On the radio, they announced that the new government would be ratified at the start of next week. The Democratic Union of Aviye, which Xu and countless others had fought for, would finally come into its own after three decades of monarchy and almost two centuries of discordant humiliation.
Xu listened until the news cycled back on itself, drowsing as the announcer described that the inaugural council would be held at Mt. Dakun. She was vaguely thinking that it was genius not to associate the new government with any old city - and especially not Escator - when she finally relaxed enough to fall asleep.
The phone rang.
Xu immediately hopped off of the bed and walked quickly to it, grabbing it before the third ringing.
