Chapter 4

"That won't be necessary officer as this is now a case to be dealt with by the Avengers under the jurisdiction of SHIELD" said Captain America as he glanced at Natasha Romanoff 'Black Widow' who produced her SHIELD ID and gave it to the officer in charge. The officer, after observing the ID and recognizing the two famous superheroes, easily accepted the command.

"Very well" he replied before turning around and commanding the gathered police officers to return back to the station. After all the police officers left, the two superheroes turned towards Adam. Both of them stepped forward to greet him.

"Hello. My name is Captain America" said Captain America with a bright sunny smile as he stretched out his hand

"Natasha Romanoff" said Black Widow also stretching her hand while wearing a beautiful smile.

"Adam Riley. But I'm sure you already knew that." said Adam with a calm smile as he shook both of their hands. The two Avengers revealed a look of surprise on their face.

"How are you so sure?" asked Natasha to which Adam replied with a smile.

"Well you are a super spy working for SHIELD are you not?" said Adam much to the shock of the two.

"How?...."

"Wanda told me everything…." said Adam which finally clarified how he knew these things which were hidden from the common public. "…..Comes with the perk of dating the famous Scarlet Witch of the Avengers I guess." Natasha and Steve were sure that they could hear some sarcasm in Adam's voice but they chose to ignore it.

"Anyway is there anything I can do for the two of you?"

"Yes, could you explain to us what exactly happened between Wanda and you for the restaurant to deteriorate to such an extent?" questioned Steve Rogers formally known as Captain America.

"It's quite simple Captain America. I broke up with Wanda and she lost control of her powers resulting in this" said Adam as he pointed towards the rapidly deteriorating restaurant. Captain America nodded as he now understood what was going on. Most Super Powers tend to activate on their own without any command if the user undergoes an emotional upheaval and a break-up was one of the top things that could cause a rapid fluctuation of emotions especially in women. The fact that the restaurant was still standing and that Adam hadn't been torn apart was actually quite commendable.

"May I ask why it is you broke up with Wanda? " asked Natasha fluttering her beautiful eyelashes in a subtle manipulation. This however had no effect on Adam.

"You may not. What goes on between Wanda and I is our personal business and hence none of your concern" replied Adam shocking Natasha. It was very rare for a man to resist her charm and not do as she asks so seeing Adam, a regular human, refuse her demands was a quite shocking. Still, she managed to regain her composure quickly within a single second proceeding to display a lovely smile concealing her emotions. As expected of one of the greatest spies in the world.

"You are right Mr Adam. In any case thank you for all of your assistance in this matter. You may go now." Said Black Widow to which Adam nodded and left. With this he was now free from any entanglement with any super hero which was good. Now one might be wondering how a normal human could remain so calm when facing such powerful beings like the Scarlet Witch and the Avengers. Well, it was because he wasn't actually a normal human being but rather a reincarnated person from another Earth where humans were just normal beings. There he had experienced the cruelty of humanity and had been killed by corrupt policemen after he had been an unlucky witness to one of their acts. Upon death, he had awoken to find himself a four-year-old child in an orphanage in New York.

He had spent the last 15 years in New York attending all the forms of education until he finally graduated high school and got a job as a Librarian for the New York Library. In one of the books stores he regularly visited he had met Wanda and even though he hadn't recognized her at the time. It was only after she had told him of her powers one night that he finally recognized her as Wanda, the famous future Scarlet Witch. Of course he was only surprised but not too shocked as he had grown up in New York where he had witnessed many crazy things like Iron Man, The Chitauri invasion etc. Even now he could remember how close he was to losing his life in the Chitauri invasion but lucky he lived on the edges of New York and commuted to work every day so he wasn't greatly affected by the invasion like those living at the centre near Stark's building where the main events occurred.

Still even after finding out that Wanda was a villain, he hadn't cared as he knew the plot of the mcu for a fair bit hence he knew that Wanda's extracurricular activities wouldn't affect him as her work life was entirely separate from their life as lovers. This was good as he preferred stability above all else and also being left alone given the fact that even in this world he was an ordinary human being and hence completely powerless to otherworldly forces or mutants who also existed among us among god knows what else.

Besides Ultron was far too concerned with killing Stark to care about an insect like himself so he was all good so far. Plus he appreciated Wanda's honesty so he decided to continue playing with her while at the same time hardening his heart towards her just in case she decided to become a hero as like he had explained earlier. Heroes were definitely not his thing. Well now that she had become one it was best for him to break things off with her as a means of self-preservation. Thankfully he had only opened a piece of his heart to Wanda so breaking things off with her was a bit painful but only so. And now that that was over, he could go on with his life.
