Chapter 2 Home

A week passed and I'm allowed to go home. I still can't remember a thing. My legs are still weak but I can stand and take steps.

Bettany is helping me to remember. She showed me pictures and videos but it all seem strange. I'm 25 years old and she's 4 years older than me. She works at our father's real estate company and I'm jobless.

My parents are excited about me coming home. Bettany and my father picked me from the hospital while my mom is left at home to prepare a simple celebration for my arrival.

It is a 30 minutes ride home. It's 5 in the afternoon when we reached our destination. We arrive in front of a huge gate that opens on its own. Upon entering, you can see a long concrete pavement with tall trees on its sides. The lawn is wide and covered with green grass. The car stopped in front of a modern three-story home.

Since my legs are still weak, the driver lift me and put me in a wheelchair. My dad and the driver pushed me up to the front porches.

I'm amazed when I get to see the inside of the house. There is a bright chandelier in the ceiling. The glass windows are big and the stairs are wide. Everything looks expensive, clean, and organized.

My mother welcomed me with a bright smile. The two housemaids are behind her.

"Welcome home sweetie!" She greeted me.

She hugged me and kissed me on the cheek.

"How's your ride?"

"It's fine. Do we live here?" I asked.

"Yes. We live in this house for years. Why? Something wrong?" She asked.

They all looked at me concerned.

"So are we like rich?" I asked.

They looked at each other, confused.

"Georgina, we are rich. We even partly owned the hospital you were admitted to." Bettany answered.

"Oh."

"Are you hungry? I prepared dinner of all your favorite food." Mother asked.

"Aurelia, she is still on a diet. She can't eat so much." Father answered.

"It's okay. I'd like to try them. Just a little though."

After dinner, my parents showed me to my room. It's huge. It has a half-moon bed with loads of pillows. In front of my bed is a sliding door leading to the balcony. There is also a couch and a small table inside my room. I also have a walk-in closet with elegant clothes, expensive bags, and shoes.

"I never change anything. Since you went missing-"

"Aurelia!" Dad stopped her.

I look at them.

"What is it?" I asked.

"I mean since you were hospitalized, I keep coming into your room. I cleaned it myself. You hate other people touching your stuff." Mom answered.

"I do?"

"Yes, you hate it when the maids rearranged your stuff. You fired a maid before for taking pictures of your bags and trying your shoes. And you even got into a fight with Bettany because she borrowed your shoes." Mom continued and smiled at the memory.

"You were so mad you took her shoes and throw them into the pool. " Dad laughed as he added the details of the altercation.

"That's awful," I said.

They stop laughing when they realized that the story is about me being a mean brat.

"Maybe we should let you rest now. It's been a long day. And you have an appointment with the physical therapist tomorrow morning." Dad said changing the topic.

"Yes, I'll call the caregiver to assist you, honey. Just call me if you need anything." Mom added.

After I cleaned up, I went straight to bed. It's very soft and smells so good but this bed didn't feel familiar. It's like laying her for the very first time.

I have a big framed picture of me on the wall of my room. I wore a black dress and jewelry. It's my face but it seems different. I looked sophisticated and intimidating.

I closed my eyes and fell asleep.

The dark figures, they were all standing tall. They were laughing. They walked slowly towards me. I can't move. I saw my hands and feet tied. Their hands extended towards me.

"No!"

I gasp for air as I open my eyes.

A bad dream.. but it felt real.
