Chapter 49: Starting Over

“Gen?” A knock followed my name and a young female came into my office. She paused in the doorway, rocking back on her heels and looking down at her feet.

“What is it, Lena?” I asked. I motioned for her to come in all the way.

She hesitated and then came all the way into my office. Moving to a new city across the ocean had been a big step but as soon as I’d given the pack my mother and father’s names, I’d been accepted immediately. It was like they’d been waiting for me for years.

Now, I had my own office in the pack hotel. I worked mostly as a tracker for the pack but it felt so much more comfortable than my old life.

“My parents just sent me by because they wanted to know if you found…” she trailed off. “Well, they wanted an update.” She scrunched up her face, eyes shifting back and forth awkwardly.
