Chapter 157

Demiurge, too, reacted swiftly to the situation. With grace, he soared through the sky, closing the distance between himself and Carnes.

Now, he stood face to face with Carnes.

"Captain, I failed to take down that traitor Nagato."

Demiurge admitted, a hint of remorse in his voice.

"I am prepared to accept any punishment you deem fit."

Carnes, however, wore a calm expression and dismissed the matter with a wave of his hand.

"There's no need to worry about these little things," he replied calmly.

"And Furthermore, when you encounter Nagato in future, you don't need to label him as a traitor.

You will understand the reasoning behind this in due time."

Carnes appeared unperturbed, while Demiurge's expression softened into one of respect.

Demiurge's face reflected his admiration for Carnes.

But, inside his mind, a flurry of thoughts raced.

'The captain is truly magnanimous; he even spared me from punishment," Demiurge mused silently.

'But why does he show such leniency towards that traitor Nagato?

Could it be that this is part of a grander plan, a demonstration of exceptional intellect? The captain's ambitions must be truly monumental.'

'Yes our Captain is truly a visionary; he must harbor grand aspirations!

When I return, I shall train the crew diligently, working tirelessly to aid the Captain in realizing his dreams.'

Determined to contribute to Carnes' aspirations, Demiurge resolved,

"Captain, I have glimpsed some of your ambitions, and today, I pledge to give my utmost to see them realized."

Carnes, taken aback by this unexpected revelation, couldn't help but wonder,

'How much does Demiurge really know? What is he planning? I explicitly warned him not to meddle further.'

Their thoughts diverged sharply, leaving Carnes to question, 'Do our minds truly align, or are we operating on entirely different wavelengths?'

Carnes felt an agonizing headache pierce through his temples, and it was starting to wear him down.

Demiurge, despite his unwavering loyalty and reliability, had a mind that sometimes thought too much.

"Forget it, do as you please," Carnes finally sighed in exasperation.

He was truly fatigued, both physically and mentally.

Demiurge, on the other hand, saw this as a small victory. He couldn't help but gloat inwardly.

'Sure enough, the captain has heard and approved my actions!

It seems that I am the most caring and devoted subordinate to the captain!'

His smile stretched wider across his face, as he reveled in the Carnes' approval.

Carnes, observing this situation, could only turn a blind eye.

He knew that if he uttered a few more words, Demiurge's overactive brain would start churning again, and who knew what ideas it might cook up next!

Just then, Kakashi approached, with Chōji lending a helping hand.

"Carnes-san," Kakashi greeted, as he addressed Carnes, acknowledging Demiurge as well.

"Thank you both very much for your assistance. I also want to apologize for my rude behavior. I'm truly sorry."

Kakashi offered his sincere apology.

Demiurge, still caught up in his brainstorming session, paid no heed to Kakashi's words.

He was indifferent to the apology.

To him, Kakashi's gratitude held little significance; all he cared about was Carnes' stance.

Kakashi, in turn, wasn't particularly concerned about Demiurge's attitude.

But he didn't dare to show any sign of annoyance or disagreement.

In truth, even if he had cared, he would have hesitated to show it.

As Demiurge had left such an everlasting impression on him, that impact was far from trivial.
