiate an end to the blockade of Naboo by the Trade Federation. The morning he learned this, he was pulled into a strange place with door after door. He felt a rush of power and felt the force like never before. The time had come for him to learn.

"Have you chosen?"Said a voice that Gavin remembered vividly.
